Day 3: Bisexual Flag
day 3: Bisexual flag
the bi flag we all use today is this one:

it was created in 1998 by Michael Page. he noticed that majority of bi people didn't feel a connection to the rainbow flag, and created it as a way to spread awareness for bisexual people even within the LGBTQ+ community!
The first bi pride flag was unveiled at the BiCafe's first-anniversary party on December 5, 1998.
Michael Page also created this flag to be completely free of patents, trademarks, and service marks. He wanted it to be free for the public, and not for commercial use. However, just in 2020, BiNet USA tried to take sole ownership of the flag; claiming that organizations and individuals who wanted to use the flag for commercial purposes would need to get a license from them, despite having nothing to do with the flag's design or creation. They eventually settled with a different design.
"On April 29, 2020, BiNetUSA made a tweet claiming the Wikipedia page for the bisexual pride flag was inaccurate, in an attempt to defend their unbased claims. BiNetUSA ultimately ceased to use the flag on May 8th, opting instead to use a different design." - Wikipedia
The origin of the flag came from the bi triangles (biangles): the original symbol for bisexuality.

these were originally created for the Boston Bi Woman's Community by Liz Nania. the pink triangle (used for gay men in WWII when they were sent to concentration camps) was the origin, and a blue triangle was added overlapping with it.
contrary to popular belief, the pink does not stand for girls, and the blue does not stand for boys.
Michael Page is quoted:
"The pink color represents sexual attraction to the same sex only (gay and lesbian). The blue represents sexual attraction to the opposite sex only (straight) and the resultant overlap color purple represents sexual attraction to both sexes (bi)."
"The key to understanding the symbolism of the Bisexual pride flag is to know that the purple pixels of color blend unnoticeably into both the pink and blue, just as in the 'real world,' where bi people blend unnoticeably into both the gay/lesbian and straight communities."
however, many bisexuals found issue with the triangles. they felt dehumanizing, and many were not comfortable with reclaiming the hate symbol. others used the same color scheme, but with two crescent moons facing away from each other:

but after the bisexual pride flag was popularized, these moons and the triangles became less well known. the colour combination never changed.
"The bisexual double moon symbol was created in 1998 by Vivian Wagner specifically as an alternative to the bi angles symbol..."
throughout LGBTQ+ history, bisexuals have regularly been put down by their own community. it's refreshing to see bisexuality be normalized 💗💜💙
happy pride!

I DID THE THING
After a few days I have finally caved and decided to make a John Seed screenshot related blog. I have over 200+ screenshots and I feel bad that I don’t really have anywhere to dump them (without FLOODING this blog).
The blog is heavily inspired by @josephtheseed. They haven’t posted in over a year so I hope I can carry on the tradition, if they decide to return one day. It isn’t a roleplay account but please feel free to ask questions or make request. I will always try to respond as John or if you need something out of character, you can always message me here or there.
I’M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THIS SO PLEASE, REBLOG IF YOU CAN. I hope you all enjoy! And yes, there will be more than just John screenshots posted at times. You can also make requests!
Here it is:
