Pretty much all of the TVC characters have probably felt like they were “breaking free” of someone at some point in this series. These bitches be coming and going like nobody’s business.
Let’s focus on Louis leaving Armand to go back to Lestat. For as much as Louis felt confined by Lestat in their relationship, I have to imagine that his relationship with Armand felt tenfold more controlling and wing-clipping, in the grand scheme of things.

(I couldn’t find a better quote for this, but: LESTAT WENT BACK TO THE PLACE THEY SHARED IN NEW ORLEANS!!! Waiting up for Louis, mayhaps? Daniel is mentioned in the excerpt bc this snippet is from his POV. It’s taken from QotD when Daniel went looking for Lestat.)

8.) Florida!!!
I mean, Armand’s private resort in Miami? I’m not the only one getting Night Island vibes, right?
This song is a metaphor about Florida being an escape, a solace, a drug. That’s exactly how I imagine Armand and the other vampires feel about the Night Island.

I think this song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of bidding adieu to someone, and someplace, you once loved. Sometimes the location where you fell in love, even more so than the person whom you fell in love with, can dredge up memories you’d rather forget.
Louis leaves New Orleans after his time with Lestat, losing a city he loves and a man he loves.

“Just how low did you think I’d go ‘fore I’d self-implode? ‘Fore I’d have to go be free”
“And I'm just getting color back into my face, I'm just mad as hell cause I loved this place”
6.) But Daddy I Love Him
Another song that could be interpreted in multiple ways. I could see myself screaming “But Daddy I Love Him” about Armand, Lestat, Marius, hell, even fucking Daniel. It seems Anne Rice has a penchant for writing morally gray characters that my father would not want me to bring home.
But I think I’m going to go ahead and assign this one to our resident protagonist, Louis Du Pointe Du Lac.
Louis, especially in the AMC tv show, is the character who has to face the most judgment and prejudice. He’s constantly having to deal with uppity racists and homophobes, and I think he deserves this song just so he can tell them all to FUCK OFF! LET HIM LIVE DAMMIT!

9.) Guilty As Sin?
My headcanon for the tv show is that the Devil’s Minion chapter has already happened by the time Daniel goes to Dubai to meet with Louis and Armand again.
This song tells the story of someone fantasizing about their crush, envisioning a life with them, dreaming about touching them - dreams so vivid that the narrator starts to question their sanity and morality because the make-believe is starting to feel real to them.
Let me set the scene: Older Daniel sees Rashid for the first time, and his heart starts racing. That’s odd. He starts thinking about the young man, obsessively. At first, he tells himself it’s because Rashid is a piece of Louis’ puzzle that doesn’t quite fit. But truthfully, he’s entranced by the man with big brown eyes and dark curls. Then, Daniel starts to dream of him. Is he losing his mind?
Maybe.
Or maybe… Daniel and Armand have spent more time together than Daniel can remember? Memory, you sly devil, you.
