hi i just sped read the entirety of skywriting by word of mouth to find this bJFAD but here's the post about it i found out about it from

it's a short story in skywriting by word of mouth (on archive.org here! i don't know if multiple people can borrow it once though and i have it borrowed rn so sorry rip). the whole thing has some EXTREMELY eyebrow raising moments (like one where he says "i was born to boogie your sweet self right back into the real nitty-gritty dirt band on the run sue you sue me" like..... okay! or one where he talks about a man getting down on his knees and "giving cunnilingus" to his boots & then he comes in the man's mouth. okay!) so honestly i would highly recommend just speed reading like i did bc it's. insane.

but the story shows up on page 171 and is titled "the importance of being erstwhile" and continued in "never cross a horse with a loose woman"

and ontooooo the actual story below the cut!

so... some lovers meet in paris at the hotel he & paul stayed at & proceed to fuck to god only knows (paul's favorite song). it's full of references to gay culture & being gay. "neither of them held each other down; in fact, they took it in turns" right so. they switched. sure. "they spent three happy months together and parted in a seething rage"

and just. "to this day, his memories of her are clear and fresh. like a force-fed baby, he'll never foget, and neither, i hope, will she. the eternal flame of love burned the bottom out of their relationship ahoy!"

anyway this is all insane and this whole book gave me new brands of mental illness so thanks john, for that

edit: also just realized "the importance of being erstwhile" is a play on oscar wilde. which could also mean nothing.
