Batman: he took one look at the pit cried "I must drink the forbidden kool-aid" and stuck his head in.

Jazz: I would ask why you didn't stop him but he can turn intangible so that's a mout point.

Batman: it's also why we can't get him out of here.

Jazz: so he's just been up there? for how long?

Batman: 8 hours. He has windows of being sober but he keeps drinking from the pit before we can convince him to leave.

Jazz: Why does he have a batarang?

Red Hood: Batman used his dad voice on him the second time he drunk from the pit and he started crying. It was the only thing that got him to stop.

Jazz tired sigh: okay I got this *smiles and uses a tone of voice normal saved for very little kids* Danny!

Danny: Jazz! :D

Jazz: what are doing up there?

Danny: I'm a balloooooon

Jazz: I see. Have you had dinner yet?

Danny: Noooope just some coookies. Red Hood is the bestest hero. He gave me cookies. And, and dis, dis thingy he took from Batman. Batman scary. He's a scary... scary... bat

Jazz: well Nasty burger is going to close soon and you know what happens when Nasty burger closes before you have dinner?

the thing about cracking open a long-established popular ship tag on ao3 is that it allows you to be extraordinarily picky, and i think it must be the closest thing i will ever experience to being filthy rich. i scroll along at super speed like no today i am only interested in fics with this precise range of words and one of these three tags. only authors i’ve heard of, please. hmm, i suppose i could consider an unknown quantity given its apparent popularity with the people, but… no, no, this summary doesn’t do it for me. no particular reason, it’s just… eh, i don’t need to explain myself. bring me 50 more like this for me to choose from and we’ll see.

it's just a little interesting that people love genuinely kind and good hearted characters but somehow batmans unwavering belief that people can be better and people can be changed is not enough? even characters within the same media are praised and respected for being the bigger hero and choosing to save rather than to hurt and yet bruce's no-kill rule is often a point of ridicule for his character.

what is so wrong with having a immensely complicated character have slightly less complicated morals about empathy? for a character who loves and hurts and loses why is this something so unbelievably unrealistic for a hero to believe in. what is outlandish about people being people before they are a product of their misfortunes?

of course it isn't a perfect mindset, it isn't even a healthy one in a lot of cases — but it is something that has stayed true to its mission and so i think it deserves a little more thinking before being dragged around as lazy writing.

I AM GOING TO THROW UP FROM FEELINGS, Dick finding a young kid hiding after their parents were murdered and the kid running to him to desperately cling to him for comfort, immediately reminding Dick of when he did the same thing to Bruce after his own parents’ murder, the way Bruce wrapped his arms around this hurting kid, one hand gently cradling his head, sharing his pain. That this moment stays with Dick, is what drives him to help others, what drives him to share the pain of this kid, what drives him to embrace hope every single day of his life, because Bruce saved him with that hug, with that shared grief and loss. WHATEVER MISTAKES BRUCE MADE, HE LOVED THAT KID SO MUCH AND UNDERSTOOD THAT PAIN AND THAT SAVED DICK GRAYSON, AND I AM EMOTIONAL ABOUT IT.

being a fan of a character is sometimes “look at how complex he is. he’s so intricate and his story is so tragic and he’s so much more complicated than people give him credit for” and sometimes it’s like “haha look at this failure of a person. I wanna throw him off a cliff and see what happens”

Data isn't even a word to me that's just his name. I hear someone say data in a sentence and I think of him. "Collecting data" is when you go and get him

I recently had surgery, and at the time I came home, I had both my cat and one of my grandma's cats staying with me.

- Within hours of surgery, I wake up from a nap to my cat gently sniffing at my incisions with great alarm.

- I was not allowed to shower the first day after surgery, and the cats, seeing that The Large Cat is not observing its cleaning ritual, decided I must be gravely disabled and compensated by licking all the exposed skin on my arms, face, and legs.

- I currently have to sleep with a pillow over my abdomen because my cat insists on climbing on top of me and covering my incisions with her body while I sleep (which is very sweet but not exactly comfortable without the pillow). She also lays across me facing my bedroom door, presumably on guard for attackers who may try to harm me while I'm sleeping and injured.
