Summary: The aftermath of the bombings bring about some unexpected arrivals and Y/N has a big decision to make after Gwil`s proposal. 

A/N: Joe is back! the angst! I cannot thank everyone for their wonderful feedback, it is really fueling me to churn this chapters out because I love writing this story. Feedback and comments are appreciated and welcome so let me know where you want the story to go!

“Gwilym…I-” you are shocked by his proposal, “you don`t know what you are saying, you just got out of surgery” you shake your head.

He reaches out for your hand and tries to sit up, hissing in pain.

“Careful” you tut and lean over to help him adjust his pillow, mindful of his injured leg.

“Y/N, I know we haven`t known each other for a long time and I aware your heart is torn in two but I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and I will always be there, no matter how hard it gets, because I simply cannot survive without you beside me” his blue eyes meet yours and you look at your joined hands in order to avoid his gaze.

“But what about my family? Where would we live? It`s so complicated” you pull your hand away and hang your head, bringing your hands up to rub your temples.

“You`d live with me in England. I own a house and your family are welcome to attend our wedding and visit whenever they please. We can also visit Brooklyn whenever you want but like I said, I want spend the rest of my life with you and today has shown me that life is too short, especially with this war” 

“I need to think about it” you tell him, trying to absorb his loving words.

“Take all the time you need love, I`m not going anywhere” he gestures to his leg and you roll your eyes with a smile. 

“I`ll let Lucy know you are awake” you get up and head out of the room, glancing back at Gwil one more time, his oceanic eyes still watching you.

“Everything okay sweetie?” Lucy comes over when she spots you exiting Gwil`s room.

“He`s awake” you inform her.

“Brilliant! How is he?” she claps her hands together and calls over the doctor to check on Gwil.

“He asked me to marry him” you whisper.

“No way! What did you say?” she gasps.

“I said I needed to think about it” 

“Well of course, it is a big decision and you haven`t known each other a long time but Y/N, you could`ve died today and it`s a miracle you got out without so much as a scratch. He would`ve been dead if it weren`t for you” she tells you.

“I know, I really like him, I might even be falling for him but-” your hands shake and she grips onto them to center you.

“Joe” her face is sympathetic and you nod.

“Go back to our room, get some sleep and I`ll let Sergeant Lee know you went off to rest” 

“Thanks Lucy” you squeeze her hands and head back to your room.

As you walk across the base, you shudder as your eyes scan the bombed buildings, the rubble still smoking and you pause, realizing that you could`ve died earlier. It seems like minutes since it happened but it was hours ago and you shiver at the prospect of such a close encounter with death.

Lost in your thoughts, you didn`t notice the US Army Jeep roll into the base, speeding along until it slides to a stop in front of the infirmary. 

Joe jumps out of the Jeep and runs into the medical center, rushing up to the first nurse he sees.

“Is Y/N Y/L/N here?” he frantically asks a blonde nurse who looks shocked at his sudden appearance.
