Guys, I'm tired of the fighting between the two kinds of Hozier fans, so I'm gonna break it down for both sides so we can find a common ground.
The most obvious side in this is the fact that Hozier's music is heavily inspired by blues and African American artists. Additionally, he uses his song-writing ability to spread messages about topics, often political, that he finds necessary to address. To ignore all of this is to ignore the foundation of the artist himself. However, you can still find him mystifying, as long as it's in moderation. So you can understand why people think of him this way, I'll explain:
The reason why people see him like this is because of the more popularized songs and because his style of writing lyrics is esoteric; only a select few artists besides himself write in such a poetic manner, no matter what the content of the lyrics. In addition to political allusion, he often uses biblical and nature references to tell a story or send a message. This unique way of song-writing gives people the idea that he is mystical because so few people still verbalize the feeling of love, not lust, and do so in such a poetic manner. And that is completely understandable. However, it is important to only take this superficially.
Yes, you may admire his ability to use figurative language to reference nature, but you also need to understand that he is not just that. You can find him mystical and political at the same time, but it is important to be moderate about the former as to not discredit all that he writes about.
Guys, please, let's just all stop the arguing and understand both sides.
β Kindly,
Atlas

So I made a Hozier reading list...
This is what I have so far.

For some books I'm still missing sources, and I know it's not complete or β¨οΈAestheticβ¨οΈ. But if there is anything that you think should be on there, let me know.
