Day Dress. C. 1855. English. Kyoto Costume Institute.

A blue and white dress on a mannequin. The dress features a crinoline-style, bell-shaped skirt and large pagoda sleeves with fringe and smaller white sleeves underneath. The bodice has three large vertical pleats on each side, tucked into a blue waistband, a white lace collar and a golden brooch. Bodice and sleeves are made from a fabric with a printed blue checker pattern on white ground. The two-tiered skirt features a blue border with white dots around the bottom hem of each tier, and vertical stripes of alternating floral and chequered patterns.
