I love Cesar!!!!!

TMC character analysis I made last night when I was very tired - I’m posting it here because I don’t know where else to throw it (I edited some parts as commentary)

Not much can truly be said about him (even though I love him so much/p) compared to other characters but I’ll try my best.

I think Mark has always showed signs of something hidden within himself, wether it’d be a potential predisposition to schizophrenia (???) or simply intense paranoia. But what is clear to me is that he seemed to have had a psychotic personality structure (according to Kernberg’s theories) (please stop projecting girlie), but I’m not too sure if he truly was on the healthy side before the interaction with Cesar’s alternate since I don’t think it was the first time he’s encountered one before (I’m not talking about the intruder however). Though I am no psychologist so don’t take what I’m saying like it’s the ultimate truth, I can be very much wrong. What I can suppose is that his paranoia may just appear at night or when he’s simply alone for a certain period of time. After all, eerie tapes in his camcorder of himself driving or walking around have always been recorded at night or in a dark room when no one else was there. (I don’t know why I included diagnosis’s in there and I’m deeply sorry if I said anything wrong or incorrect. Honestly this is the paragraph that makes me the least comfortable but I also think that what I said could be further discussed so I left it here.)

Other than that, and despite what seemed to be a very troubled childhood filled with strangers in closets and such, Mark has, from the few instances of sanity he showed in the entire series, always been a calm and caring (although reserved) individual, as it has been proven at the start of his call with Cesar’s alternate in volume 1, when he immediately asked if he was alright. From what we know about their friendship, no, they don’t hate each other like that leaked screenshot implied, but they’re not ride or dies either. They’re more like friends of friends, so him agreeing to come to his house after been asked once despite having stated that he isn’t comfortable going in it shows that not only he trusts Cesar, he might even slightly force himself to. Maybe he’s self conscious about his paranoia and wants to toss it aside because of how restraining it is to constantly live in fear and anxiety? I might be reading too deep into it, after all, from how he expressed he was uncomfortable, he didn’t seem to actually be forcing himself so I don’t know.

After the call

Not much can be said when he drove to the house and turned the cameras on. He simply got through the task and went home like he said he would.

It was when he came back that everything went downhill. I personally believe that from the requisitioned items the police showed in the investigatory tapes, he may have had a stronger reaction than a regular victim would’ve had. Not only because, well, he prayed a lot while religious and spiritual beliefs were to be avoided, but also because he mentally snapped due to the many years of paranoid(?) build up within himself. I mean, he lived his entire life seeing shadowy figures and strange blurry shapes in a world where alternates roamed and kill knowing he would eventually be next since he kept seeing them, only for this surreal moment to come when he least expected it, so I don’t see how anyone wouldn’t want to melt onto the floor if that ever happened to them. It’s like his entire entire existence was an uncanny dream from the very start which just turned into an absolute nightmare.

And at the very last, his death (tf is that title)

The last moments of his life are probably one of the most tragic things I’ve ever seen. To me, he didn’t die in a few seconds via a bullet shot at his head. He died in long, agonizing days when the thing he once thought was his friend put him through mental anguish for hours on end with the sole purpose of making him end his life on his own, forcing him to reach the other side to escape what could be considered hell on earth, which, by the way, happened in his bedroom which is often seen as a place of refuge and comfort. Cesar’s alternate made him forget about everything that made him human and tore his will to live apart like mouse traps kill rodents.

And again, I think that’s tragic. (Well no shit.)
