You wanna know what happens when you're starving?
Your hair gets thin and limp. Noticeably. You donât have enough nutrients to help it stay healthy.
You get so. Fucking. Cold. All the time. People donât want to touch you, because youâre so cold. Youâll be shivering under a blanket, in a hot tub, by a fire, wherever you are.
Youâve heard that seeing food will be upsetting? You have no idea. Even if itâs nowhere near you, or on a screen, or in the hands of a stranger, youâll resent it because you want it. Some nights youâll start crying because you miss it so much.
Everything will become numbers. You arenât just walking your dog anymore, youâre counting the minutes and calories youâre burning. You arenât enjoying a warm day, youâre trying to figure out if the higher temperatures are making your heart rate go up so you burn faster.
Your social life will die. Youâll be skittish and avoid people when they have food in case they offer some. Youâll say no to parties and dates and meet-ups because you think there might be food. Youâll grow paranoid, terrified of people finding out. Youâll start to despise people who love you solely because they want to help.
Youâll hurt. That pang in your chest? Itâs probably because youâre not eating. Your stomach? Say goodbye to its silence. Your butt? Itâll hurt whenever you sit down. Youâll get headaches, heart pains, even breathing will eventually become exhausting.
And eventually, youâll die. Maybe you ate more than usual and couldnât handle the thought of gaining, and exercised so much that your heart overexerted itself. Maybe you actually did gain, and that enough was enough to make you swallow a handful of pills. Maybe your blood pressure lowered to fatal levels, or maybe you passed out and hit your head on a table.
It all ends the same.
Donât let the âpro anaâsâ fool you, this isnât a glamorous lifestyle. This is a deadly and painful illness.
I feel like a lot of people need to remember that before they skip their meals.
Donât do this to yourselves, you gorgeous humans. You deserve to live. You deserve friends. You deserve love.
You deserve to eat.
WHAT NOBODY TELLS YOU ABOUT FASTING
For gum chewers: Nobody tells you that you will expel a storm of wind out of nowhere or whenever you drink water.
Nobody tells you that your legs will feel like literal jello if you go past 24hrs.
Nobody tells you that after a certain point youâll have a constant headache.
Nobody tells you that your stomach will growl loud enough for a whole room of people to hear.
Nobody tells you about the pain in your ribs.
Nobody tells you that youâre going to feel like youâre going vomit the lack of anything in your stomach.
But what we do tell you, is that youâll get used to it.
How I lost 42 pounds
Sleep is one of the most important things when it comes to weight loss! I ALWAYS binge if I donât get enough sleep. Not only because Iâm awake for a longer period of time, but also because my body gets hungrier(since Iâm depleted from the energy that comes from sleep). I usually aim to sleep 9-10 hours a night! Itâs difficult to go to sleep early at first, but your body adjusts to it. I lose the most weight when I sleep well!!!
If possible, Iâll exercise first thing in the morning (before eating) because instead of burning off calories from food you ate, youâre going into your stored fat and breaking that down.
I also have to eat in the morning (usually something small like a cup of fruit or an egg) because if I donât, my stomach will be growling like crazy by 8am!!! People do not think youâre okay and will start to ask questions if your stomach is constantly growling!!!
I skip lunch and eat dinner at 7pm. I lay in bed right after dinner and Iâm asleep by 9:30pm. The later you stay up, the hungrier youâll get!!!
DRINK. WATER.
If possible, let yourself have mini binges. Iâll restrict to 300 calories a day, but on Fridays Iâll let myself eat up to 700 calories. It helps stop cravings and makes it so I donât binge as often.
Iâm not a huge fan of fasting. They do work, but the symptoms can be unpredictable. I can sometimes do a 48 hour fast and feel okay. Other days I do a 28 hour fast and get super sick.
Dealing with nausea: I get super nauseous from time to time, usually in the morning. Eating a bit of food helps to take it away. Fruit helps me feel better because of the sugar. Sometimes Iâll put some salt on my finger and have that.
Please be patient with yourself. You will not always see immediate results. Youâll hit plateaus. Youâll binge. Youâll retain water. But you WILL lose the fat and you will be so glad that you did(: remember that everyone is different and what worked for me might not work for you.
