That morrowind gun post just reminded me of a bizarre dream I had where someone was apparently wearing a Fargoth memorial shirt.

So forgive me, if this has been touched upon before in soulsborne lore and world building discussions, but i love how the broken and twisted dogs and the broken and twisted human societies are directly related to one another.

Dogs are intrinsically linked to humanity. We have tamed them utterly and completely, changed their very forms. Dogs as we know them can not exist without us.

The broken state of the human societies in fromsoft's soulsborne and elden ring titles is reflected perfectly in the dogs the npcs keep. Dark Souls dogs are hollowed like their masters. Elden Ring dogs are emaciated and their forms change depending on where they are: Rot infested, covered in bleeding wounds, or twisted into horrific shapes. Bloodborne dogs are some of the more "dog" looking yet are completely rabid.

In contrast, wolves in these games are usually completely untouched, and just as beautiful as ever because they are not tied to humanity.

I just think its a neat bit of world building.
