Song - Paper rings by Taylor Swift

Accidents

“SHIT” Cussed out a boy on his way to let his (sorry) ass (not so) gracefully land on the ice. On his way falling he bumped into a speeding girl. She took a few steps back steadying herself.

Rotating facing the boy, daggers thrown against the nape of his head. All the murderous intentions vanished when she faced him, planting his ass on the ice letting his upper body fall on the ice. Clenching his hands moving it up and down as if he’s a little child throwing a tantrum. Chuckling lightly at his little tantrum she reached out her hand. The boy raised his head up, staring at the hand above him. He squinted, making out the face of a girl. the boy huffed in embarrassment and defeat reaching up for her hard.

Scoffing at her he stumbles his way up greeted by a series of snorts and chuckles. “I-it’s not funny!” He stuttered out of embarrassment. Looking down, ears and cheeks clearly red from their encounterment. Pulling on his hair as he screamed hiding his face in his hands facing up to see her, eyes shift everywhere except her eyes. Grinning at him widely “come on… it’s pretty funny” stomach hurting from hurling out of laughter cheeks hurting from smiling too long.

Nevertheless, Jihyo [could only think of mother [stream killin’ me good]] saw that unexplainable and rare scenery of her younger sister talking to a person; a guy to be exact talking as if they’ve known each other for decades. She smiles to herself taking a picture of them together for err memories her friend came to her with a questioning glance she tilts her head towards them smiling at her friend.

“First time?” asked the girl after practically begging him to stop hiding his face and when he didn’t want to, she wrestled his arms, prying them away. Him; a complete stranger. “That obvious?” he blurted out with his dignity finally looking into her dark cold eyes lingering. It took him a moment to come back to his senses, clearing his throat as he settled his eyes on the icy floor.

She tilts her head sideways forming a small and light smile she brings her right arm in front of her chest shaking it sideways as a symbol of 50/50 as she scrunches her nose. The girl noticed a school of teenagers her age looking and pointing at them while whispering. “Your friends?” she pointed out straightening her back making her look extra taller than he is. “Yea actually, they dragged me here.” he chuckled out looking back at the memory.

See, the boy has never liked the ice. His friends had always talked about it, but he always managed to chicken out. Nonetheless, this time his friends had a plan to drag him into the skating rink. Literally. Changbin eyed Chan urging him to take the upper half while he took his lower. Chan grabbed both his arms while Changbin grabbed his legs carrying him effortlessly as if he's some ragdoll. Stumbling on his shoes he cried out a pathetic help to the people in the mall (no one stopped to make sure he’s ok.)

“Want me to help you?” she offered softly, her voice sounds like music in his ears is what I would say if it were true which isn’t. She offered him in a low awkward voice twirling to show off her [basic] skating skills. She reached out her hand hoping he would take her offer. He stared at her hand not knowing what to do. So he ran. Well he wobbly skates away like a newborn penguin from her back to his friends. Scooting against the railing slowly even a snail on ice is way faster than he is. She sighed looking at the now empty space in front of her. She leaned her back onto the railing regretting what she did ‘well, that went well.’  She thought to herself having an internal pity party over someone she doesn’t know. And a guy for that matter could've been a girl could’ve been a cat but a boy? That was the last thing she would have ever expected.

A boy bumped into her just as she was about to skate away, not just any boy that’s right it’s him. “Hey! Where are you going?” the boy rushed up onto his feet quickly holding her hand. “Come on! What are you waiting for? I don’t want to spend another second knowing that i’m gonna fall on my ass every time I take a step.” he took a slow and careful step forward repeating what she did before; holding his hand out for her to take which leaves the poor girl confused he just left her for his friends and now he came back? That question wrecked her brain. Nevertheless, she still took his hand.

The rest of the afternoon went on as a blur of laughter, jokes, silly questions and mostly falls. She took [more than] a couple of photos as a keepsake ignoring all his complaints. She felt happier and more alive than she had ever been in a long time. Losing track of time they both didn’t realize that the amazing time they had had come to an end rushing out of the rink and into the mall she had realized that she had known nothing about him, not even his name. She went back to the rink telling her sister she left something she ran as fast as her legs could take her. She was too late. He's gone. Nowhere to be found. She went out of the rink sulking when she saw her older sister waiting for her “got what you need?” Jihyo asked her clearly out of breath complaining how tired she is from running across the mall just to make sure she’s okay. That is what Jonya said when in reality she took all the time in the world and she even slowed her walking pace. Her little sister nodded clearly disappointed and tired [cause she RAN there to catch a BOY -that mind you- she knew nothing of].

DOVE Genre Fluff. Prince Au. Childhood Friends To Lovers. A Pinch Of Angst Maybe?warnings Tiny Bit Of

Harua was born very sick. He had a hereditary heart condition— the same as his mother. Hearing the news of his condition a few hours after his birth, his father decided that he was too fragile to take on the role of a prince, so he was kept hidden from the world.

From that moment on, Harua was never allowed outside unsupervised. He was confined inside the castle where the palace nurses could make sure he was safe 24 hours a day. Whenever he went outside, he was accompanied by his mother and 2 nurses. They were all paranoid that his heart might stop at any minute.

Harua never felt as fragile as they told him he was.

His mother often took him to the beach when he was little as the doctors said the seabreeze was good for him. Harua loved everything about the beach. He loved the shells that he found on the shore, how they twisted and spiralled into different colours. He loved the waves, their constant push and pull towards the shore and towards his feet. He loved how the sand felt between his toes, how soft and smooth it was. He loved how he could build little castles with the sand depending on how much water he added.

But, most of all, he loved the girl who found the shells, raced against the waves, walked along the shore, and built castles with him. He loved the girl who made him feel normal. No mentions of being royalty. No mentions of his weak heart. You made him feel at ease, even as a little child.

You were always on the beach whenever Harua came, and he used to come almost every day. It didn’t matter what you were doing with him, any time spent with Harua was precious to you.

When Harua was 12, his mother died of her heart condition. Her sudden death caused such a stir in the kingdom, that the palace almost completely shut down. The king fell into a depression, having lost his precious wife. He spent most of the day by her grave and did not speak to Harua or anyone else in the castle.

Without his mother to accompany him, Harua was no longer allowed to go off the castle grounds. He was able to access the gardens and the little patch of woods where wild mushrooms and forest creatures dwelled, but he could not go to the sea.

He could not see you.

It wasn’t just the king that seemed sorrowed by the queen’s passing, even Harua’s nurses and maids who he had become good friends with barely spoke a word to him anymore. It was like everyone had forgotten his existence, trying to keep the kingdom alive with the king almost completely isolating himself from society.

Harua missed the balls and the laughter. He missed seeing his mother in pretty dresses and dancing with princesses. He missed the palace he once knew— the palace that was alive. But nothing could compare to how much he missed you.

He spent most days by his window, like he was sitting now. If he squinted hard enough, he could just barely see the start of the shoreline in the far distance. It didn’t seem so far away when he was little, but now it was practically unreachable.

He tried not to cry. An 18 year old prince should not be swayed to tears so easily. But his life really was miserable, and shining tears slipped down his milky cheek the longer he stared out the window.

He was trapped.

His mother used to sing a song when he was little, the lyrics depicting a dove trapped in a cage with a broken wing. It’s situation seemed helpless, until a small swallow helped it. He didn’t realise when he was younger that his mother was comparing him to the dove. But now, he was starting to realise what she meant.

The cage that the dove was confined in was the palace. The dove’s broken wing was his weak heart. And the swallow who saved the dove from its life of isolation and loneliness was you.

He wanted to rush out of the palace and sink his feet into the warm sand again, but he knew that no one would let him leave. Sneaking out was an option, but Harua didn’t know if he had the courage to pull something like that. His entire life he had been well behaved and obedient. He listened to his parent’s requests and followed their rules. Yes, he was 18 now. Technically an adult. But he had never broken a rule in his entire life. Somehow, the thought of breaking that streak was worse than anything.

If he couldn’t go out and see you, maybe there was another solution.

Harua may not have taken on princely duties most of his life, but he knew how things worked in the palace. He knew the offices and which people to go to if he wanted to find someone— summon someone.

So, he did. He sent a request for Miss Y/n L/n to be sent to the palace immediately. Doing as little as that was very satisfying for Harua. He had never been allowed to lift a finger his entire life. He was dismissed as incompetent because he was sick. But, he was smart and witty. He had learned the ins and outs of the palace from just observation.

Now that the request was sent, all that was left to do was wait. He hadn’t seen you since he was 12, and the longer he waited in the entranceway of the palace, the more he felt nervous to see you again.

He had always liked you, and he still did after all this time. You were the only girl that he really knew. The princesses he had danced with had been pretty, but they were all the same once you tried to get to know them. And maybe he was always subconsciously comparing them to you. It was like they faded into the distance whenever he thought of them compared to you.

If Harua had to describe you, he would compare you to freshly blossomed flowers or rich chocolate cake. The splash of cool water on a hot day or the crackle of a wood on fire. You were vibrant and full of life. He couldn't explain just how wonderful you were. There weren’t enough words in the world to even begin to scratch the surface of you. He could easily spend his entire life admiring you.

And all of this was just from his memory of you. Harua wondered how much you would have changed in 6 years. Did you still love seashells and the waves? Did you still love strawberry shortcake more than any other dessert in the world? Did you still prefer light blue dresses to pink?

Harua knew that he had changed in 6 years. He didn’t smile as much. He didn’t even remember the last time he had laughed. He spent most of the time in the library when before he had never even wanted to touch a book.

As he thought through it all, he only became more impatient to see you again. He had already checked in his mirror to make sure he looked his best, but it had been hours since he sent the request. Surely it wouldn’t be that much longer?

Thankfully, it wasn’t. The guards announced your arrival an hour later, and Harua raced to the front entrance. He had had hours to think and prepare himself for seeing you again, 6 years later, but nothing could have prepared him for just how beautiful you looked.

You were dressed simply in a plain dress, certainly nothing fancy compared to your elegant surroundings. Your hair was tied back and it reminded Harua of how much you used to hate tying your hair back when you were little. Maybe that’s one of the ways you had changed. You looked confused and a little unsettled.

Harua’s heart dropped at the thought that the guards might have been rude to you or been too rough escorting you to the palace. What if you thought you had done something wrong? Did you think you were called here for a bad reason?

You turned and finally made eye contact with Harua. He felt like your gaze had completely frozen him to his spot, his feet sticking to the floor no matter how hard he tried to move them. But as you looked at him, he saw your expression relax and all the fear in your eyes melt away. It faded his nerves as well, and he was able to offer you a small smile.

“Y/n?” It felt surreal calling out the name after so many years. You were his best friend, his closest companion. You had known him since you were a baby. So why did he feel so awkward?

“Harua!” You smiled— god, he had missed your smile. You looked elated, as if it were your birthday or something. You eagerly stepped forward, embracing Harua in a hug before the boy had time to think.

It was kind of like his brain malfunctioned at that point. You had been several feet away just seconds ago but now you were so close, arms wrapped around his still frozen figure, face buried in the crook of his neck. It felt as if nothing had changed. Nothing was different. 6 years had passed but you were still Y/n and he was still Harua.

He relaxed completely, smiling just as widely as you and wrapping his arms around you, giving you a gentle squeeze. He could smell your hair from how close he was, picking up the subtle hints of lavender and rose. It was comforting and familiar and he hugged you closer.

“I missed you.” You whispered, laying your cheek against his chest and you could just barely make out his heartbeat— it was racing. You were glad you weren’t the only one.

“I missed you too. I’m sorry I left that day.” He mumbled, referencing the last day he had seen you. Palace guards had come unexpectedly and taken Harua back to the palace without a single explanation for him or you. You thought you would see him again the next day, but he never showed up. You waited for an entire week at the beach, waiting for him to come back. You never knew why he wasn’t able to until now.

Harua showed you his room and around the castle grounds. It was most deserted, but still glamorous and elegant. You had never seen such intricate architecture and sophisticated decorations. There were paintings hung on the wall that were twice as tall as you, and statues in the gardens so lifelike and impressive that you could only wonder how much they cost.

As it grew later in the evening, Harua took you to the dining hall where an immaculate dinner spread was provided by the chefs. It was just you and him in the endlessly big palace. He showed you the attic filled with artifacts and the 3 story library that had secret rooms in the bookshelves. The day was filled with wonder and laughter and reunion. You never wanted it to end.

It was dusk and Harua was walking in the garden with you, hand-in-hand. The moon was up in the sky, showing itself as the sun set for the day, soft pinks and yellows mingling together in the sky before fading to a dark blue. It was gorgeous.

“Harua?”

“Hm?”

“Do you remember the promise you made me when we were 11?” You weren’t sure why your brain thought of it at this very moment, but the thought made you smile.

“That I would marry you?” He responded immediately, the memory still clear in his head.

“Yeah. I still have the ring, you know.”

“Really?”

“I wasn’t going to throw it out, obviously. I always thought one day I’d reunite with you and you’d make the promise come true, you know?” You said, words floating along with the breeze.

“Do you still want it?” He looked at you, eyes shimmering— sparkling like the stars. He was the prettiest boy you had ever seen.

“If you… would settle for a girl like me.” You gulped, but the lump in your throat didn’t go away. When you were little, you didn’t understand the difference in class. You didn’t realise how absurd the thought of someone like you marrying a prince was. Though, it seemed to work out in fairytales.

“I wouldn’t be settling for anything less than perfect.” Harua said sternly.

“Did you forget that you’re a prince?”

“I don’t feel like a prince, Y/n. There’s nothing about me that screams princelike.” He said with a frown, “And I’ve never met anyone who I liked better than you. If anyone asked me to describe the perfect person, I would only ever be able to think of you.”

You blushed at his words, looking away at a rose bush to distract yourself from his pretty face. He seemed to notice your embarrassment and it made him smile. He silently picked one of the roses from a nearby bush— a soft yellowy-pink one that reminded him of you. He offered it to you, brushing a strand of your hair behind your hair as he did so.

“You’re blushing.” He said softly, almost in awe of the pretty colour that tinted your cheeks.

“You’re not helping.” You replied back, carefully taking the rose from his hand.

“Huh?”

“Harua!” You whined, frustrated that the boy didn’t seem to realise the effect his actions had on you.

“I’m sorry-”

“Don’t be.” You pressed a finger to his lips, preventing him from speaking another word. “It’s endearing.”

This time, he blushed at your words, his once confident eyes shying away from your gaze. You wanted to coo at how cute the sight was, or maybe you really were just too enraptured by the boy that sat in front of you.

“You really want to?” You asked again, wanting him to clear away any last bit of uncertainty that you had. You were still guarding your heart, too scared that it might get broken if you offered it to Harua.

But, his eyes softened and he nodded and gave you a reassuring smile. The gaze melted away all your worries and doubts, and you put all your trust in him.

“Then I’m all yours.” You whispered.

If you had thought about this in terms of the books you had read, you should’ve known that a kiss would come next. You shouldn’t have been surprised when Harua started to lean in, soft lips searching for yours. But you were never able to predict anything with Harua, and so, when his lips finally pressed against yours, your heart was startled. It skipped a beat and then sped up, thumping heavily in your chest. You started to wonder if this reaction was normal.

Harua’s lips felt plush and soft, somehow much more moisturised than yours. They felt nice— a heart fluttering, blush-inducing feeling that you never wanted to end. But, neither of you had unlimited breath, and you had to pull away eventually.

Harua’s eyes held such fondness as he looked at you after the kiss, your eyes still closed, cheeks burning. You were so pretty, so precious to him. He loved you more than anything in this world.

You were his swallow.

That is what yn said when in reality she took all the time in the world and she even slowed her walking pace. Her little sister nodded clearly disappointed and tired [cause she RAN there to catch a BOY -that mind you- she knew nothing of].

SUPER SHY You Viewed Zhanghao Was Your New Rival, He Hired You As A Role Model He Was Secretly Smitten

PAIRING. rival!zhanghao x classmate!reader GENRE. rivals to lovers, ballet dancer au, fluff, slight angst. WC. 2.3k words WARNINGS. like five minor curse words, ballet (ofc), pointe shoes, kissing, getting caught twice, yn kinda has a huge ego.

SUPER SHY You Viewed Zhanghao Was Your New Rival, He Hired You As A Role Model He Was Secretly Smitten

HAO WAS NOW ANNOUNCED as your number one competition. He had only been in your ballet academy for 2 months and was already the centre of attention; your friends were now his, your favourite dance teachers now adored him, your top spot was now leaving you and going to him.

“Scared Hao’s gonna take ‘your’ number one spot?” Karina teased, nudging your arm. You scoff as a reply, “As if.” but you were still plenty scared.

Hyunjin chuckles from next to you. “Mhm.. maybe he’s not trying to, but the coaches sure as hell are obsessed with him.” He points at hao, blushing and smiling sheepishly because of the praise he was receiving from his teacher.

You drink your water while glaring holes into the new star. For three years, you were the teachers favourite, centre material and taking the lead roles. Comfortable in that number 1 spot.

After hao came waltzing in, you were now gripping onto that spot instead. He was just perfect, sharp, on beat, charismatic, learned the choreography fast. “There’s no way I’m losing to him.”

The coach gathered you around to begin the audition.

Your academy went through tons of ballet pieces, and you were expected to be the lead every time. Even when your teammates were planned to be backup dancers for musicals, you were often the most seen on stage.

Some of the other dancers would describe you as cocky even, but you didn’t mind. After hao joined however, you started to care a ton more.

When Hao was dancing, you had to admit, he was close to perfection. He acted well, was strong and sharp — you didn’t even have to look at the directors to know they liked him.

“You all did fantastic.” Your teacher announced as the audition was over. Deciding to stay over for a little while, you catch sight of a few other dancers there. “I’m so worried about the results..” You heard one of them say. “Jia, don’t worry, Y/n’s gonna get the lead anyways.” Yujin, another dancer.

You snicker secretly, not wanting to be noticed by them. Jia sighs but agrees with her friend. “You really think Y/n’ll get it again?” Another girl, Dayeon adds. “I think Hao’s gonna beat her this time.

Immediately, your face contorts into a worried and intrigued look. “Yeah, with Hao joining she’s been doing a lot worse.. I guess her ego is fading.” Yujin comments.

“It’s about time, she was getting too cocky for her own good.” Jia says, making the girls laugh together and leave the hallway. Across the hall, you see hao buying a drink from the vending machine.

How annoying, he even bought the healthiest drink and with perfect posture. You sigh before going to another dance room, slamming the door and dropping your bag.

As you lean on the wall, you sigh and scroll through your phone. Your feet were numb and hurt like crazy, but that pain was forgotten about as you scroll through zhanghao’s Instagram page.

Pictures of him getting awards, practising, on Broadway and getting to meet famous coaches and ballerinas, you were envious to say the least. “Perfect bastard.”

All of a sudden, a knock is heard through the room as you turn your head towards the door. Through the small window, you catch the perfect boy pursing and biting his lip nervously.

You roll your eyes before opening the door. “Hey, zhanghao.”

“Hi.” He awkwardly says, his jacket sleeves covering his fingers as he fiddles with them. “Is there.. anything you left in here?” You purse your lips.

He widens his eyes. “Oh! Uhm.. no. I just wanted to talk to you.” He stutters in front of you, smiling anxiously. “Oh.. ok. About what?” You say, turning your back towards him and walking to the middle of the room, him following behind.

Hao coughs before lightly saying, “Uh.. I thought you did really well today.” He avoids eye contact with you, but walks towards you nonetheless.

Shy mistake as he accidentally bumps into you, standing in the middle of the room. You look up at the boy as he looks at you with wide eyes. “You did?” You ask with an eyebrow raised.

“Yeah..” He rubs his neck nervously. “I.. really look up to you.” He blushes while saying, making you raise both of your eyebrows this time. “Really? How do you look up to me.. I don’t want to say it but.. you’re literally perfect.”

Hao gasps at you, “Me? No, you’re the one who’s always getting leads and praise from teachers and with the younger dancers always looking up to you!”

You scoff, “Yeah right.. the teachers are literally obsessed with you, I just heard some of the dancers shit-talking me before you came.”

“Yeah.. I know, I heard them. Hey! By the way, they don’t know what the hell they’re talking about! You’re amazing.. and a crazy good dancer!” He exclaims, making you chuckle and blush slightly at the boy.

As he notices your giddy smile, he can’t help but look at you with heart-eyes. He couldn’t believe he was actually getting his crush to blush right in front of him. You look down while chuckling but he can’t take his eyes off of you.

His grown confidence strengthens his eye contact with you as you look back up at him. “You’re really good too, y’know..” you say, softly hitting your hand against his chest.

He scoffs, “Not as good as you.”

“So.. you came here to.. comfort me?”

He purses his lips and coughs shyly again. “Yeah.. basically.”

You chuckle at him again. “I didn’t realise you were this shy..”

Hao widens his eyes and moistens his lips, “Shy? No..! I’m just.. casual.” He crosses his arms. You giggle at his shyness again.

But your little moment is quickly interrupted with the barging in of two loud friends. “Y/n?” Both Karina and Hyunjin exclaim, seeing you two so close with red faces. “Uhh..”

SUPER SHY You Viewed Zhanghao Was Your New Rival, He Hired You As A Role Model He Was Secretly Smitten

“YOU AND HAO?” Karina exclaims as you hurriedly leave the room with the trolls walking right next to you. “Karina, shut up.” You say quickly. “Of course you two would get together! It’s a perfect movie! Enemies to lovers!”

Hyunjin turns around and starts walking backwards, facing you and Karina. “We were expecting it not gonna lie.. it was so obvious.” You pause immediately, “What do you mean?”

The pair scoffs at you, looking at each other, looking at you and immediately saying, “You were so in love with him!” in unison.

“Wha-!? No way! We’re not even a thing!”

They immediately look confused. “But, you were in love!”

You scoff again, “I am not in love with him.” You buy another soda from the vending machine, noticing the bottled tea he bought just below it.

Hyunjin leans his elbow on the vending machine, “You really don’t like him?” He asks. You sigh before shaking your head. “He just.. comforted me a little, felt good and you two came barging in.”

Karina groans right after, “So something really could’ve happened if we didn’t come!” She winces at hyunjin.

SUPER SHY You Viewed Zhanghao Was Your New Rival, He Hired You As A Role Model He Was Secretly Smitten

THE DAY HAD COME, to see you get the lead again, of course.

You were nervous, but you reassured yourself that you did well. Even zhanghao thought so! So you had to get it, right?

“You all did well, but first of all, the lead for this recital will be..” you all cheered in anticipation.

“Zhanghao!” Then your heart sank. You clapped for the boy and smiled at his excited smile as his new friends congratulated him as well, but you were still upset — that this was the first time you hadn’t gotten the lead role.

Some of the dancers looked at you in shock and gasped, while others were too busy cheering for hao. You felt guilty to feel so upset, maybe the three girls from yesterday were right after all, you were getting too cocky for your own good.

He caught you looking at him and looking away, talking to your friends, the smile on his face dropped yet his friends were still cheering for him.

You were announced as one of the 2 second leads, one of his character’s friends. It wasn’t even a bad role, what makes it worse was that your co-lead dancer was Jia, of all people.

The one who you caught yesterday saying you were too cocky for your own good. The one who was over the moon when she found out she had gotten such a role. The one was all giddy when realising her role would bring her close to zhanghao, upset that you’d be in the way.

Untying your pointe shoes, you overhear and see Jia walking up to Hao. He felt the opposite of your feelings, he instead felt guilty for feeling so excited when knowing you wanted the part as well. The other classmates furrowed and raised their eyebrows at his sudden disappointment.

“Hey Hao..” Jia said. Even her posture was perfect, hair now down and in her casual clothes. You don’t know why you suddenly felt jealous of her. She was just some girl, some girl talking to zhanghao, some very pretty girl who had perfect hair who was talking to zhanghao.

Speaking of, hao looked at the girl. “Oh, hi. Jia, was it?” He greeted. “Yeah.. we haven’t spoken before but I thought it’d be a good chance to.. you know, for the role.”

Hao smiles at her, “Oh. Yeah, for the role.” He chuckles at her, shaking her hand. She blushes and goes back to her gigging friends.

As you pack up your belongings, you ignore the conversation and try to leave after the girls.

“Y/n!” Hao called after you, making you squint your eyes before turning around to him and saying a small, “Yeah?”

He smiles nervously at you, looking to the floor. “Uh..”

“Oh! Congratulations for the lead role! Can’t believe you got it!” You say, going close to hug him. He held a shocked expression, shocked that you’d actually embrace him. He reciprocates the hug anyways, chuckling while patting your back.

But you immediately stand far away from him after you pull away, “Thanks.” He says. You nod back before turning around to leave again. “Wait!”

You huff and turn around again. “Yeah?”.

“I don’t know if this is.. totally douchebag-y of me to do. But I’ve never been a lead character in this.. type of genre before.” He confesses, rubbing his red neck.

His statement seriously makes you baffled, “You? You’ve never been a lead in a dance? How.. aren’t you like a professional dancer?”

He freezes at this, “Yeah.. but I’ve never played as a lead role in this.. school. And I didn’t do very well in the audition.” As if, you tried your best and you got to be a side character. He just fooled around, did better than you and got the lead part.

You ignore your thoughts, focusing on his offer still. “So.. what do you want me to do?” He looks up at you. “I was.. kinda hoping you could help me around.. I’ve heard you’ve been the lead in almost every piece..” he chuckles, thinking it would be a good subject to make you feel better, but your still face says otherwise.

Zhanghao stops laughing and coughs again, “And I really liked your audition. So.. it’s totally fine if you don’t want to- I’m not pressuring you or anything! But.. could you help?”

You scoff, “You want help from me? Second-best?” You point at yourself. He nods immediately.

Despite feeling tired and down already, you sigh and lightly throw your bag down, walking closer to him. “Uhh..” you scan his face, searching for any remark you could give him.

“You’re.. really strong.” He looks at you in shock.

He furrows his eyebrows, “Huh?”

You gulp, “Your expression. It’s really sharp and charismatic. But your character is so.. fragile?”

Hao listens so intently, eyebrows furrowed and eyes so focused you could just melt right there. “The lead is really innocent and..”

“Fragile?” He finishes your sentence.

Chuckling, you nod before saying, “Yeah.. So don’t be so ‘black swan’ and be more.. fragile.” Hao looks confused again. “..Like, how?” He asks.

“Just smile more. And.. be more yourself! You’re already super shy and innocent, so you’re basically your character already!” You smile, watching the way his face turns more shy, just like you had said.

He nods at you, “Alright, thanks. Anything more?”.

You take a deep breath in before saying, “Maybe.. you’re a little too.. firm.” He widens his eyes again. “You’re really sharp and.. perfect.” You chuckle as he chuckles back.

“The lead has growth in ballet, right? He has to be bad to good, not good to good. If you’re already good, there’s no growth!” You say. “How?” He asks, but you genuinely scoff, he’s really asking you how to be imperfect.

As you step a little closer to him, you lightly grab his hands as he turns red again, “Just.. let loose in the beginning.”

He furrows his eyebrows, “Let.. loose?”

You look up at him, noticing how much you’ve stepped, the close proximity almost scaring you.

“Yeah.. be relaxed, you don’t need to perfect anything.” You say, noticing that he’s also moving slightly forward towards you.

He hums in understanding, head turned to the side as he still holds your hands. You can’t help but internally freak out at the closeness, one tiny gust of wind and you’d be landing on those plush lips of his.

“Just.. let loose..” You whisper this time as he hums once more.

You both can feel the tension in the empty ballet room, breaths frozen as his eyes dart towards your lips and eyes, circling his thumb on your hand. Lightly, he presses his soft lips onto yours as you two lean slightly into each other.

It lasts for a second before you separate, but the tension just strengthens after that. Your breaths intertwine with each other, as you only stare at his lips. Again, he slowly leans into you, pressing his lips against yours.

He kisses you slowly, hands still holding yours and lips moving together. He moves his head to the side and you open your mouths, and and your tongues meet each other — it’s almost as if they’re dancing together.

The both of you pull away after 10 seconds (yes, you counted) and you look away immediately. When you look up at him, he looks at you.

Foreheads almost touching, he giggles and you smile back and chuckle at the moment as well. “Was that loose enough?”

You gasp at his comment, making him laugh again. “I don’t know, I wasn’t paying attention.” You chuckle. “Well, pay attention this time.” He says, leaning in again.

As your lips meet again, you both smile and giggle into the kiss. “I.. I miss when you were shy zhanghao.” You say against his lips, making him giggle even more as he pressed more kisses onto your lips.

Just like yesterday, a loud door noise surprises you two again. There stands, the troll-duo. “Ok, now you two have to be in love!” Karina says while clapping her hands as hyunjin stands with his jaw to the ground, laughing at you two looking shocked and.. super shy.

One Man's Loss Is Another Man's Gain

wc: 4k warnings: none; a little angsty, very fluffy ending; some swears; the other guy in this is a bit of a meanie bo beanie and won't leave you alone pronouns: none used; n/a summary: when a popular boy keeps begging reader for a second chance, bestfriend!taerae pretends to be their boyfriend to finally get rid of him; university au ~masterlist~ ♡ ~kofi (no pressure at all)~ Guys. “Oh my god, ew!” You squeal. “Absolutely not.”

Noah rolls her eyes. “Really? He’s standing right there.”

You look to your left at your best friend Taerae, who is biting his lip quietly. “Sorry, Tae. Obviously I don’t mean that you’re gross. But you are gross to me.”

He nods. “No, yeah. I get it.”

Noah smacks your shoulder. “Come on, (Y/N). This is brilliant. You fake-date Taerae for a couple weeks and everyone stops bothering you. And then you can ‘break up’ and go right back to normal,” she urges. “Simple.”

“Taerae does not want to do that,” you reply, waiting for him to agree. The silence you’re met with is concerning. “Right, Taerae?”

Your friend is still chewing on his lip in contemplation when your eyes meet his again. “I don’t want people bothering you anymore. Especially that asshole…”

Brandon. President of the university honor society. Captain of the basketball team. Your assigned desk partner in Latin American History.

You'd sat next to him all semester, starry-eyed as you silently willed him to talk to you before finally being assigned to a project together on La Nueva Canción-- Chilean revolutionary music. Taerae had pouted for days when you were assigned the only topic relating to music.

The truth was, you didn't really care what topic you were assigned. The only thing that mattered to you was that after your topic had been assigned by your professor, Brandon turned to you for the first time all year and said, "Sounds kind of cool."

You nodded far too enthusiastically.

For a week, you met with Brandon in the library after his basketball practice to research La Nueva Canción and construct a compelling slideshow presentation for class. As far as you were concerned, spending your nights in the library was absolute bliss. Brandon smiled at you (sometimes), joked with you (twice), and even complimented you on your font choice for the presentation...

Then one night, a group of guys approached your table in the library. Brandon audibly sighed before putting on a smile to greet them. You recognized some of them as other guys on the basketball and football teams.

"You going out tonight?" One of them asked, resting his hand on Brandon's shoulder.

Brandon shook his head. "I'm tired."

Another guy rolled his eyes. "No, you're not. You just don't want to go out without Melanie."

Brandon shrugged. "I didn't say that."

"Yeah, but we all know it. Come on, man. Go ahead and get back out there. You can pull anyone you want!" The first guy insisted.

"I--..." Brandon stuttered before his head turned quickly to look at you, eyes lighting up. "I already did."

You blinked back at him wordlessly, unsure of what was going on. Brandon reached across the table, resting his large hand on top of yours.

"We're going out," Brandon announced. "Tonight."

The group of boys looked at you, seemingly having not even noticed you before Brandon's acknowledgement. Their brows furrowed confusedly, looking back and forth between each other to see if their eyes deceived them.

"But that's--," one of the guys started to say, but Brandon cut them off.

"Awesome, right? I thank you for being so supportive of me. We need to wrap up this project fast though if we want to make it to our dinner reservation on time! See you guys tomorrow," Brandon said quickly, waving at the guys until they gave up and left.

When it was just the two of you again, Brandon's head fell to his hands as he laughed in relief. He looked back up at you after a moment. "Sorry about that."

You were sure your eyes were absolutely bugging out of their sockets.

"Can I make it up to you by... buying you dinner or something?" Brandon offered with a lop-sided smile.

Your ability to suppress the scream that had built in your throat was an impressive display of restraint. "Really?"

Brandon shrugged. "Yeah, I guess. Why not?"

You nodded. "Okay."

"Wanna meet at the cafe down the street in an hour? I just want to drop my stuff off in my room and change," he suggested, picking up his bag and throwing his laptop and loose papers in.

You nodded again. "Okay."

Brandon exhaled a laugh, before making his way to the doors. "Okay."

You spent the next forty-five minutes racing back to your dorm and getting ready for your date with Brandon. Changing into something presentable, applying an ample amount of moisturizer to your face, and fixing your hair before rushing back out the door and strolling happily down the street to the cafe across from campus.

It was about 10:30 P.M. when you arrived and, once inside, you sat down at a table with cushioned chairs by the window. A waitress came to grab your order and, after a few minutes, brought you your drink.

"You look so lovely," she complimented, placing the drink down on your table. "Are you waiting for someone?"

You smiled shyly and nodded.

"Whoever it is is very lucky!" She remarked sweetly and returned to her post.

You took out your phone, scrolling mindlessly through Instagram while you waited for Brandon to arrive. You kept one eye glued to the door as the minutes passed, your heart beating so fast you considered the possibility of needing an ambulance.

But after ten minutes, twenty minutes, thirty minutes...

An hour later, you finally texted Noah.

Noah, you will NOT guess what happened... :)) Okay, I'll tell you! Brandon asked me out and now I'm waiting for him at the cafe across from campus!!

She responded quickly.

(Y/N)... Is that true? I don't know how to tell you this, but Brandon's at this party I'm at. And... I'm so sorry. I'll just show you.

You clicked on the video that Noah sent you, a bit blurry at first before zooming in on two people intensely making out. Your previously rapidly beating heart ceased all of its thumping as it sunk to the bottom of your stomach.

As they pulled apart, people around them cheered and shouted. Looking around the room with the biggest grin on his face was Brandon, his ex-girlfriend Melanie clinging to his chest.

Your eyes began to water involuntarily, wondering how you could've been so stupid. Wiping them quickly, you placed some cash on your table for the nice waitress and exited the cafe. You had been so distracted by the upsetting news that you hadn't even noticed it had started to downpour.

Mud and giant puddles lining the street, there was no chance you were making it safely back to your dorm by walking. Standing under the awning, heavy rain hitting the pavement and bouncing up to soak your clothes, you weren't sure if the water under your eyes was tears from the sky or tears from you.

Headlights bathing you in sickeningly bright light caused you to break momentarily from your crying spell. A car door opened and closed as a figure holding an umbrella made their way up to you.

"You look like a wet rat," the familiar, honey-like voice joked as he stepped under the awning with you.

"Taerae?" You wondered if your teary eyes deceived you. "How did you know I was here?"

He laughed that gorgeous baritone laugh. "You know Noah can't keep her mouth shut for anything."

You wanted to laugh, but you just couldn't. Instead, you wrapped your arms around Taerae and clung on for dear life. He was a bit surprised at first, seeing as your physical affection towards him usually manifested in the form of a punch or smack. But after a moment, his arms tightened around you, one hand gently caressing the back of your head.

"It's okay," he soothed. "It's gonna be okay. You deserve so much better than him."

You just squeezed him tighter.

"He's gonna regret treating you like this."

~

Brandon and Melanie broke up again before the clock had struck midnight.

And the next day, rumors started swirling that Brandon had stood up the Chancellor's kid at the cafe across from campus.

That was apparently when Brandon first learned that the University Chancellor was your dad.

He had shown up at your dorm, knocking on the door frantically. You opened it, shocked to see the boy you had such a devastatingly huge crush on in front of you.

"(Y/N), I'm so sorry," he said, his tone a bit frantic. "I'm so sorry that I stood you up Friday night. That was absolutely horrible of me. I was so tired, I just knocked out and--."

"And sleepwalked into a party and down Melanie's throat?"

His face fell as he realized he was caught in a lie. He sighed in defeat. "I'm sorry. I wish I could go back and change it, but I can't."

You nodded. "Okay."

"If you give me one more chance, I swear I'll make it up to you," he said, hopefully.

You couldn't lie-- your heart fluttered at his words. But after that night, crying as Taerae drove you back to your dorm, you knew you couldn't agree right away. "I'll think about it."

"Awesome!" Brandon says with a grin before lowering his voice and scratching his arm awkwardly. "I, uh... I didn't know the Chancellor was your dad."

"Oh. Yeah," you replied, brow furrowing a bit suspiciously. Why did that matter to him? Why was he bringing that up now?

"You're not gonna, like... say anything to him right? About me?"

"Why would I say something to him about you?" You asked, genuinely confused as to what his thought process was.

Brandon sighed with relief. "Oh, that's so good to hear. I want to keep playing basketball, you know?"

He laughed as you stared at him disappointedly, finally understanding why he was really here. Brandon was on a sports scholarship... and he was trying to make sure you wouldn't cause him to lose it.

"I'm not gonna snitch on you," you said, nodding as the truth sunk in. "So you didn't need to come here and pretend you were sorry."

His eyes widen, panic re-setting in. "No! Oh god, no, that's not what I was doing. I really am--."

You shut the door in his face.

And you've shut the door in his face for five days now. Every day, he'd knock on your door and beg you to go out with him and, when you refused, begged you to not tell your dad what an asshole he was.

Not to mention, you couldn't enter the student union or the dining hall without hearing people whisper around you. What had become apparent to you quickly was that Brandon wasn't going to stop any time soon and neither were the rumors flying around you.

So standing outside in the courtyard with Noah and Taerae now, you consider your best friend's sentiment.

"If it'll make him stop bothering you, I'll do it," Taerae says decisively, picking at a leaf on the tree he's leaning on.

You swallow hard. "Okay."

Noah screeches. "OH MY GOD! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU? YOU'RE REALLY GONNA DATE TAERAE!?"

You stare at her incredulously. "You literally told me to!"

She huffs. "I didn't think you'd actually do it."

"Well," you say, looking at Taerae who is still doing everything he possibly can not to meet your gaze. "I think it's probably the best plan we've got."

Taerae hums. "So, when do we start?"

"Huh?" You ask, tilting your head to the side.

"When do we start dating?" He asks, finally looking at you with an awkward, dimpled smile. "Now?"

"Oh shit," Noah says, biting her lip to keep from smiling. "I think he's asking you out."

You smack her quickly, shooting her a look before turning back to Taerae. "Yeah. I guess... now."

He nods, the brightest grin spreading across his face. "Okay, let's go!"

Grabbing your hand in his, he begins dragging you across the courtyard. "Go where!?"

"On a date," he says, looking back at you. "Duh."

"Oh," you manage to reply, trying your best to keep up with his incredibly fast pace. Taerae was normally a pretty leisurely walker and you would often have to yell at him to keep up.

"People need to see us, right? Let's go to the cafe," he suggests, slowing down a bit when you both reach the sidewalk. He squeezes your hand as you make your way to the cafe across from campus-- the cafe where you were stood up only a week ago.

You stop in your tracks, a flood of worry crashing over you. Is this a good idea? What if people know we're just pretending? What if Brandon is there?

Taerae turns around when he realizes he can't pull you forward anymore. He sees it immediately-- the look in your eyes as you ponder every possible negative outcome. Placing his hands on your shoulders, he smiles at you reassuringly.

"We've got this, right? We just have to sell it," he encourages, squeezing your shoulders a couple of times to pump you up. "You think you can pretend I'm not gross for an hour?"

You laugh, shaking your head. "You're not gross, Tae. I just..."

You look at the cafe sadly, remembering how hard you had sobbed into Taerae's chest as the rain poured down around you.

"Hey," your best friend says, taking a finger and placing it below your chin; tipping it up to keep your head held high. "There's no need to be sad. I'd never stand you up."

With that, you let Taerae drag you through the doors of the cafe and into a seat at one of the tables. Right away, you can hear the whispers begin to rumble throughout the cafe. Taerae sits down across from you comfortably, just smiling back at you as if he doesn't hear a sound. You can't help but notice he hasn't really stopped smiling ever since you agreed to this silly plan.

"Oh, hi!" The waitress that had been working Friday night greets, rushing over to you. When she stops in front of your table, she stares directly at Taerae and frowns. "Don't tell me this is the guy who stood you up."

Looking around anxiously and realizing all eyes in the restaurant are on you and Taerae, you both shake your heads furiously. "No, no," you correct. "This is... This is my--."

"Boyfriend," Taerae finishes.

Both yours and the waitress's eyes widen in surprise-- the other students in the cafe now dead silent as they strain to overhear your conversation.

"You were... going on a date with someone that wasn't your boyfriend?" She asks, suspiciously.

"I wasn't at the time," Taerae clarifies quickly, before smiling at you quite cutely. "But one man's loss is another man's gain."

The sun is shining directly on Taerae through the window of the cafe, his dark eyes sparkling as they lock on yours. His brown hair appears almost golden from the warm light as it rests across his forehead-- deep smile lines in his cheeks even more charming than usual.

You shake your head quickly to clear these thoughts from your mind, looking back up at the waitress sheepishly.

"Wow," she says, nodding. "I like him. I mean, just look at the way he's looking you."

Taerae's lips part slightly as she states her observation and he looks down for a moment at his lap, his cheeks sporting a tint of crimson. He had been putting on a pretty convincing performance so far and you wonder if it's starting to get embarrassing for him...

If he's starting to regret saying yes to this.

"It's hard not to admire someone so beautiful," Taerae says softly, looking back up at you; his bottom lip tucked between his teeth.

"Okay, you have to keep him," the waitress decides with a laugh. "Now, what are you both having?"

~

The next day, Taerae took you to dinner at the Mexican restaurant near campus that you loved. The day after that, you got ice cream and sat on the swings at the public park. And the next day, you both went to the art museum with Noah to look at the new interactive Monet exhibit (Noah was pretending to try not to gag the whole time).

Each day that week, Taerae had brought you on some little adventure with him and you weren't really complaining. You adored your best friend; spending time with him was already one of your favorite things. Actually, since the start of this semester, you hadn't seen Taerae as often as you normally would after he was elected secretary of the honor society. It made you happy to have an excuse to see him so much.

Tonight, Taerae had convinced you to see a movie with him. Some action extravaganza with no plot, but he bought you a big popcorn with extra butter and a cherry icee so you didn't mind.

"Why are we seeing this movie, though?" You asked, plopping down in the theatre seat. "There's a 45th anniversary showing of Grease literally playing in the next theatre."

"Because," Taerae starts, before shoveling a handful of popcorn into his mouth, swallowing it down with his Sprite. "Brandon and his stupid friends would never go see an anniversary showing of Grease."

"Yeah, but we would," you reply, before realizing what he had just said. "Wait, what!?"

He shrugs. "If he doesn't want people to know where he's going, he shouldn't talk about it so loudly at honor society meetings."

Just then, you hear familiar, unsettlingly male laughter sounding from the entrance of the theatre. Brandon turns the corner with his friends, eyes widening in surprise when he sees you staring back at him.

Your eye contact is broken, however, when Taerae reaches over and turns your face towards him. "Open up," he says, popping a piece of popcorn in your mouth in the most sickeningly adorable way possible. "Is it good?"

You chew, completely stunned by the affectionate action, eventually swallowing and nodding back at him slowly.

"So cute," he coos, loud enough for Brandon to hear. You watch as Brandon and his friends study you curiously-- the captain himself appearing quite angry. They soon take their seats as the trailers start, but throughout the movie you notice Brandon glaring up at you and Taerae every so often.

As the credits roll, you and Taerae grab your garbage and make your way out of the theatre. Still finishing your cherry icee, Taerae takes your free hand in his and you head off together towards the doors.

"(Y/N)!" You hear someone call behind you, turning around to see Brandon running to catch up with you.

"Oh," you say as the tall boy stops in front of you. "Hey, Brandon."

"Hey, uh..." Brandon looks at Taerae, then back at you. "I keep hearing something about you dating some guy."

Suddenly, Taerae leans in and kisses you. You momentarily forget how to breathe before he pulls back and turns to Brandon. "Huh. That's so weird."

"You--," Brandon strokes his chin, smiling and shaking his head like he's in disbelief of something. "You must think you're pretty clever, huh?"

You look at Taerae confusedly, wondering what Brandon was insinuating of your friend.

Taerae just shakes his head. "No. I think that I'm not going to let anyone treat my best friend so rudely ever again."

Brandon nods, huffing a sarcastic laugh. "Yeah. I'm sure you'd never lie about anything to get your way. Right, Kim?"

"Can you please leave me alone now?" You ask finally. "Taerae's my... boyfriend now. I'm not going to tell my dad about what happened. You're not going to lose your scholarship. Let's just present our project together tomorrow and never speak to each other again."

Brandon chews his cheek, replying annoyedly, "Fine."

With that, Taerae drags you out the door and into the open air.

~

It's the fourteenth and last day of your fake relationship with Taerae. He'd set up a picnic in the courtyard with your favorite sandwiches from the deli down the street and a bunch of different snacks and salads. He held out a strawberry for you, smiling as you bit into it happily.

No one is looking at you anymore. They hadn't been for some time now. You could've called this off a few days ago, but Noah had insisted with a smirk that you "play it safe".

"This hasn't been half-bad," you say, grinning at Taerae. "I got to spend two whole weeks with my very busy best friend. Everyone stopped gossiping about me. My former crush stopped... stalking me, I guess?"

Taerae laughs. "Yeah, he was definitely stalking you," he agrees before a frown forms on his face. "I'm really sorry that happened."

You shrug. "Thanks for helping to stop it."

He sighs and you're surprised by how sad it sounds. "Well, it's--... It's the least I could do... When I'm the one who started it."

Your eyebrows furrow in confusion. "What? What do you mean you started it?"

"I--... I might've been the one that let it slip to Brandon that the Chancellor was your dad," Taerae admits, hanging his head in shame. "I'm so sorry that I didn't tell you sooner. And I'm so sorry that it created such a nuisance for you-- that Brandon would bother you like that. That you'd have to pretend to date me. But he needed to feel bad for what he did... and we both know he wasn't going to unless it could mean trouble for him."

You just smile. "A bunch of people knew about my dad, Taerae. He would've found out eventually, anyway. You just... sped up the process, I guess," you forgive with a laugh. "So that's what you meant, huh? When you said he'd regret it?"

"Wow, not to sound like a vigilante or anything," Taerae snorts, shaking his head hearing his own words recounted to him. "But seriously, who could be so stupid as to get the chance to go out with you and completely waste it? I would never--."

He cuts himself off, seemingly considering whether or not he should continue.

"You would never what?" You prompt curiously.

Taerae swallows. "I would never stop going out with you," he says softly. "If I could."

You're frozen as he speaks, only waiting for him to say more.

"If you didn't think I was gross and if this wasn't just some plan to shut up the actual guy you liked..." He nods, meeting your gaze. "I would want to keep going out with you."

Your stomach flips as your best friend since childhood says these words to you. It's not a joke. It's not part of this plan you'd concocted. It's not even a dream.

"I like you," Taerae says earnestly, hugging his knees closer to his chest as the sun starts to set. "And I'm sorry if that ruins everything."

You're not immediately sure what the right thing to say is. You lean back on your hands, fingers gripping the grass as you stare up at the sky turning pink. If you thought about it, you'd spent more time with Taerae throughout your life than almost anybody else. Your introverted, intelligent, annoying-as-all-hell best friend; one of the greatest loves of your life, alongside all of your pets and your mom. A bit of an awkward kid, he had grown up quite handsomely. Was that wrong to say? How could you think that about Taerae?

But why was your heart still racing? Surely the actual anxiety of the confession had warn off by now. But the booming thud in your chest betrays you. You had dated Taerae this whole week and not even once had you actually wished it would stop. He was cute with you, always paid for your food; he never once stood you up-- he even kissed you that one time, even if it was to show off in front of Brandon. And you never hated any of it.

Moreover, you liked it.

Had you been dating Taerae for real this whole time?

Suddenly, your phone buzzes in your pocket. You pull it out, seeing a message from your dad lighting up the screen:

What is this I hear about you and Kim Taerae dating? The kid that used to run around our house with snot hanging out his nose? Is this true?

You look over at Taerae who is now mirroring you, leaning back with his hands in the grass and gazing up at the sunset beside you. When he notices you staring, he turns to you with a shy smile that causes your heart to gently flutter.

You can't help but smile back at him, bottom lip tucked between your teeth before quickly typing a reply to your dad:

Yeah. It is. :)

Good Fool Part 2 |gaon[kwak Jiseok]

Jiseok was already on his way before you had a chance to say a word. After a few seconds of looking at his back, you made a gesture to follow him, but he was already too far ahead to catch up and you didn't even have a good enough sentence to say to him.

You sighed in frustration, maybe it would be easier if he could understand you a little. You didn't want to jeopardize his career and you felt responsible to be the prudent person in his relationship. Jiseok was a smart man, but sometimes he was too impulsive for his own good.

You closed your eyes and turned away, too. Maybe it was better that way. No matter how much you liked him, you were both out of each other's league and very few would approve of a loving relationship between the two of you. So you told yourself that it would be best to leave things as they were for now, even though you had no idea what to do from there.

After a few days, Jiseok sent you a text message apologizing for his behavior and saying that he understood that it was inappropriate. Although you were disappointed, you were at least relieved that he was talking to you to try to fix it. You decided to let it go and move on, continuing to relate to him as you had always done.

But it was different, you avoided each other, and it seemed that embarrassment outweighed any effort you or he might have made to engage in casual conversation. It wasn't like before, when you could talk and joke naturally; there was an uncomfortable tension in the air when you were together, and every time you tried to talk to him to clear things up, Jiseok always seemed to be busy or distracted.

His absence made you realize that you missed his loud laughter, his hugs, and the times you used to have together. You couldn't help but feel that something was wrong and that there was something you needed to tell him, even though you tried to move on and leave things as they were.

Finally, one day, you decided to have a face-to-face conversation with him about the situation. You went to the practice room after work to look for him, but as was becoming the custom, he was too busy to see you. Determined to talk to him no matter what, you sat down in the nearest chair and decided to wait until his practice was over, not considering that it would take him too long and you would fall asleep on your own shoulder from exhaustion.

It was after midnight when a gentle touch on your shoulder woke you up and you opened your eyes to see Jiseok's worried look. "Are you okay?" he asked quietly, trying to smile at you but looking forced and exhausted. "Why aren't you at home? You shouldn't be here alone this late."

A little embarrassed that he found you in this situation, you rubbed your eyes as you straightened up and looked around. You just blinked slowly for a few seconds, and when you felt a little more awake, you looked up at him.

"You're finally done," you mumbled as you let out a yawn. "It took you a long time."

Jiseok removed the heavy guitar case from his shoulders and carefully placed it on the floor, looking a little confused and surprised by your words. "Were you expecting me?" he asked as he raised his eyebrows at you. It was obvious from the dark circles under his eyes that he was tired. "Oh... Well, I'm sorry," he stuttered, slipping a hand into his pants pocket. "I didn't realize it had been too long...”

You stared at him in silence for a moment, trying to think of what to say and how to broach the subject that had been bothering you for so long. But now you were so tired and the urge to talk had hidden itself somewhere far away from you. Finally, you pushed yourself off the seat and, with a sleepy smile, leaned over the chair and wrapped your arms around his waist.

"Oh, you look pretty tired." Jiseok tensed a little at your touch, but he didn't move or try to move away from you. He stayed still until he let out a weary sigh and put a hand on top of your head. "Did you have a nice nap?"

"Not really," you answered truthfully, and pulled away to look at him. "Are you okay? You look tired."

Jiseok gave a weak smile and a shrug. "Yes, I am a little bit tired, but nothing that I can't handle. Want me to take you home?"

You shook your head, even though you considered telling him yes, you knew you were there for a reason.

"I'm curious about why you're avoiding me."

"I..." he started to speak, but then stopped with a sigh. He grimaced and looked down to avoid your eyes. The question took him by surprise. "It's just..." His eyes met yours and he fell silent, you could tell he wanted to say something but couldn't bring himself to.

"I'm so sorry," he whispered in the end, his voice full of regret. "It wasn't my intention to make you uncomfortable or push you away. I just got a little scared after I asked you to go out with me and I didn't know how to handle things after that."

"It's okay," you told him after you had analyzed his answer. "You don't have to apologize. I was a little scared at first, too, but that doesn't mean I rejected your declaration. I just had to make sure before I gave an answer, Jiseok. And... things will never be cleared up if we don't talk about what happened.

Jiseok raised an eyebrow in confusion and didn't try to hide the mixture of surprise and hope in his voice as he spoke. "You mean...? Wait, you... you would go out with me?"

“Well, I didn't say that," you replied with a mischievous smile.

A slight blush appeared on Jiseok's face as he frowned. He opened his mouth to speak but couldn't find the words. "But... I thought that..." he started to say, then stopped and looked away. You could tell he was unsure and frustrated by his own words. "You're mean."

You laughed a little and tapped him on the shoulder to make it clear that there was no seriousness in your words.

"You made me wait for hours and hours in that scary hallway, I had to take my revenge, don't you think?"

Jiseok relaxed his shoulders and tilted his head to the side with a broad smile as he listened to you. "Oh... you got me there." He laughed and closed his eyes with a soft sigh. "Why do I always make a fool of myself around you?"

"Mmm..." You pretended to think. "You know, many girls like foolish boys."

"Well..." A slight embarrassed blush appeared on his face as he spoke. "I didn't expect to hear that from someone like you," he admitted. "So you like stupid guys, huh? What do you think of me?"

"You're a good fool," you said with a serious and firm expression on your face, and Jiseok embellished the atmosphere with his laughter.

"Aww, thanks."

"The absolute truth."

"So, do you like me?" he asked after a pause and the nervousness in his voice showed. "Am I... in your category of foolish guys?"

Without answering, you stood up and he stepped back a little uneasily, almost dropping his guitar on the floor in the process. You both froze and looked at each other wide-eyed, surprised at each other's movements.

"Did you just walk away?"

"I... well..." Jiseok laughed awkwardly and took a step towards you. He took a deep breath and tried to find the courage to say something, but seemed to fail. His face turned redder than before and you couldn't help but notice how cute he was.

"What am I going to do with you, huh?" you wondered as you watched him for a few seconds.

Jiseok leaned his guitar back against the wall and came closer to you. There was a sparkle in his eyes when they met yours, and for a moment it was as if you had just woken up and seen daylight for the first time. You could feel the air around you getting warmer and the tension between you getting thicker.

"Why? Am I making you uncomfortable?" he murmured as he hesitantly placed a hand on your waist. His eyes slowly fell to your lips, narrowing as you moistened them with your tongue. "We don't have to have a conversation right now."

"Please, you're making me feel weird," you whispered, tempted to do more than just stare at his lips. "Why don't you do something about it?"

"My turn." Subtle and quiet, Jiseok leaned forward. His lips were close to yours and you could feel the warmth of his breath lulling them. "Is this how you like it?" he asked in a deep voice.

You closed your eyes as he applied light pressure to the corners of your mouth, repeating the motion a few times to see your reaction. When he saw that you didn't object, he pulled your lips apart and placed his in between them. Even though it was barely moving, it felt soft, moist, and docile; and it pleased you that it was only necessary for you to make a few movements for it to yield to your command without putting up any resistance.

As you continued to kiss him, a part of you regained a little consciousness. It was late in the evening, outside of working hours, but you knew that at any moment someone might be walking around in those areas of the agency. You tried to pull away and tell him about the imprudence of making out in the middle of the hallway, but any such intention fell away when you felt his hands on your hips, pulling you closer to him. You kissed him harder, until you lost track of time.

"Take me home tonight," you whispered after a moment.

"T-tonight?" Jiseok held your chin and made you tilt your head back to kiss you again, gently and naturally. He savored the moment, a soft sigh left his mouth and he pulled back a few inches to look at you. "Come on."

You asked I shall deliver. I based this one-shot on a song: Rose, by Taeyong and Seulgi. Have fun reading!

PAIRING: Swim Team Captain! Yoo Jimin X Photojournalist! Fem Reader_________________WARNINGS: College

"Will it be okay for you to fill in Ryujin's stead?" Wendy, the senior EIC of the school paper, asks with her fingers knotted atop her office desk. "She got sick two days ago. I know it's sudden, and I understand if you don't-"

"I'll do it," You tell the older girl with a polite smile, "If my memory serves me correctly - she was assigned to take pictures of the inter-school competition of our swimming team, yes?"

Wendy mirrors your smile, albeit warmer. Her posture relaxed. "Yes. Yes, Y/N. And it's this weekend."

You recount your task, "Then you're in luck, Wendy. I'm free this weekend."

The brunette heaves a sigh of relief, "Good. That will be all, Miss Choi. You can go." You bowed your head in acknowledgment before exiting her office and proceeded to the university library to meet with your friend and confidant: Yunjin, who needs a copy of your captured photos for the school paper.

"There you are," You whisper and sit next to the younger raven-haired beauty who's busy typing on her laptop. "What did Wendy want from you?" The latter inquires without tearing her eyes from the screen. "A substitute for Ryujin," You answer her as you lean next to her; eyes following the sea of words that showed events during the last competition. "Are you almost done?"

The raven-haired beauty mutters something decipherable, and you just let her be.

"Okay," She stretches her back and gestures an open palm toward you. "The USB?"

You arch a brow at her, "Please?"

She mirrors your expression, "The USB, please, Y/N?"

A teasing grin graces your lips as you fish for it in your jacket pocket and give it to her. "Jeez," The latter grumbles before plugging it into her laptop. "Where and what?"

"Here at our university. I'll be taking the pictures of our swimming team."

Finally, Yunjin tears her eyes off her screen and blinks at you. "A sports-based competition?" She muses, "That's a first."

Indeed, for years that you've been a photojournalist, you were assigned to academic-based competitions. "That means you get to see Yonsei's pride."

"Younsei's - what?"

She gives you a look, "For a journalist, you're not updated with the times here, Y/N. What would Wendy say?"

You scowl at her, "You can't blame me for being assigned to Academics, Yunjin." You brush her off, "Anyway. What about Yonsei's pride?" She curls her lips to a sardonic smile before typing away and presenting you with a photo of the team wearing Yonsei's varsity jackets and swimming trunks. There are four of them, and three of them are familiar to you: Sungchan, the first one on the right. Hyunjin is first on the left and Minjeong who's standing next to Hyunjin.

You're familiar with the three of them. All except one. A girl standing in between Minjeong and Sungchan. The girl possesses fair skin, a small face, a V-shaped jaw, big yet fierce dark brown eyes, and a lithe physique. "So the team is the pride of the university?"

"No," She zooms in the photo of the girl. "She is. That's Karina Yoo, their captain."

"She looks mean," You observed, and Yunjin chuckled, "You're not wrong."

Your jaw slacks, "Really?"

The latter hums in agreement and pauses. "A bitch is an appropriate term, bestie." You frown at her, "That's a bit too much."

She scoffs at you, "Try interacting with her this weekend, and we'll see."

"Whatever," You huffed and eyed your USB, "Are you done uploading my pictures to your folder?"

Yunjin unplugs it and places it atop the table. "Yep, thanks, girl."

PAIRING: Swim Team Captain! Yoo Jimin X Photojournalist! Fem Reader_________________WARNINGS: College

You observe the team from the bleachers with your camera in your hands as cheers ricochet against the walls of the spacious gym upon seeing your team make their appearance from the ground floor. Yonsei's team wore their signature swimsuit with the university's logo placed on the left lower front area of the men's swimming trunks, while for the women: it's located on the right upper breast of their partial bodysuit.

You're not too far to get a clear shot.

The girls of your university squealed when Sungchan flexed his toned body. Although impervious to such behavior, you can't help but admire the body of the swimmer before moving your gaze onto Minjeong, who waved at her fellow peers. Both men and women cheered for the auburn-haired girl while Hyunjin put his arm around Sungchan, who also waved to Yonsei's students.

"That's three of them," You tell yourself amongst the noise, "Where's the captain?"

As if the universe answered, she finally appeared, and you swore you were about to go deaf due to their screams and cheers amplifying.

Your eyes followed their gaze, and your jaw slacked.

Karina Yoo's photos did not do her justice; she's drop-dead gorgeous in real life, and her lithe body is just a bonus to the grace that the girl exudes. You examine the captain. She couldn't be older than twenty-three.

"KARINA! KARINA! KARINA!" The students chant as she stands beside Minjeong - awaiting their opposing team while she converses with her team by huddling them. You take it as an opportunity to take their photo.

But as you take another shot, Karina's eyes flicker in your direction.

Did she? Uncertainty and confusion seep into your thoughts as if you were shamelessly caught.

You instinctively put your camera down.

She returns her gaze to her members and continues speaking while they nod. You zoom the lens and take their photo. But this time, you don't put your camera down when Karina's sharp eyes look in your direction. There's something about her gaze that makes you fix your relaxed posture; as if she's looking through your camera, and it makes you feel small - that intense gaze of hers.

You didn't take a picture and instead put your camera down. Perhaps the captain's sharp, piercing gaze meant that was enough as she and her team moved away from each other, but she stayed next to Minjeong and leaned close to the shorter girl's ear. The auburn-haired girl's eyes flicked in your direction before saying something to the taller girl.

Paranoia creeps into your body. It's not like you have done something wrong, right? You were merely doing your job as a photojournalist for Yonsei. You tear your gaze from the pair and see the team they're competing against.

You take it as your cue to descend from the bleachers as Karina's team makes their way to their assigned benches, leaving Hyunjin alone with his competitor.

While descending from the bleachers, you can feel someone's eyes following you as you make your way to the indoor pool with your camera ready. You didn't dare look in fear of seeing that intense gaze as the referee blew his whistle for the two representatives of the opposing team, and make their way to the edge of the pool's ledge.

"On your mark!" The referee bellows, "Get set. Go!"

You ready your camera.

Sometime later, it was the captain's turn.

Your peers chant the captain's name as she made her way to the pool's ledge.

Due to your proximity to the pool's side, you locked eyes with her, and you swallowed harshly under her harsh gaze.

"Jeez," You mutter as you tear your eyes from the older girl. "What's her deal?"

"On your mark!" The referee once again bellows, "Get set. Go!"

True to her title, Karina Yoo is Yonsei's pride. And so is the other members - they won and will be competing for the nationals three months from now.

After the game, your peers went down to take pictures with the winning team. By this time, they change into dry clothes with towels draped over their shoulders, and you are standing next to the pool, checking your shots, when you hear your female colleagues scream Karina's name from behind. Out of curiosity, you look back to see a group of them running toward you - correction, you look in front to see the captain approaching them, leaving you beset on both sides.

Before you can react, one of them pushes you aside. Your eyes widen, and you instinctively put your hand where you're holding your camera up as you fall into the pool.

"Oh no!" One of the students yell as you surface up with a gasp, look at your dry camera, and sigh in relief. "Are you okay?" One of them asks as they approach you intending to help.

"Yes," You gasp, "Take the camera - be careful with it, please?" The student nods in compliance and takes your camera.

You can feel holes burning on the side of your face, and without thinking, you look to the source and see Karina standing at the edge of the pool with wide eyes, her posture stiff and rigid, as if repulsed by the sight of you violating their pool.

You flush under her gaze and reluctantly take the students' hands as they help you out of the pool and hurriedly take your camera from the other student.

"Thank you," You tell them with a flushed face as you hastily exit the gym - facing burning with shock and humiliation.

"Told you," Yunjin sneers, "A bitch."

A whine leaves your lips as you slam your head against your desk. "Shut up - at least the students helped me." It's been a week since the minor incident, and you told Yunjin after you change into dry clothes in the university dorm.

"Yeah," She snorts, "While the captain just glowers at you as if - what did you say?" She snaps her fingers, "Ah, as if you contaminated the pool." Then, she snickers. You glare at her while her lips curl to a teasing grin.

"Whatever," You poke your tongue at her, and she relents by putting her hands up in mock surrender. "Look at the bright side," Your friend counters, "At least your camera's safe."

"Yeah," You half-heartedly agree, "But I think I'm traumatized."

"Should I book your therapy?" She quips, "Oh wait, you're broke."

You scoff at her, "And? So are you." She stares at you, and you mimic her reaction before you two giggle as more students occupy the lecture hall.

"Alright, students!" The professor says aloud as soon as he enters the room. "Take your seats - we have a new student joining us this semester."

Murmurs echo while you and Yunjin share their curious looks as the older man looks at the entrance door. "Come in and introduce yourself." A familiar figure enters the room, and the class erupts with cheers and yells as Karina stands before all of you in casual wear in all-black: a cardigan with white accents, a tube top, denim jeans, and chunky sneakers, her hair is styled to a low, neat bun as she eyes the class, her gaze instantly meeting yours. You flinched and looked away from her and at Yunjin, who, in turn, looked at you. Both faces express surprise.

"The fuck?" Yunjin mutters while you return to the new student, gaping.

"I'm Karina Yoo," She announces, her voice is steely and attention-grabbing. "But most, if not all of you, know me as Yonsei's pride."

The class yells and whistles in agreement. The professor holds his palm up, and the class quiets down. "Alright," Your professor gestures a hand at the vacant seats, "Thank you, Miss Yoo. You may take any seat." The captain bows her head and ascends to the elevated rows of seats with each student eyeing her expectantly for her to sit next to them.

You quickly turn to Yunjin and grumble: "Just when I thought I'm finally free from what happened last week." She snickers at you, "Sucks to be you, my traumatized friend."

A muffled pained groan reverberates from your lips, but you quickly stiffen as the captain walks past your row and takes a sit two seats above you. You sigh in relief and return your gaze to your professor preparing his presentation.

"That bad, huh?" Yunjin observes as she takes out her laptop.

"Yeah," You whisper.

There it is again, that familiar burning feeling; as if someone's burning holes in the back of your head - it's the same feeling. But you chose to ignore it. Thirty minutes into the lecture, you couldn't ignore the feeling anymore and slowly peer over your shoulder. You almost jumped from your seat upon locking eyes with the swim captain. Her notebook lay forgotten. Instead, she was looking at you while the side of her face rested against her fist. Your skin prickles at the intensity, and you can feel your face flushing as her lips visibly curl upwards before slowly moving her gaze to the professor.

You quickly looked away from her and tried to focus on the discussion. But Professor Lee's words came and went out of your head. All you could do was mindlessly take notes and pictures of his slides and promise yourself that you'll go over your notes tonight.

It went on for days; you could've been used to it now. But you're not.

"I'm not being delusional, right?" You lock eyes with your friend, looking for reassurance. "I mean, it's not like I did something bad. I fell on the pool, for fuck's sake." You vent while the latter closes her laptop and sighs. "Have you tried asking her what's her problem?"

You give her a look, "Are you kidding me?"

The raven-haired girl shrugs nonchalantly, "I mean - if you want an answer from her, just ask her directly."

"Easier said than done," You mutter while she yawns. "I'll just ignore it, I guess? I mean, no harm, no foul, right?"

"Yeah," The latter looks at you, her relaxed expression turning serious. "But if she does something that makes you uncomfortable. Tell me immediately." On cue, the microwave dings. Dinner's ready. You're currently in her apartment; you can work together on your paper for the interschool competition due tomorrow.

"I will," You smile at her and stand from her couch to grab your dinner.

"Oh - come on!" You yell as the copies of the printed announcements; the latest news regarding the competition get whisked away by a couple of rushing students late for class. You put the other documents down on the floor, but not without putting your phone on top to ensure it doesn't fly away as you begin picking them from the floor.

"Hey," A slightly deep feminine voice calls your attention, "You missed this last one."

"Oh?" You turn around and freeze as the captain of the swimming team holds the copy for you. You gawk at her while she moves her line of sight to the paper she's holding.

"I look good in this photo," She remarks before looking at you. Her voice sounds softer this time. "Not bad for a picture taken from quite a distance."

"Thanks," You smile politely at the older girl as you grip the papers you're holding to calm your nerves. She raises her brow and gently flaps the paper. "My hand's getting tired. Aren't you going to get it?"

"Right," You stammer and wince at the sound of your voice as you tentatively take the paper from her, and the latter walks away without saying a word.

You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding as you looked at the paper she gave you before putting it with the rest. And as you continue your day, you couldn't help but replay the odd interaction you had with the captain.

"Weird," Yunjin muses as you take your designated seats for your proceeding lecture which is in ten minutes - but something's out of the ordinary.

There's a rose atop your desk with a pink ribbon tied around its stem.

The taller girl looks at you with a playful grin, "Someone's into you."

You roll your eyes at her and sit down, "Must be for another person." You say as you carefully examine the rose to ensure there's a tag - and that it's for the right person. You freeze in your seat, and Yunjin bends to read the tag in perfect handwriting and snickers. "It's yours, Y/N."

A frown creeps in your features, "But who-"

"Keep it," She shrugs and leans closer, "What else does it say?"

"Nothing,"

The raven-haired hums and takes her seat next to you. "Anyways, keep it."

You look at her with a questioning look, "Why?"

"As evidence that someone has a good eye and chose my BFF, duh?"

You let out an exasperated groan and playfully pushed her shoulder. "Oh, shut up."

Yunjin was about to say something when she closed her mouth, and her expression became guarded. You furrow your brows and slowly follow her gaze, "What's the matter-" Your words die in your throat as Karina takes her seat next to you. Your eyes widen to the point that they were about to pop out from their sockets and snap your neck in Yunjin's reaction; eyes asking for her aid.

"Karina," Yunjin softly clears her throat, "What's the sudden change of places?"

"So I can see better," She answers curtly. Yunjin arches a brow, "You don't seem to have a problem being two seats away for the past couple of days?"

You sit there awkwardly while the two exchange cold pleasantries.

Karina shifts in her seat and looks past you, "I'd like to sit here so I won't miss any key points in the professor's lecture. What's it to you?"

Yunjin opens her mouth, but you look at her, head shaking sideways.

The latter huffs, "Alright then, enjoy the view."

"Thanks," Karina monotonously replies as more students pile into the lecture hall. You look down at the rose and shrug, "Alright Yunjin," You delicately pick up the rose and insert it into your tote bag carefully. "I'll keep it, my bedside needs decorating anyway."

From the corner of your eye, you can see Karina looking at the rose before tearing her gaze as the professor enters the venue.

"Alright students, settle down and prepare your books, notebooks, laptops - whatever you need to keep notes. We'll begin shortly."

Forty minutes into the lecture, you missed the previous slide.

"Crap," You mutter, and just as you're about to ask Yunjin if she copied the previous slide, Karina slides her phone next to you.

The screen showed a picture of the slide you missed. "Here," She whispers. You blink at her while she continues to take her notes. She must've sensed your staring and sighed, "Are you going to copy that or what?"

You snap from your reverie, "Right, right. Sorry - thank you." You whispered to her and copied the slide she pictured before sliding her phone back to her but made no move to put it back in her bag.

"I saw that," Yunjin whispers, and you jump from your seat.

"Next slide - is everything okay up there, Miss Choi?" The professor calls. Your cheeks redden as all the students, including the captain, turn to look at you. Your cheeks burn, "Yes sir, sorry."

He hums, "Moving on..."

Sometime later, it was lunchtime; you and Yunjin decided to eat outside of campus.

"So Chaewon recommended this restaurant," She opens the door for you while you carry both your laptop bags, "They sell good meat here and noodles here."

"You've been mentioning her a lot," You comment as you take a vacant table. The latter makes a face at you before looking at the menu displayed above the counter, "What do you want to eat?"

"I'll take spicy chicken and jjajangmyeon."

"Cool. Sit here. I'll go order."

You open your laptop, "And I'll pay you later." The taller girl hums and goes to the counter while you work on your task. "Do my eyes deceive me?" Another feminine voice speaks from the side. You look up from your screen, "Giselle," You greet the captain of the debate team with a smile as you close your laptop. The Korean-Japanese mirrors your smile as she inserts her hands in her jacket pocket. "It's been a while, Y/N. Are you going to eat alone?"

"No," You gesture a hand towards Yunjin who looks back and sends the other a wave. "Yunjin's eating with me. How about you? Are you going to eat alone?"

The brunette shakes her head sideways, "No, I'm also going to eat with someone." The door opens, and Giselle looks back. "There you are, Karina."

You fought the urge to drop your smile as you locked eyes with the captain of the swimming team. "Giselle," The captain regards, "You invited someone for lunch too?"

"No, no." She chuckles and pats your shoulder, "This is Y/N, the photojournalist who came with us four months ago for the nationals." She then gestures a hand towards her friend, "Y/N is this-"

"Karina Yoo," You finish for her with a polite smile, "We're classmates in Professor Lee's class."

There's a look on Giselle's face that you couldn't decipher as her eyes lit up.

"Ah, I see." She looks at Karina, who seems busy looking at the menu, and then looks at the two of you. "I'll order for us."

"Alright, alright." Giselle agrees, "I'll go get us a table." Without another word, Karina left. The debate captain looks at you with a knowing smile as Yunjin arrives at your table with iced tea, "Hey, Gi." Yunjin greets her with a grin as she puts your drinks on the table. "Hey Jen," She gives you another pat, "I'll see you two around campus, yeah?"

A hum leaves your throat as you watch the latter take a sit two tables away from you and Yunjin as more people enter the restaurant. "So," Yunjin clears her throat, "Care to tell me what was Karina sharing with you during Professor Lee's class?"

You shrug and sip your beverage, "Nothing, it was just the slide I missed."

"Okay, but what about the time your documents flew away?"

A frown graces your lips, "She was just helping."

Yunjin hums, and you lean closer. "What? What is it?"

"Nothing," She nonchalantly replies, "It's just that Karina's overall mean attitude seems to tone down with you, that's all."

"Astute observation, Yunjin." You roll your eyes at her, "Maybe she's just being a decent person? We're classmates, after all."

"Oh, yeah?" She challenges, "How come she doesn't give a damn about others?"

You open your mouth, but no words come out to your defense, and Yunjin's smirk makes you close it.

"I don't know,"

"Be observant, Y/N." She clicks her tongue, "Who knows, maybe you got the Yoo privilege."

You look at her incredulously, "I beg your pardon?"

"Yoo privilege," She snickers, "You like it? I made it while I was making my astute observation, and by that, I mean you have the privilege of her toning down her attitude toward you. I mean, she could be the one who placed the rose on your desk three days ago."

You know where this conversation's going. "Are you saying that she likes me?"

"Maybe," She grins, "Observe her, Y/N. Observe how she acts with others; how she acts with you. Then you'll know."

You consider that as the waiter arrives with your order. You sense a familiar from the side of your face. You look up from your food and meet her dark brown eyes.

And this time, you didn't flinch.

You took Yunjin's advice and observed the captain.

It wasn't hard to observe her. She was never far from you, which made it easy to detect whether she was looking at you before talking to her friends.

But that still doesn't account for the roses on your desk. You tried, but with the number of deadlines piling up in journalism, you had to put your observation on pause.

"Jesus!" You snap as one of the student's coffee spills on your shirt. Murmurs echo in the hall upon witnessing an incident. "God - I'm sorry-"

"Forget it," You snap at the student as you pull the drenched fabric away from your skin and gesture for the student to go away, "Just go."

"Sorry again." The man says before awkwardly walking away while the others lose interest and walk away. "Fuck," You swore as you run your hand through your hair. "How the fuck am I supposed to go to the press conference looking like this?" You hiss as you swing your bag to the front to get your wipes. You hear footsteps approaching you and you scowl thinking it's the man who spilled coffee on you.

"Man," You sigh without looking in their direction. "You don't need to come here and-"

"Y/N," Your ears perk at the familiar tone, and you slowly turn around to face Karina standing before you with her fist securing her monogram jacquard jacket.

"Karina," You greet with slight surprise, "What are you doing here?"

She shakes her jacket, "Wear this."

"I beg your pardon?"

Instead of frowning, she keeps her face calm and uses her other hand to gesture at your shirt. "I can see the outline of - well, you know..."

You look down, and your face flushes, and with your other hand, you cover your upper body while the other takes her jacket. But you stop upon seeing the logo of her jacket, and sheepishly look at her.

"What's wrong?" She inquires. "I can't take this - it's expensive."

Karina shifts her weight on the other foot. "You'll be late for your press conference if you don't take it, Y/N." She tells you with a tone that leaves no argument. Without another word, she leaves the hall, leaving you with her jacket.

A frustrated sigh leaves your lips as you look at the expensive article of clothing before delicately donning it.

"Woah," Yunjin muses upon seeing you enter the venue. "I know that isn't yours, Y/N. Whose is it?"

"Karina's," You take a seat next to her. The latter let out a mock gasp. "Yoo privilege."

"Shut up, Yunjin."

After the conference, you stop by the EIC's office only to be greeted with roses and a freshly brewed ice latte on your desk.

"There you are!" Wendy grins as she stands next to you, "I receive our handler's feedback. You and Yunjin did a great job on the inter-school paper!"

"Yeah," You answer distractedly, "Who brought these on my desk?"

"Ah," Wendy frowns, "I didn't catch her name."

Her?

You turn to your EIC, "Can you describe her for me? What was she wearing?"

The older girl pauses in thought. "Well, she was wearing a brushed ribbed knit top, white denim jeans with a beige tag on its left pocket, and black boots."

Exactly what Karina wore when she gave you her jacket.

"I see," You mutter, and Wendy's face contorts with curiosity, "Why'd you ask?"

You brush her off, "It's nothing, thanks, Wendy."

The latter smiles, "No problem," She then turns to leave the room. "Enjoy your iced latte!"

Once the older girl is out of sight, you quickly take the rose with a tag on it, it read:

I'm rooting for you at the press conference; I hope you like iced latte to savor your victory.

-yjm

"YJM?" You move your line of sight to the iced latte, and beads of cold water slides down from the plastic cup. A smile creeps on your lips as you bring the cup's straw to your lips and take a sip, allowing the iced beverage to slide into your throat smoothly. You sigh in refreshment and place the drink on your desk. Your hands take the roses, careful from the thorns that could prick you as you study the delicate flower.

"Yunjin will hear about this."

PAIRING: Swim Team Captain! Yoo Jimin X Photojournalist! Fem Reader_________________WARNINGS: College

"No way," She cackles, "So she lent you her jacket and even sent roses and an iced latte to the office? Damn, Y/N. You won in life."

You carefully pick up the jacket and raise it, "How do I clean this?"

Yunjin takes the clothing from you, "Leave it to me. I know a place where they clean luxury clothing."

"Alright," You sigh and collapse on her couch. "Oh, and Y/N?"

"Yeah?" You answer aloud as Yunjin makes her way back to the living room. "Did you know Girl's Generation is having a concert in Gocheok Sky Dome?"

Your ears perk, and you sit up straight, "No? When?"

"Two days from now," She tells you and frowns, "You didn't know?"

You give her a look, "I'm not updated - I've been busy."

"Right," She sighs, "Why?"

"Chaewon got a ticket for me - I can give it to you if-"

"Woah, Yunjin," You stop her by grasping her shoulder. "She gave it to you. You're the one she invited to go with her. It would be rude if you gave it to someone else."

Her features remain concerned, "Are you sure? Chaewon would understand-"

"Yunjin," You exasperated a sigh, "It's fine. She invited you."

A genuine smile graces your lips. "I'll be fine. Just remember to make a fan cam for me, yeah?"

The next day, Yunjin gives you Karina's jacket: freshly cleaned and neatly pressed.

While conversing on your way to Professor Lee's class, your eyes shift to the entrance only to be greeted by Karina leaning her back against the wall next to the door.

"Oh shit," Yunjin snickers quietly, and you nudge her by the elbow. "Sh,"

"Karina!" You call out and was about to give her jacket back when she cuts you off. "Just give it to me after Professor Lee's class."

Confused, but you comply as she enters the room. You and Yunjin follow suit as your peers begin to fill the lecture hall.

While the older man is discussing, Karina slides next to you, startling you with a jump as she ducks her head and drops her voice an octave lower. "I have something for you after class. Is it okay if we remain after everyone else left?"

You tear your eyes from the presentation to look at her. Your cheeks heat up as you meet Karina's soft, warm gaze, but her attractive face swims with uncertainty at your would-be reply.

A soft smile creeps on your lips, "Sure, Karina. What is it anyway?"

Her features soften, and surprise etches on your face as her lips quirk to a playful smile. That's a first.

"It's a surprise," She winks before returning to her original position.

You gape at her, surprised by this new side of her. You can't wait to know what she has in store for you after Mr. Lee's class.

Fifty minutes later, the older gentleman dismisses the class. Everyone left except for you, Karina, and Yunjin.

"You go first," You tell the raven-haired girl. Yunjin flashes you a grin before getting her bag, but not without whispering: "Yoo privilege" against your ear before leaving.

You huff at the latter as you get the paper bag containing Karina's jacket and hand it to her. "Here you go, Karina."

The older girl looks at the paper bag and smiles. "Can you stand up?"

How odd, "Sure."

You comply with her innocent request and hand the bag to her. "Here you go,"

Her lips tugged to a downward smile and retrieves the bag. "Thanks, Y/N."

You let out a hum while you two stand in silence. A sigh leaves the older girl's lips before she laughs lightly - and it sounds pleasant like chimes in the wind.

"Ah - this is not what I envisioned it." She guffaws and scratches her nape. You can't help but chuckle at the older girl's disposition. "Take your time," You assure the raven-haired beauty as she inhales sharply. Is she new to this? How adorable, you thought to yourself as she closes her eyes and puffs her cheeks.

"Ok," She opens them and clears her throat. "I'm afraid that I've made a bad impression when we first met, Y/N." She sighs, "Which is why I'm going to change that tomorrow."

Tomorrow? What does she mean?

On cue, she brings out a bouquet - well not really. More like two tickets wrapped in pink silk with a pastel ribbon secured around it.

"I hope you like concerts, Y/N. Especially Girl's Generation."

My, did your heart skip a beat?

"Will you be my date for the concert, Y/N Choi?"

"Yes," You breathe, and Karina's smile morphs into a delighted grin.

"You just made me the happiest girl, Y/N."
