i actually like the tsukumos but i have a soft spot for all tsukumogami bc of their weird relationship with humanity as beings specifically formed by genuine animosity against humans (unlike regular youkai who basically only scare humans because it's what they do) and i think raiko & the tsukumos stand as interesting examples of that by being newborn and not fully realised; but unfortunately raiko is the standout example of it because she actually, like, does stuff

to clarify both a regular youkai and a tsukumogami have the concept of "attacking (potentially killing) humans" as part of their nature but a youkai would kill someone for reasons that are functionally incompatible with human logic (it's just a thing they do sometimes) whereas a tsukumogami's reason for killing someone is fundamentally realisable - that is that deep down, they simply hate you and want you to die. i also think it's interesting though that tsukumogami seem to be the ones who want to align themselves with humans the most; that is, despite the hatred of the unneeded, they are still tools who want to be used
