haha, oh man this came at the exact time i stalled on my Destiny fic (and brought another load of asks that Tumblr apparently tried to eat, so...lol). i'd be happy to!

you're in for such a treat, so welcome to the cult! Sleep Token are an excellent band with a lot - A LOT - of talent contained within every facet of what they do, and thousands of extremely passionate fans.

the confirmed lore that we have so far is basically nothing!! we know that Sleep came to Vessel in a dream and promised him riches and glory if he spread the word about Him. each song is therefore a token of worship in the name of Sleep. these songs all focus on how Sleep manifests within us all - in emotions both good and bad, in our hopes and dreams, and so forth. it's meant to be cathartic to listen to.

this is why Vessel says who he is, and who the rest of the band are, aren't important. the music is the only thing that matters.

this means that song meanings and such are deliberately left ambiguous. someone i believe once did find Vessel and another member of the band and asked them what one song meant, and Vessel was apparently about to answer before the other one butted in and said 'what do you think it means?'. everything is totally up to your own interpretation and what is most meaningful to you.

my view on it is that the songs all tell one extended story together of the syper messy, toxic, and dysfunctional relationship that Sleep and Vessel have. you can order every song into a chronology imo. this work is broadly considered an entry point into the lore because it helps makes sense of everything. THAT SAID, Vessel has nodded to me specifically during Like That for the line 'there is a new intention', which I've taken to mean He Knows what i talk about, and it probably isn't correct. but it's not his place to say. or maybe it is. maybe one day i'll get my confirmation. I'd do TERRIBLE things to be able to pick his brain and talk about what he's constructing.

others disagree with me, and that's totally fine! because there's a lot of ways you can interpret the music, and dear god we still don't know the lyrics to some songs because they're never released (aside from Atlantic and a pointed correction on the lyrics in Hypnosis last year, lmfao). Vessel could sing whatever the fuck and we'd all go yesss king slay. but again, the differences in belief and lore make it fun. Sleep is whatever and whoever we want it to be. our worship takes its own forms.

all the songs are undoubtedly about a SUPER FUCKED UP relationship (or perhaps relationships) and Vessel coming to terms with the fact he was a truly awful person to whoever this 'she' is that's constantly mentioned in the songs. Spinefarm did actually release some summaries of song meanings in Sundowning, but even that's debatable as to how true they are or where they came from. they have made some very odd choices with this band and haven't always followed Vessel's wishes in the past

I've never been so angry in my life.

I have tried and fucking tried to get help for my eating disorder. My therapist is clueless. I called the crisis line and explained what was going on. I told the guy it has gotten to where my teeth are weakening and my hair is thinning and falling out and he just scoffed at me and goes "that's rough"

When talking to a nutrition specialist I was told if I lose more weight I'll just "look like a crack head, what's so desirable about looking like olive oil from popeye"
