Discovery’s Final Flight

The space shuttle Discovery flew over Washington D.C. this morning, perched atop a 747 transport plane. This was the shuttle’s final flight, as it is being delivered to its final resting place at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum.

D.C. residents got quite the air show today, as shown by these photos.

If you’re jealous and you happen to live in NYC, keep your eyes open next week as the Enterprise, a never-flown shuttle prototype, makes its way to the west side of Manhattan to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. It will be visible on a barge in the Hudson River and will be lifted via crane onto the aircraft carrier deck.

West coast residents will have a chance later this year when Endeavour is flown out to Los Angeles for her final resting place.

Apple blew past expectations by reporting on Tuesday it earned $11.6 billion in its second fiscal quarter on revenue of $39.2 billion. 

On a per-share basis, Apple earned $12.30, up from $6.40 a year earlier and much better than the $10.02 that analysts had predicted.

Record Store Day produced explosive sales gains at indie stores, that helped the U.S. industry slightly outpace the prior week's album sales.  For the week ending April 22, indie stores posted a whopping 26.6% gain in album sales to 528,000 units from 417,000 for the prior week ending April 15, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That gain of 111,000 units was responsible for almost all of the U.S. industry's overall gain of 113,000 units over the prior week with album sales growing to 5.72 million from 5.61 million units.
