Bruna Lopoli fue la fiel y dedicada camarera y ama de llaves de Maria Callas durante 24 años, ella y Ferucho, el chófer , fueron los únicos testigos de los últimos momentos de la diva belcantista en su encierro en su lujoso apartamento del centro de París donde murió. Bruna fue para Maria el sucedáneo de la madre que nunca tuvo. Bruna fue tan leal a su señora que cuando se especuló que Maria podría haberse suicidado, nadie logró conseguir de ella una sola palabra; ni ella ni el chófer jamás hablaron nada sobre esa especulación. Maria había hecho un testamento de todos sus bienes para dejárselos a Bruna y una parte al chófer pero nunca lo legalizó. Bruna fue el único testigo de como la diva sin voz ya, intentaba sentada al piano en medio de su soledad volver a cantar sin lograrlo.
Bruna murió sola y olvidada, se cuenta que expiró portando en sus manos un pañuelo que fue de "su señora" .

La esposa se miró en el espejo y le preguntó a su esposo: "Todavía soy amada por TI.?"El hombre respondió:" ¡Oh, sí, y muy querido!"

Ella puso su mano sobre su estómago y dijo: "Mira mi estómago mucho más grande y más pesado, mis piernas ya no son suaves..."Ella, con lágrimas en los ojos, preguntó:' ¿por Qué me necesitas así?"
El hombre respondió: "Mira, Cuando toco tu cuerpo, siento tu amor, veo tu buen corazón, veo tu hermosa figura, sé que es la forma perfecta y me diste hijos; los amo mucho. No te enojes por cómo te ves, disfruta de cómo te veo y cómo todavía te siento. ¡Me enamoré de la sensualidad y la bondad de tu alma, no del ajetreo de tu cuerpo!"
Y a través de sus lágrimas dibujó una sonrisa en su rostro que vuelve a brillar.
¡Así es como debe ser en la vida y en el amor, porque no amas con los ojos, sino con el corazón!!!
