Request: I always liked Kiba! Saw you asked for Naruto requests so maybe some Kiba fluff after or during the shit its been almost ten years since ive seen it but the challenge thing they do as a test where he almost dies? To help with a scenario maybe reader gets mad at him for it and confesses their feelings because they were afraid they had lost him for a moment? 😄

“Is Kiba gonna be okay?” You asked, fiddling your thumbs together as you glanced up at Kurenai-sensei. She smiled down at you, giving you a reassuring nod.

Letting her hand fall on top of your head, Kurenai bent slightly so she was at your viewpoint. “Kiba will fine, Y/N,” she said, eyes crinkling in with delight. “I imagine I can leave you in his care? I should get back and watch Hinata’s and Shino’s matches.”

You nodded, giving a hesitant but small smile. Kurenai wasn’t oblivious to the way your eyes stayed solely focused on Kiba. Smiling softly down at you, Kurenai begun walking off; “I leave him in your care.”

Not really noticing that Kurenai had left, you made your way over to Kiba’s bedside, sitting down in the provided chair. Given that your fight was already over, you could stay here as long as Kiba needed (or until someone kicked you out). You were happy for Naruto, you really were, but… you really wanted Kiba to win. Especially because you had! So that you could be in the finals together…

Sighing, you let your eyes wander across the damage down to Kiba and of course, Akamaru. You reached over, picking up the little fluff before softly setting him down in your lap. Akamaru mewed in enjoyment as you did so, cuddling in closer to your stomach and you let a, meaningful, smile dawn on your lips.

A soft groan pulled your attention away from Akamaru and onto the waking form of Kiba. You immediately straightened out in your seat, eager to make sure Kiba was okay. His eyes slowly blinked out, lips parting as he let out soft groans before focusing on what was before him. “Y/N…?”

“Yeah,” you mumbled, glancing down at your lap. “It’s me.”

“What are you doing here?” Kiba asked, pushing himself up so he was in a seated position. “Where are we… What happened?”

“You got hurt is what happened, Kiba,” you huffed, shaking your head.

Kiba glanced at you, not missing the snappy tone included within your sentence. Furrowing his brows, Kiba opened his mouth; “I figured that…” He sighed, “I meant, did I lose?”

“Yes, you did.” You nodded, finally meeting his eyes. “And thank God! If you had kept going the way you had, Naruto would’ve done a lot more damage then just that.”

“Pff,” Kiba scoffed, cheeks tinting a red as he glanced the other way. “Naruto couldn’t hurt a fly.”

“Yeah?” You questioned, raising a brow. You leaned forward, careful of Akamaru who was peacefully asleep on your lap. “Well not only did he hurt you, but he hurt Akamaru too. You were reckless, Kiba. And it got the both of you in danger.”

Kiba remained silent for a moment, pouting before he mumbled; “where’s Kurenai? Shino? Hinata?”

“At the preliminaries. Doing their matches.”

“Ah.”

“Kiba,” you snapped, glaring at him. “You can’t ignore this. I was worried sick! Do you understand that? Don’t you care?”

“Of course I care!”

“If you cared, then you wouldn’t have thrown yourself in danger like that!” You screeched back, “Jesus, Kiba! Do you ever think before you do any thi-?”

“I was trying to win for you!”

You parted lips, ready to yell more of your anger out, fell silent, your back slumping as Kiba’s words seemingly registered within you. “I-… what?”

“I was trying to win for you,” Kiba remembered, mumbling now. “Not because I was jealous - you got in, I didn’t. No. Because I wanted you to be proud of me. To have something to be proud of.”

Oh…

Sighing, you softly set Akamaru down on the bed before reaching over and grabbing Kiba’s hand. Meeting his eyes, you shook your head. “I’m already proud of you, Kiba. You don’t need to get yourself killed for me to be proud.”

“I know… I just-”

“Promise me,” you interrupted, smiling softly. “You won’t try to impress me anymore. I’m already impressed.”

“…”

“Kiba.”

“Okay,” he sighed, slumping. “I promise.”

“Good.”

🤍 It started with him being late. He’s always late. You can be pretty patient, after all you understood he had students and missions demanding his attention. But you can only be stood up a handful of times before eventually getting tired of it. Planning dates was half-hearted seeing as he couldn’t give the effort to be on time.

🤍 Next was his insecurity. You knew he was convincing himself he doesn’t deserve someone like you. Whenever you talked to someone else, he immediately jumps to thoughts on how you’ll be happier with them. You try to assure him you only want him but eventually, he was pushing you away, hurting but wanting you to fall for someone other than him.

🤍Then it was his fear. He feared losing you due to the dangers of the shinobi lifestyle. He lost so many, it wouldn’t be surprising he’d lose you too, wouldn’t it? And what would happen to you if he died? Keeping you an arm’s length away is for the best, for both of you. Unconsciously or not, he’ll fight his own heart from getting too comfortable with you, even if you’re already together.
