You're Not a Monster

You were a villain in a children's show, hated or loved you were one. Your whole story arc was that you wanted to take away everyone's smile since no one could give you a smile. Stupid right?

As you were defeated again, like always.. you finally had enough. Your maniacal laughter turned into sobbing as you held yourself close, knees to your chest as you clung onto your own little body. Dogday cautiously approached despite catnap grabbing his wrist with his tail, giving a head shake of disapproval. But Dogday still continued and knelt in front of you. “Hey.. what's wrong?”

A question he never thought he'd ask the villain in his life, but his heart was too big not to care. You sniffled and hiccuped, before somehow managing to choke out the words. “I.. I'm sorry!” You wailed, holding your face in your paws.

This reaction had surprised the two. You? The villain? Apologizing? Surely this had to be a dream. Dogday looked back at Catnap as if making sure he wasn't using his red smoke, but the feline was just as surprised as him. Dogday slowly turned back to you and put a hand on your shoulder, smiling at you warmly but awkwardly. “Hey, hey! It's okay.” He said cheerfully, his tail wagging. Catnap slowly started to approach and stared at you suspiciously, before he sat beside you. “Why are you crying?”

You only managed to get sniffles and shaky breaths out, gulping down oxygen as if it was water in the middle of a desert. You were trying to find the words but just kept on crying. “I.. I didn't wanna.. I didn't..” you tried to choke out but only managed to keep repeating the same thing over and over again. Dogday seemed to have more empathy than Catnap, who still eyed you suspiciously. The orange dog spoke up happily. “It's alright! Apology accepted!” He said, causing his best friend to look at him in disbelief but he didn't say anything.

A few sniffles and whimpers escaped you as you managed to calm down, body jolting after every few breaths as you looked up at him through eyes that burned from salty tears. “R.. really..?” You asked, backing up slightly once Dogday brought his hand down as an offering. You stared at it in shock before taking it and getting up, helping Catnap up as well. “Don't try anything.” Catnap warned, ears flat but he seemed more at ease. If Dogday had faith in you, then he did as well.

You had finally smiled.
