Knowing what we know about Webby, it doesn’t seem like it would sit well with her to have someone who’s barely older than a kid trapped in the black and white for all eternity, even if that someone is Max. Maybe she could hide him from her brothers sometimes, give him some cheer up tickles? (He insists he’s fine and doesn’t need it while clinging to her involuntarily.)

Webby believes in second chances for everyone & she saw the glimmers of a good person in a shitty situation hiding in Max & she feels like her brothers will only encourage him to keep doing bad things. At first Max is very resistant to the idea because he’s a high school jock with a superiority complex & he tells her he “doesn’t need help from a chick!”

She really doesn’t appreciate the sentiment but lets it slide because she needs to set a good example for him. But she offers him a chance to “get out of the dark for a while” & he leaps at the opportunity before accepting it in a much cooler way

While he’s hanging out with her, he makes a comment about her multiple arms & she mentions how they come in “handy” & when he doesn’t laugh at her joke, she spiders her fingers over his sides & belly. When he doesn’t put up too much of a fight, she keeps going with light, playful tickles to keep him giggly & squirmy, but it’s clear by his smile & lack of protests that he’s having at least a little fun

Once she has him relaxed & comfortable around her, she asks if her brothers treat him well. He’s like “fuck no, they drug me down to hell! But… it’s better than going home” & he means home in the broad sense, not just his house with his shitty dad, but Hatchetfield as a whole, because he saw how much better off everyone was without him so he really does prefer the Black & White

She apologizes & says he can’t spend the night & whips up a web hammock for him. He doesn’t want to show how thankful he is so he mocks her like “what, you gonna read me a bedtime story too?” & she just shrugs like “if you want” & he gets all quiet & mumbles “well what do you got?” & she lists off some stories & he’s like “I don’t care, just pick whatever” & he moves over in the hammock to make room for her

She wasn’t actually expecting him to open up this much but she lays with him & reads a feel good story & gently runs her nails up & down his arms, leaving goosebumps in her wake & Max is softly giggling & hugs her until he falls asleep

Webby just has such a soft spot for kids, but especially ones who were dealt a shitty hand
