I Think Gen Hates Nahuseresh On A Couple Different Levels. He Hates That Nahuseresh Manipulated Attolia
I think Gen hates Nahuseresh on a couple different levels. He hates that Nahuseresh manipulated Attolia into cutting off his hand in order to incite a war. Nahuseresh’s actions were motivated by the political interests of the Mede Empire. It wasn’t anything personal against Gen and I don’t think Gen takes it personally, so to speak, at this point. He knows that the countries of the Little Peninsula need to be united against the Mede and is angry that Nahuseresh used him (and Attolia) as pawns in provoking this war. We know Gen hates killing and he’s got to be super pissed there have been so many needless deaths because of Nahuseresh’s actions.
Then I think there’s also a personal element that develops. In QoA Gen is no doubt upset about the rumored relationship between Attolia and Nahuseresh but I think it really turns personal in KoA when he finds out Nahuseresh is behind the assassination attempt. Again Nahuseresh’s motive is fomenting unrest in Attolia (and Eddis, since they’re not going to take it well that their Thief was killed on Attolia’s watch—they might even think she was behind it.) But of all the ways he could accomplish his political purposes he chooses to go after Gen personally. And Gen’s response is wanting to kill Nahuseresh personally.
Thinking through the tangled interactions between Gen, Attolia, and Nahuseresh in QoA brought up another question in my mind. To what extent, if any, did Gen know that Attolia was “playing” Nahuseresh? We know that he had spent a lot of time both observing her and reading about her, enough so that he saw her in a way no one else did. He would not underestimate her the way Nahuseresh does. I’m not sure how much he knows of their interactions, though. Thoughts?
I kind of wonder why Gen hates Naserfish so much. Like, don’t get me wrong, he’s obviously evil and Gen is right to hate him. But like—
He wanted to marry Attolia? So did Dite, and Gen came to like him.
He got Gen tortured? So did Relius.
We have literally not seen anyone yet that Gen can’t find a reason to like. He didn’t like Ambiades, but he didn’t seem to hate him, and sort of pitied him. He didn’t like Dite’s brother but he still showed him mercy.
Maybe it’s just that this particular dude is evil and there’s nothing more to it. Or maybe that seems to be the only place for him to take out his leftover fury over a losing hand and being tortured and all the other crap that has happened to him. After all, there’s not really anyone else left to resent. But we have already established multiple times that stuff goes on behind the scenes. Like his friendship with Kamet.
Kamet. Who works closely with Naserfish. Which leads me to 2 thoughts.
1, Kamet told him some things that were truly awful about his master. (I’m thinking about that sexual assault post but don’t want to think about that.)
2, Gen also had a behind the scenes relationship with Naserfish, where he learned stuff he didn’t like.
My question is this: did Gen also get to know Naserfish (I do know that’s not his name) under his lazy serving boy guise?

“You’re not being persecuted because you’re a Christian, it’s just because you’re being intolerant/a bigot/whatever. There are plenty of Christians who keep quiet and don’t get targeted.”
Well, what do you think religious persecution IS? Why do you think they killed the church fathers? For posting aesthetic calligraphy and listening to hillsong? No! They spoke out against sin! They told people to repent and turn to Christ! When those actions are no longer protected, Christianity itself is under attack.

No power? No problem! Heating up soup and rolls for lunch on the wood stove. ❄️ 🔥 (at Woodstock, Vermont) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqsS5I7FHt6iX9Uy0deyg9viLVlFi6JN1uqc0U0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18yvqh9cutabb
