Book Recs:

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston - i am in love with the way Hurston uses language. it’s heard to summarizes this novel. Google says it’s about a black woman living in the early 20th century. It’s a beautiful novel about love and loss to me.

Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy - another beautiful novel about love and loss. I read it in one sitting and cried reading it. Set in the near distant future when climate change has truly ravaged the world and a woman is following the migration patterns of birds; I wont say any more than that because the novel goes so much deeper but in unravels in an unexpected way and I don’t want to spoil how beautifully crafted that unraveling is

Sex and Rage by Eve Babitz - a novel about a young woman trying to get her life together and find herself. It’s funny and unapologetic. An accurate depiction of alcoholism imo that’s somehow frustrating and depressing without leaning into pity. the line “she was twenty-eight. It was time for her to OD, not get published.” lives in my mind rent free

The Volcano Lover by Susan Sontag- set in 18th century Naples is the retelling of real but obscure historical figures. Sir William Nelson’s second wife has an affair and falls from grace. Doesn’t seem to have much faith in humanity idk the novel is incredibly dark to me but it’s beautifully written. Obsession and gluttony are major themes. Very well crafted & beautifully written I def enjoyed reading it

All of these speak to me omg eternally grateful for your recs and the little summaries <꒱
