- too sweet is about seizing the day and ignoring healthy habits in favor of having more fun with unhealthy ones. he’s actively critical of himself in the song. it’s now called a song about thinking you’re superior for drinking black coffee.

- take me to church is about worship as a metaphor for sex. it’s called a religious song.

- eat your young is a song about war and political greed. it’s called a song about sex.

- now, the strongly political message of nobody’s soldier is being ignored in favor of calling it a metaphor for hozier’s relationship with his fans.

when are we going to stop simplifying hozier’s music down to cute little cottagecore bogman forest music? maybe you dont want to hear this but i don’t care. quit listening to hozier for the aesthetic. there’s a reason why empire now, foreigner’s god, butchered tongue, etc. songs with unignorable political messages are among his least popular songs.

In a time of political or societal turmoil, songs like Be or Nina Cried Power (and now Nobody's Soldier) comfort me because it gives a voice to the ever growing anger and exasperation which I feel and have felt since I first understood that my voice matters less than most.

So it really baffled me when a song such as Eat Your Young got reduced to nothing but

"I'm starving, darling

Let me put my lips to something

Let me wrap my teeth around the world"

While I agree that just like it's various mediums, art can have varying interpretations, I will not stand for the blatant ignorance and denial of the poignant message which each of these songs try to convey.

On an unrelated note, Sedated is the older sibling of Eat Your Young.

saw someone on the clockapp say that the the "i dont wanna choose between being a salesman or a soldier" is about Hozier's personal struggle with fame.

And I see that but I need people to start listening to his political messages. Listen to Nina Cried Power or Jackboot Jump just once. Please. I'm begging you. He's not your "woodland fae" but an extremely (politically) vocal person.
