I Played The Beginner's Guide Again. I've Got To Write About The House Cleaning Game. It's A Masterpiece.

I played The Beginner's Guide again. I've got to write about the house cleaning game. It's a masterpiece. The contrast of the snow outside and the warm lighting inside create a cozy feeling inside the house. The layout of the house obscures tasks resetting. The song "Va" is so beautiful. The casual conversion puts my mind at ease.

Maybe staying in the space between spaces is good. Coda's version would have let us drown our sorrows in an endless stream of straightening pillows and washing dishes. But the scene ends, and every time it's bittersweet.

When the credits fade and I return to the lamppost once more, the only question in my mind is, "Could I ever make something like this?"

I love The Beginner’s Guide. I love the gravel in the train station, I love the one lonely catwalk that leads nowhere. I love that Coda made games with no ending (household tasks forever!) I love The Machine, the space between spaces, the scattered notes, and the void-dwelling trees. It’s like a glimpse into a culture I was too young to experience and a version of my history I’m not too old to explore.

Me outside:

“These reflections are looking really good today.”

“Wow, this subsurface scattering is on point!”

“Ambient occlusion’s lookin’ good!”

“You’re telling me a shrimp fried this global illumination?!”
