Writing tip #137: when writing long-form fiction, make sure your protagonist’s goal requires multiple steps to achieve. A sense of progress is important to avoid irritating the hell out of your audience; if whatever the protagonist is trying to do is something that could be accomplished immediately were it not for an endless series of sidetracks, obstacles and interruptions that coincidentally keep popping up just as they’re about to do it, you can only keep the clown parade going for so long before you hit your readers’ for-fuck’s-sake threshold – and it’s a lower threshold than you think!
I know that this isn’t particularly Game Grumps related, but this needs to be put out there. Fans tend to see a YouTuber’s girlfriend as such and not an individual person. This needs to stop. Also, the habit of using said S/O to reach out to the YouTuber they’re dating needs to stop as well.
