there is nothing more biblical than killing a brother. except for, maybe, loving that brother to and across and despite his death. the divine space of boyhood, of being boys together. having co-emeged with the same woman in the same womb is a particular kind of relationality. it yields, i think, the same kind of lack. but not all siblings are biological, and fictive kingship was just as strong a tether in the ancient near east as blood. not all siblings are masculine, either: girlhood and sisterhood in the bible is less about death, sure, but no less deadly
