And that is WHY the wealthy fight so, so hard to keep every bit of their wealth. They know good and damn well that's their power. And they look at the poor people, and are afraid. Because they cannot imagine that poor people might not act grasping, greedy, and cruel the way they have done. They see their actions as natural and normal and perfectly reasonable... until something threatens to treat THEM the way they treat the poor.
And then, all of a sudden, everything's on fire. Because they can't conceive of compassion, they refuse to believe anyone acts with intentions aimed to benefit literally everyone. So they're afraid of having to suffer the cruelty they've dished out - or at least have allowed to continue while they enjoy all the benefits of the labor of others.

For the first time in six months I feel like maybe I haven't been failing to write...
When I look at writing advice a common thing I see is to first write an outline. But what if I wanna be suprised?
What if I wanna make 36 Pinterest boards correlating to different chapters and draw the characters for six months, write over 17,000 words of scenes and dialogue, never to be used or put together?
I wrote an outline for my book, but it doesn't feel like mine anymore. Not unless everything is a surprise, I wanna be surprised by my own quick thinking and decisions for story direction and dialogue and character development. That's when it feels like mine.
So my question is, do you use outlines?
Have you ever?
And when did it feel like your book?
Before or after?
I tend to outline in the middle or three quarters of the way through, so I don't forget things that need to happen before the end.
Gosh I'd have trouble picking only one! The squirrel and cat are great but the saluki and the rabbit intrigue me a LOT...

reminder to worldbuilders: don't get caught up in things that aren't important to the story you're writing, like plot and characters! instead, try to focus on what readers actually care about: detailed plate tectonics

Hey I know you're not a librarian, but you likely know more than I do and all my sources seem way too confusing to me. Does checking out digital books help support and fund public libraries?
I would assume so, I don't really have any sources for it but as far as I'm aware using any service that the library provides shows that there is a demand in the community for it, which would be a net positive for acquiring funding. At the end of the day they put those resources out there for a reason, so don't be shy about using them :D

I cried a little
obsessed with mass market paperbacks. their pleasing rectangular proportions. how they fit badly in a hoodie pocket so you can drag them around everywhere with you like a temporary little buddy. the way they fit in your hand because they're MADE for human hands and not as bookshelf decoration. the way the pages feel when you riffle them gently with your thumb. How pristine and crisp they look when you get them and how creased and folded they look when you're done, even if you try to be nice to them. how that wear is okay, how that's correct actually, because they're made with the philosophy that books aren't meant to be PRETTY, they're meant to be read. that little ripple new ones get on the left side from where you hold them when you're reading, the way the ripple only goes as far as you've read, because u change stories by reading as they are changing you. how you can find thousands of these creased and folded and loved little dudes in every thrift store and used book shop and neighborhood library and you can instantly see the ones that someone carried around in a backpack for weeks or read to pieces or gave up on halfway through because they wear being read like fresh snow wears footprints. I love these poorly made, subpar little rectangles so much. truly the people's books.
