Dreamed Zdzisłav Beksiński had made a Moby-Dick painting with lots and lots of crawling sailors. Also dreamed I ate pad thai whilst looking at it, so now I want pad thai and a painting that doesn't exist like you wouldn't believe it.

OH BOY. do you realize that you are The Best. i hope you do. this is such a gift holy moly

okay so in the show Dead Boy Detectives, the main cast consists of two ghost detectives (hence the name), their two alive friends who help with cases, several side characters including a lesbian butcher, a man who is comfortably living inside a fish, and an antagonist named Esther Finch (a witch).

this Esther has a crow familiar named Monty. Monty is, as stated, a crow. Bird boy. However, when the two dead boys end up offending Esther, Monty is transformed into a human to infiltrate the good guys' ranks and manipulate them so Esther can destroy them. this is vague in case you want to watch the show, there's a whole bunch more to it!!

ANYWAY. Monty is a bird-turned-human. He lived in a gilded cage too small for him. He's suddenly sent to infiltrate and manipulate the ranks of the good guys, who are nicer to him than Esther ever has been--and that's a low bar, let's be honest. He falls in love. He learns to be human. He loves the stars and astrology. He's barely two weeks old the whole show. Everything is new and harsh and yet--he is a bad guy. He's supposed to be a villain.

And his story is so so so tragic--the only times he knows true freedom are the times where he doesn't actually have his wings. "I never asked to be human. With all these... feelings." He's supposed to be the bad guy. He's literally made to be pretty so he can seduce and manipulate, and he just wants something real for once.

He's just. He's so very important to me. He's simply a wee little bird lad with human feelings stuffed into his little crow heart, being led on a bad path and learning what it means to be human.
