The signs were there.

Your relationship with your husband, Park Jimin, was slowly fading; slowly dwindling into nothingness. You don’t really recall exactly why you’ve been drifting apart or what caused the start of the drift. All you knew, was that one day, two months ago, your husband had come home with a changed, indifferent air around him. Within that long agonising month, you had tried everything to garner his attention. You suggested bike riding down the Han River liked you used to when you began dating, trying to rekindle some of the love and passion in your relationship. However, Jimin had refuted the offer, claiming he had a busy day at work and he was tired. When you suggested a date night, something relaxing like a movie and dinner, Jimin had rebuked that too, not wanting to leave home. But when you’d suggested staying in and watching a film, he’d turned that down too; heading straight to bed instead.

For two months you tried whatever you could. From planned days in so that he could rest if he was tired, all the way to suggesting fun and exciting things like trips to museums or the park like you used to when you were dating. But each and every single idea was turned down with some excuse or another. At some point you began wondering if you had done something to annoy him or said something that caused him to begin pulling away from you. But no matter how much you racked your brain, you couldn’t pinpoint any thing. He was just no longer interested in spending time with you.

You anxiously bit your bottom lip, rocking on the heels of your feet as you tried to work up the courage to knock on the wooden door. You thought about turning around and running off like a dog with its tail between its legs, but you knew if this place didn’t work out, you’d be out on your ass the following week.

Taking a deep breath and telling yourself ‘you can do it’, you knock on the door and wait for a response. After a few moments you don’t hear anything, you wonder if you didn’t knock hard enough to be heard? You raise your first again, eyes closed as you reach out to knock once again, harder this time. Your knuckles make contact with the door for a split second before it’s thrust open and your knuckles connect to flesh.

Your eyes open immediately, jaw slack as you look at where your fist has ended up on the owner’s chest, your eyes casting up as you feel your face burning with embarrassment.

You try to formulate a coherent sentence, but the beauty of the man in front of you is too much for your brain and it sends it into overdrive, making you splutter a “wow!”, instead of an apology. The man raises a dark brow in question, eyeing you up and down before he looks at your hand still on his bare chest from when he interrupted you mid-knock.

“Is this how you greet all your potential landlords or am I special?” He chuckles, admiring the way your face seems to burn scarlet as you gape at him, your hand recoiling off his chest as if it were a scalding pan.
