Maybe it’s the issue of english speaking countries ‘cus english is international so why learn sth else… But it’s stupid anyway, learning languages give you general educational skills…

[In my country we start learning english in second grade (~8 years old). In some schools it’s german or french but mostly english]

the issue with language learning in the US education system, at least in public schools, is you don't even start until high school, and it's not required. i didn't start learning spanish until my junior year because i wanted to take orchestra as an elective, and i couldn't take orchestra while i took spanish, which was annoying to me.

but that's really too late! idk why we don't teach kids at least one language starting in kindergarten. maybe it's better now idk.
