There Are So Many Fun Disaster Twins Parallels I Caught The Last Time I Binged Rise
There are so many fun Disaster Twins parallels I caught the last time I binged Rise
I’m mainly going to start with lines before I get into some deeper stuff in part two, but as far as I’ve seen this pair seems to have the most parallels and I love it
Both the sillies have a line about sounding naturally sarcastic: “And I know everything I say sounds sarcastic, but I’m being completely genuine… This time.”
“Oh sure, let me just load my Tap Into Every Security Camera in New York app! I’m sorry if that sounded like sarcasm it wasn’t I am in.”
They both land on Warren in his first episode 😂

Donnie teasing his brothers and hitting them with the tennis balls all smug in Smart Lair feels very Leo of him

Leo being the naysayer of the group in The Gumbus and constantly insisting there has to be some kind of logical/scientific explanation is very Donnie of him
“There has to be a simple answer. Earthquake, magnets, giant prankster mice. There’s no such thing as ghosts!” “A model train. Simple answer.” “Aha! Right? The simple answer!”
Donnie has a funny line about Dragons (and their teeth) not existing, both these moments being ironic since discovering yokai, the Hidden City and the whole mystics world makes dragons and ghosts not just possible, but proven real

Their iconic weird showing-off-clothes poses in Purple Jacket and Late Fee

These lines:
“Can’t we get new brothers?!”
“We have to go back for our brothers! Or are you gonna replace them, too?!”
“Guh-ee…”

They are also the only two characters with lines mentioning they think Splinter would’ve been cooler specifically as a tiger 😂 While I love the Eric Bauza/Tigerclaw references to ‘12, otherwise the comments are rather random other than saying tigers are cooler than rats. It made me realize how much they really do think alike. “You’re just a rat, we need a tiger.” “Yeah sure you’re a rat and it probably would’ve been cooler if you were like a tiger or something.”
More similar lines when they both break the fourth wall: “One season later and I still have fully battery!” “If this isn’t the poster shot, someone’s getting fired.”
Leo’s chosen last words: “With my last breath I told you sooooo!”
Donnie’s chosen last words: “At least I shall perish knowing I was the better brother.” (a lie)
I believe they’re also the only ones to call Splinter Papa whereas Raph and Mikey use ‘Pops’ more

And last but not least, their shared aversion to Staten Island

Bottom line, the rottmnt writers practically made their twinship canon without realizing it sooo it’s pretty much undeniable now 😊

NEXT AU ON THE BRAIN
Chasing Shadows (named after the song)

(essentially the entire plot) (did not expect to be able to draw Kraang first try ajgbksjrgbksg)
(oh erm , this is also not one with a happy ending)
Leo survives the final attack of the Kraang, and salvages a single old Walkman having belonged to Donnie, as well as the Resistance Karaoke machine, containing all the recordings of their singing and cheesy songs.
Now he runs across the ruined world, surviving purely to spite of the Kraang. And to keep alive the spirit of the resistance in this timeline.

(a little concept art doodle) (I like drawing snow :))
eventually he is hunted down and captured. And becomes a prisoner aboard the techno drome. A living trophy of the Kraang's victory over the planet. There he discovers Donnie has become the Technodrome.
It is customary for the Kraang to appoint the greatest mind of their most recent conquest as the new mind of the Technodrome. Slowly, he gets Donnie to remember who he is, Leo's twin, his brother, his family. They plot to escape togehter.
This meaning, Donnie is uploaded into Leo's Walkman. Like GladOs into the potato. Supercomputer put into silly tech is my favorite thing okay.
The ending... not very happy I am afraid. they make one last trip, when they decide to journey back home. After a long journey, they arrive at their original sewer home, Leo severely wounded stumbles into the ruins of the lair. Where they record one last song on the Walkman together, the last voices of the resistance.
welp! That's it :) there is a THIRD Au- but If I draw that my hand WILL fall off
Here-> Life is strange AU
(Please tell me if you would like to see more of this AU because I will give the internet strangers what they want, they live in my walls)
I can’t risk it

For those of you confused, Donnie lost his tech Bo in part two of the season two finale, Shreddy or Not, in the same episode that the other turtles lost their weapons.
Now, he didn’t have a grand “oh no!” Scene for his breaking, mostly because it wasn’t mystic and it wouldn’t hold as much of an influence as the other boy’s did, because their weapons were quite literally irreplaceable. Like sure, it would be tedious, but Donnie could’ve made his tech Bo again. The boys, however, couldn’t replicate their mystic weapons if they tried, not without the help of someone in the hidden city. And may I remind you that last time they went there, they literally ALL (except for Mikey and Splinter) got thrown in jail.

As you can see in this scene (sorry for the quality), which takes place within the last minute of Shreddy or Not, Donnie still has his tech Bo! This takes place after the turtles have all lost their weapons and are evacuating the lair.
With Leo trying to stay behind and Raph focusing on getting Leo out, there’s nobody to focus on the fact that the lair is literally falling apart around them. Nobody but Donnie, of course.
The pole above their head, keeping the rubble from falling onto them and crushing them, that’s Donnie’s tech bo. And as we can see a few scenes later,

It isn’t doing too well.
A few seconds later, and it is crushed underneath the rubble of their home. Unfortunate, really.
As for why Donnie kept his normal Bo staff (which he got in the next episode from a rake that Todd gave him, but that’s a talk for another day), I presume that is was ease.
Using the normal bo staff combined with his ninpo, he could do everything his tech bo could do and more. He could add onto it and use it as he liked, and all he had to do was think of it.
Also think about time, and how the movie fits in with the series. According to the people who made rise, the movie only takes place a couple of months after the series finale of the show. They must’ve spent a long time between then moving in to their new home, or just making their abandoned subway station livable. While doing this, they would’ve also had to keep up with whatever shenanigans were going on in New York, like the villains and whatever they got up to, and probably keeping Cassandra in check.
I also have a hunch that, with him not understanding mystics and not having a mystic weapon before, Donnie would want to study how it works. Although he originally didn’t like mystics, I think he would be at least a little curious about this ancient mystic art that’s been passed down by his family for centuries that he had no clue about. Just a hunch.
Uh. Anyways thanks for letting me infodump, I like to watch this show really hard.
It took me way too long to realize but I cannot tell you how devastated I was when I found out Donnie had a normal Bo-Staff in the movie

Like imagine how upset S1 Donnie would be
