if Horikoshi won’t do it, I will

He can’t just establish “quirks are physical abilities that have effects on the body” and then just apparently forget it, so I’m making headcanons out of spite.

Danger Sense: Overuse causes migraines, hypervigilance, and anxiety, which Midoriya did not ask for more of those, thank you. Serious whump potential, especially since he’s living a mentally and physically exhausting transient lifestyle (aka dude’s a homeless vigilante on the run).

Blackwhip: Causes constriction and pain in the parts of the body the whips are coming from, which increases based on how much weight he’s pulling with them. He usually has them come from his arms and hands, but if he uses them too much from one area, it becomes cramped and has less blood flow, affecting his dexterity and precision with both the whips and the movement of the actual limb or body part.

Smokescreen: Since Horikoshi didn’t have the nerve to make him show more skin, like Midnight, and he is so insistent that she “needs” to show skin to produce gas from her skin, and it’d be boring if clouds just appeared around him from nowhere, Midoriya has to breathe out the smoke! The amount he produces with each breath is not 1:1 to his lung capacity since OFA powered it up. It’s magically non-toxic and magically doesn’t choke him, but overuse causes coughing and shortness of breath.

Float: Reduces his weight to lighter-than-air and allows him to pull his mass in any direction, but the acceleration of this movement is very slow, so he has to use jumps and air blasts to move quickly and change direction. Overuse causes vertigo and physical disorientation.
