It is very odd to me when some people downplay what Harry went through with Dudley like Harry hunting pre-Hogwarts because Harry “baits him.” There are explicit parallels in the text between Harry empathizing with Snape after seeing SWM as he “knew how it felt to be humiliated” and the recounting of general humiliation both during SS and during Occlumency lessons.

Here is a friendly reminder that abuse victims don’t need to be “perfect” for their abuse to be valid and they can cope with it in different ways.

I will add that not only in HP is a snake the symbol of Slytherin but in Christianity it symbolizes giving into temptation for evil and in indigenous cultures it represents rebirth and renewal. It really fits into his story imo-his patronous being a snake because he gave into the temptation of power as a teen to only experience reformity or in the case of the snake’s meaning-rebirth and renewal as a spy who worked in the shadows to take down the group he was once part of for nearly two decades.

What do you think Snape's patronus would've been, before it became a doe? I like a bat, to keep up with the theme set up in Philosopher's Stone.

I assumed it was always a doe - although I think the implication with the Tonks' scene is that it was not.

I just really like the idea of this cruel, vicious man creating a Patronus of this beauty. There is also the fact that he seems to associate with mothers of the series - Lily, Narcissa and identifies specifically with his own mother. So a Patronus before this would have similar symbolism for me?

Classic Sirius-he’d be the one to tell Dumbledore in GOF “served her right”

Listening to the GoF audiobook, for the umpteenth time, and I’ve had a thought …

Bertha Jorkins in the pensieve telling Dumbledore -

‘He put a hex on me, Professor Dumbledore, and I was only teasing him, sir, I only said I'd seen him kissing Florence behind the greenhouses last Thursday...’

Surely has to be about Sirius, it tallys too well will Sirius’s (somewhat irritable) remarks about her -

‘Listen, I knew Bertha Jorkins. She was at Hogwarts when I was, a few years above your dad and me. And she was an idiot. Very nosy, but no brains, none at all.’

‘Maybe she's changed since I knew her, but the Bertha I knew wasn't forgetful at all - quite the reverse. She was a bit dim, but she had an excellent memory for gossip. It used to get her into a lot of trouble, she never knew when to keep her mouth shut.’

And the fact that Dumbledore so readily bought this particular memory of her up 😂 … all I can think of now is Sirius, in his GoF state, having an intense discussion with Dumbledore about the strange things going on, the disappearances, what could have happened to Bertha Jorkins … and Dumbledore just whips this old memory out

Albania is way too small in the HP world. 

The Bloody Baron tracked down Helena Ravenclaw in an Albanian forest with no problem. 

Voldemort finds Ravenclaw’s diadem in an Albanian forest with no problem.

Peter finds Voldemort in an Albanian forest with no problem.

Bertha Jorkins who’s literally on holiday in Albania somehow is close enough to Peter in the same forest.

Quirrel also ran into Voldemort in an Albanian forest

Like…how is this forest so small that anyone can run into each other?? Also there is more than one forest in Albania. How are they all ending up in the same one? They’re all going to a park and just calling it a forest to look cool.
