2. "Someone get the medic. Get the medic!"

“Someone get the medic. Get the medic!” Hero's voice broke as their gaze locked on Sidekick laying there, blood pooling out around them. Their arm was twisted wrong and- and Gods they were still breathing. Hero's knees thudded to the ground next to sidekick and now they could hear the ragged gasps coming from sidekick as they tried to breathe. Grasping sidekicks hand -not the one from their twisted arm- Hero squeezed, gently so gently, sidekick looked so fragile right now, their skin pale and eyes unfocused, staring up, unblinking.

“Medic!” Hero waved them down. Relief washed over them, sidekick would be okay, they would be okay.

“I've got it from here.” the medic said as they waved Hero off. It was better to give the medics the space they needed to work. With one last squeeze Hero stood and moved away. Beneath the pounding of their own heart and the adrenaline pulsing through their veins Hero hadn't noticed the small squeeze Sidekick gave back, or that their breath had stopped sounding so ragged, stopped sounding. The final shudder their body had given after Hero let go, or the last tear that dripped down off of their face.
