I Feel Like It Means Something That FEDRAs First Act In The Show Is Smiling And Comforting A Child And

I feel like it means something that FEDRA’s first act in the show is smiling and comforting a child and lying to him while they kill him and…

…the Fireflies’ final act was acting like they were helping a child and lying to her while they were (trying to) kill her. Both killings for the greater good, but still. What a mirror.

Mutxip's Beginning: Part 5

The next night, he left early to get there before her. To give her a gift the same way she gifted him the fruit. He placed the bracelet made by Neytiri; he tried to do it himself, but it was getting to the point that Neytiri started to pity him and his lack of artisan skills. Kiri also absolutely insisted that he bring what she had made. Although it was apparent a child made it, it was the fact that she understood he was giving gifts to this mysterious girl, and she wanted to as well. In hopes she will become friends with Kiri.

Carefully he places the toy and bracelet on the ground and proceeds to do exactly what she had done before and hide in the high ground.

He sits and waits patiently for her. Ears twitching at each noise and tail flicking languidly behind him, he crouches and watches patiently. The roles have been reversed.

Finally, he hears the familiar rustles of the leaves, and his ears perk up in excitement.

The girl looks at the clearing in confusion; something is already there. She brought fruit again, but it didn’t seem as important as what was before her. Looking around her, she noticed the night air seemed a little calmer. Creatures in the trees above, sleeping peacefully, knowing the Great Mother would care for them. The bugs seemed to have left her alone, not bothering her tail or ears. Even the leaves appeared to not graze harshly against her this time. Instead, caressing her arms like a mother coaxing a child from behind her.

With this newfound courage, she ventures forward into the small clearing. She crouched and put one leg in front of the other, hands keeping her balanced as she slowly moved toward the objects. The ground lit up ever so slightly with her careful steps.

The foreign yet familiar objects gave her a sense of ease. A doll that resembled the great sky beast sat neatly on the ground. Layed next to it is a bracelet made with many stones that remind her of a more peaceful time.

As she got closer, it felt like she couldn’t take her eyes off the bracelet. A magnetic warmth pulled her in to shield her from the cold night. It reminded her of someone she doesn’t remember, only knowing she is missing something. That there is a hole in her chest that was once full. She is unsure what it was full of; she only knows it was where she felt the most comfort. Without it, she feels empty and alone from what she lost. Sure, her protector gives her comfort, but it is not the same. She isn’t sure what it would be, but she knows it is gone.

She is crouched before the items, her tail curled protectively around her, and she caresses the bracelet, almost afraid to grab it if it breaks. Oh, how she longs for what she misses. She craves for the hole in her chest to be poured with something familiar and warm.

She gently grabs the bracelet, gazing at each bead and braid with longing.

At that moment, everything was still. The jungle, the sky, the wind, even his heart when he hears her soft sobs. The child was clinging onto the bracelet and the necklace that had sat on her neck since they met, which seemed to fit an adult much better.  Silently he watched as she cried, seemingly unaware of her tears as she kept petting the bracelet and rubbing it against her cheek.

She then turns to caress the toy, using one hand to keep the bracelet against her cheek while the other inspects the small sky beast. She is confused as to why there is a wooden figure resembling the sky beast. What use is there for one – oh.

Using the same movement she used while picking it up, the wings flexed as if the toy were alive. Again, she moves the toy up and down but with less hesitancy. She doesn’t understand why but finds great joy in watching the wings move.

She giggles, and Jake swears he has never heard a more pure, innocent sound. He sits there, stunned and a little emotional. Seeing her go from crying to laughing, jostling the toy around. Essentially playing. He didn't think it would be possible so soon, but it is obvious from this display that she didn't spend her whole life in the jungle. She had a home somewhere; where she made emotional connections. It makes him unbearably sad for the girl.

Without thinking, he jumps down from the tree, and the child silences herself, immediately grabbing her knife and crouching over the items. She growls at the unknown predator, eyes wide and pupils into a pinpoint. Her ears are pinned back, and her tail whips wildly behind her. She tries to locate the predator, trying to seem intimidating, silently hoping it would disappear.

Jake takes his chances at seeing this display from behind the foliage. Slowly he steps forward, moving with his hands raised. Once she sees him, he watches as her entire body relaxes. Her ears perk up, pupils grow wide, and she tilts her head to the side. They both stay there for a moment, just watching each other. Jake doesn't dare take another step forward for fear of her running away. Instead, he slowly sits down crisscrossed and places his hands in his lap while waiting for her decision.

Hi everyone, I apologize for not uploading anything. I am still writing the story but here is another part!!<3

_______

Part 4

Finally, she hears the careful footsteps approaching. (purposefully loud footsteps mind you) From where she is perched, she watches with big glowing eyes; pupils dilated with eagerness as she awaits his reaction.

She watches as he makes his careful steps into the clearing. He swings his head around, trying to pinpoint where she is this time, but the girl has learned. Ever since being spotted the first time, she had practiced on any unsuspecting animal to practice, and even her mother; although she overexaggerates her reactions. She slows her breaths, making sure if she moves, it is slow and aware of where they are being placed on the rough bark.

The man suddenly stops when he sees the pile of fruit; curious at his reaction, her head tips and tail curls. Strange, usually, if it were any other animal, they would immediately start sniffing the food before taking it. Does he not know how to eat? Perhaps he is slow, like the Hexapede she encountered once. Her mother showed her that animals like that Hexapede don’t last long in the jungle because they are much easier to catch than regular animals.

That worries her; she is not ready for him to be gone. Since having to leave her home, she has not seen a single being that looks like her. She doesn’t want him to leave. He can’t.

Jake is confused at the pile of fruit. If he isn’t mistaken, this type of fruit is a delicacy to eat because it is hard to find. He is unsure of why it is sitting there, although, he has a good idea of who brought it. It sat neatly on top of a large leaf, and the red/purple gleam of the fruit was very inviting to him. But he is torn. Why would the child bring the food to him? But before he could ponder any longer, his ears twitched at the soft voice above him.

While Jake pondered, the girl grew more and more impatient. He was taking too long. Perhaps he really was dumb. Unable to eat without instruction.

“Eat.”

Jake’s head whips up at the voice, being pierced with wide, gleaming eyes full of curiosity. The child was barely visible in the night, the glowing moss highlighting her tiny body. Her tail flicked back and forth, and her ears twitched at each noise from the deep jungle. But what remained still were her wide, unblinking eyes with pinpoint pupils.

It was apparent who was the predator and the prey in this scenario.

Head tilting in confusion, she points her chin down at the fruit.

“Eat.”

Jake looks down at the pile of fruit before looking back up, only to be met with an empty space instead of a little girl. She must’ve brought the fruit for him, but why? You had nothing to gain by essentially feeding him. She reminded him of the feral cats back on earth that were abandoned by ungrateful humans, born there, or lost on the streets, and how the feral mother cats would bring food for their young. It was almost as if that was how you viewed him—something to feed.

Jake smiles to himself and starts to gather the fruit, the boys would be excited, and Neytiri would be ecstatic to receive a gift from the young girl. Granted, the fruit is meant for Jake, but the child would, in turn, feed her family and give them something to celebrate.

As Jake eats with his family, he watches his boys make a mess of themselves and Neytiri chastises them to be careful. In the flickering of flames, Neytiri showed her children how to eat the fruit. How to peel it and carefully cut each piece along to already grown with the fruit. How to pluck each seed from each fruit and to put them aside to be dried in the sun the next day. Now that the meat was pulled away from the seeds, the children were quick to waddle to their circle, Lo’ak having taken the space next to his father and babbling nonsense to him. Jake felt warm, watching his budding family go through their routine. But as he watched them, he felt as if there was something missing. Strange, everything is as it usually is, but now it just seems off. It is not very strong but still noticeable. Like dirt on your body, you know it’s there but it's almost unnoticeable.

Part 3

Hi! I am so glad so many have read this. This story is really just meant to get my ideas onto a surface. Hope you like this next part, and feel free to interact with me if you want. It would be fun lol<3

————

She didn’t know what to make of the man across from her. He looked like her, but nothing like her mother. His tail flicked with an air of ease like he wasn’t being stalked by predators, confident it seemed. Or maybe he is too confident in his skills that he doesn’t think he needs to be careful?

His hands suddenly stop their movements, making her stop breathing and crouch lower. She watches as his ears tip reflexively to the side in her general direction.

Being so young she cannot tell that she is still making noise, alerting Jake to her presence.

She waits for him to do something;  to let out a warning growl, perhaps a hiss, and to start prowling toward her. The rock she sharpened during the day while laying against her mother, digging into her hand from her unyielding grip. She does not have claws like her mother, or as large of teeth as her, but by golly was her will unlike any other.

Ever since the night she encountered the man, she has been fascinated. Who is he? Why does he only have a rock? (Logic isn’t one she is familiar with) Is he alone? Is he hungry? That has to be it, there is only one reason he keeps coming back to her favorite play spot. But there is something about him that allows her to feel calm, to feel at ease. Allows her chest to feel warm again, to feel almost whole as it once was during a time she can’t quite remember. He reminds her of someone but she is unsure who it is. Reminds her of a time when there was warmth all the time no matter what. All she understands is that the necklace around her neck gives her the same calm as the man in front of her. Next time, she will bring food. Yes, that will allow him to feel at ease around her too! The same way her protector was when she found her.

To Jake’s dismay, he listens to her scurry away into the night. Tonight is not the night it seems.
