hello hello, here's a disclaimer nobody but my own peace of mind asked for: please don't take the things on this blog as irrefutable fact.

first, i might and already have made errors myself on basic facts that aren't even subjective. a few months ago someone let me know that it's likely a myth that alexander jr was eliza jumel's divorce attorney. i'm sure things like that will happen again.

second, i am not a historian or anywhere near qualified to even say amateur historian - just a random student who happens to have read enough analysis and relevant sources to have a general sense of events and common arguments. and to offer my own takes or judgements.

you might notice how i try my best to say "certain academics/many academics argue that ham did ___ because" instead of "ham did ___ because".

this doesn't apply for my meme posts where i make such bold academic statements like "ham went ape shit" but hopefully we already know not to take memes seriously.

i do this because of my own lack of expertise but also because i think it's generally a bad idea to approach historical analysis as either 100% correct or incorrect. historians offer different, thoughtful, well-argued takes on the same events, people, etc: that's what it's all about.

don't get me wrong, we can make judgements about what conclusion we find more likely, and i do that on this blog. but i don't want someone to read something i post and leave with the impression of "yes this is exactly why this happened" or something like that. we don't know! we can't get into people's heads. there are widely-accepted narratives, analyses, etc. but even those are constantly being brought back into discussion.

and of course i want to say that i post things on this public blog so that people can add on! pls don't hesitate to disagree or question something i say! that's what makes this all interesting :)

the real tragedy isn't that we don't know for sure what the old white men looked like, it's that we don't know what their voices were like. "strong" "pleasing" okay bitch i want to know exactly how obnoxious adams sounded and i want to hear him read his own letters out loud like an audiobook so where do we go from here
