Hhhhhhhyeah - Hhhhyeah

There’s something about seeing a story about a gay character written by a gay person be acted out by a gay actor that just really gets to me. They understand and they sympathise and it just hits way harder than when it’s a straight actor. I’m not saying that straight people can’t play gay characters, they can and some of my favourite gay characters are played by straight people, but there is something especially poignant about Andrew Scott saying yeah it’s hard but it’ll get better. He knows. John Butler who wrote the line, knows. They aren’t thinking abstractly but speaking from experience, or at least I imagine they are. Knowing that this person on the screen has gone through something similar to yourself and yet is exactly where they are now is so encouraging. If they can do that why can’t you?

there are a lot of great parts in Handsome Devil but the best by far is when Conor is first talking to Ned and he’s like why do you like old stuff so much and Ned being gay and a teenager goes bc modern life is rubbish and Conor also being gay and a teenager nods his gay teenage head and goes I hear that
