Jeremy Renner playing a character who was often Deaf in the comics and saying he wouldn’t have auditioned had Clint been written Deaf in the first place, leading many people to call him ableist only to casually reveal during the premiere of his show roughly 11 years after his character’s on screen debut and after 30 years in Hollywood and 2 Oscar noms later, when it’s been clarified that the show will finally address Clint as being HOH, that he (Jeremy) himself was born HOH and never talking about it since and not even going into detail about being HOH, while clarifying the difference between being HOH and being Deaf, is low key a power move and I kinda love it.

This show is the perfect example of why I love Hawkeye. Clint’s the guy to get down to business and get it done. He’s dedicated to his family, and works to keep them safe. He cares enough about people to do the dumb things like pretend to be cut down by a fake sword. He’s a real person that gets hurt, and doesn’t just walk it off. He knows how to physically take care of himself becuase he’s a breakable, fragile, human, just like the rest of us. He’s the lone pillar of normalcy on a team of super powered, high trained, enhanced individuals, and he earned that spot. Any way this is a love letter to Clint Barton- may he continue to be an inspiration for us regular folk.
