rb to give the previous person a fucking break because life aint life-ing the way its supposed to life and it fucking sucks.

part of what I love about both mdzs and tgcf is that you can actually see how the protagonists and love interests fall in love with each other and that they like spending time together and have traits that are attractive to each other so it makes total sense when they Realize their feelings and have plots around their relationship

a big beef I have with other books and movies etc is when the romance drives the storyline and it's very Dramatique like "oh my god I have to save my lady love why is the universe keeping us apart" when textually it's like...do you guys even hang out? what specific things do you like about each other? like yeah ok you're In Love but do you *like* each other?

but with both wangxian and hualian there are so many little moments where you can see like oh they like each other because they share values that often go unrewarded in their society, or they share a sense of humor, or they see through each others facades, or they have some "opposites attract" traits, or one of them defends the other when no one else does, etc

and it just feels more real and the stakes of them being apart are more devastating when you actually see what being together means to them and why having that taken away would hurt
