How am I supposed to survive my current obsession with Cillian Murphy when I feel the hyperfixation that's been plaguing my brain since 2019 returning...
My pinterest now looks like a mashup of Cillian’s photos and Demon Slayer pictures.
I LOVE Kimetsu no Yaiba. This anime feels like home for me. But also it gives me emotions so intense that I can quit existing.
I'm not reblogging the (multiple) posts that inspired this because it's not about winning a fight. I just have to get it off my chest.
When you say that Tommy is incapable of finding peace, he's too exhausted to go on, there's no rest for him in this life, there will always be a worse enemy and a bigger fight, you're echoing his beliefs about himself. Beliefs based on his traumatic experiences, which he perpetuates in his life in ever-widening circles with ever-worsening consequences. Beliefs that are entirely normal and incredibly common for people with trauma.
The thing is, HE'S WRONG. He's not cursed. He's having a trauma response. The only way he's beyond finding peace in this world is if he stays stuck in the mindset that he's too damaged to even try anymore.
The show presents him as a man who will always be at war and never at peace because that's what he believes, and you see the consequences of that belief wreak havoc on countless people. That was the whole point of the eleventh hour, the armistice. "The war is over" isn't just about the war. It's about Tommy's life. For the first time he departs from that trauma-induced doom narrative and says, "Okay. Maybe I don't have to kill the guy who tried to kill me. Maybe I don't have to be a soldier. Maybe it's okay to just walk away from this one." And it was also the point of Ruby coming to him in the vision and saying You must live. Because for Tommy, death is the easy way out. He's wanted to die for years.
It's very fucking easy to say "I'm too broken, I'm cursed, I'm beyond help, I will never find rest or safety, I give up." It's the natural thing to think and feel. It's so, so much harder to choose life, where you have to face the weight of your grief and the horror of your past and the responsibility for how your actions have harmed others. Keeping Tommy alive is not a fairy-tale ending. It's not unrealistic. He's not ever going to be 100% happy and regret-free and not miss the people he's lost, but he could, potentially, let go of his sense of doom and threat, needing to fight to survive, feeling responsible for things that were out of his control, and wanting to die. He could, potentially, live a life where he doesn't hear gunshots in the night, isn't too dead inside to eat breakfast and enjoy the taste of his coffee, isn't so obsessed with gaining the power to protect himself that he can never enjoy the life he's protecting, isn't sleeping with fascists or looking for an assassin around every corner, and can start repairing his relationships with his still-living family.
I'm not saying that makes for a better, more exciting story, or that it's what will happen. But I think Tommy is clearly at a crossroads where he has a choice to make: continue living as he's been living (I should be dead) or make a change (I can live, and it's okay for me to live). To say that death is the only ending that makes sense for him because he's too tired, too wounded, or too wicked is missing the point of where his entire journey over 6 seasons was leading.
Demon Slayer x Studio Ghibli
My favorite thing Alfie does is creatively wedging "fucking" in between prefixes and root words
Non-fucking-negotiable
Un-fucking-justified
Etc.
The way he uses, abuses, and ornaments the English language is un-fucking-parallelled. He is a law unto himself, and that includes laws of grammar and common usage
Please REBLOG this if you’re still in the Peaky Blinders fandom, I wanna write but also feel like there might not be any interest in it anymore
