This rec list is a response to a request from @jjmazzy​ , who kindly reached out after I made a sad!post about feeling disconnected from veronica mars fandom after s4. 

Now full disclosure, as much as I am a WeeVer fan, I’m mostly just a Weevil fan. So my true love lies with gen fic and I tend to favour reading in Eli’s POV. That being said, I have some wonderful WeeVer recs for you and I welcome fellow rarepair fans <3

Short Skirts and Small Spaces by Shealynn88 (M)

I wholeheartedly recommend any of Shealynn88’s WeeVer fic. They’re probably my favourite WeeVer author (and also a fairly recent addition to AO3!) I actually found their fic while digging through LiveJournal and was so excited to finally be able to leave a comment on AO3 telling them how much I loved it.  Anyways, this fic is a beautifully-characterized friends-to-lovers situation that nails both Veronica and Weevil’s perspectives. Advantage by lodessa (T)

Another one of my favourite WeeVer (and just Logan/Weevil and just plain Weevil) authors, so anything written by lodessa is a rec for me. I love the way she writes Eli’s perspective in this fic. The banter between Veronica and Eli feels wonderfully in character. And I love the way they finally admit their feelings for each other in this fic.

Almost There by AliceInKinkland (T)

Fits into canon at the end of 1x19. This fic is a gorgeous, heartbreaking look at Veronica’s past relationship with Lilly, and her budding relationship with Eli. It’s equal parts Veronica/Lilly as it is Veronica/Weevil, but I’d say give it try even if it’s not your thing because it’s so well done. The conversation between Veronica and Weevil is somehow both lighthearted and weighty in the best way. Plus their kisses are seriously hot.

Move Over the Ground by petpluto (M)

This is a sequel to the first fic, which follows the same events from Veronica’s perspective. Both are highly recommended. This is an AU in which both Lilly and Logan died, and Veronica is haunted by both their ghosts as she tries to figure out who killed them. It’s a masterfully constructed longfic that honestly flies by as you’re reading it.

Enough by Jaqofspades (M)

JaqofSpades is another highly recommended WeeVer author. Definitely check out their entire catalogue. This fic finds Weevil and Veronica finally admitting their feelings to each other during season 3. The characterization is so good and the dialogue perfectly in-character. Definitely check it out.

Planets All Align by noplacespecial (T)

Although this fic is unfinished, it still works as a series of one-shots that insert WeeVer moments into season 1. I love the way this fic fits plausible WeeVer moments into the canon we’re familiar with. Great character voices and interesting ideas. Highly recommended.

Falling Slowly, Falling Finally by leobrat (T)

This author also has quite a few WeeVer fics. This is a sweet and simple look at Veronica and Eli getting together. It fills me with all sorts of nice feelings.

Push and Pull by sowell (T)

Not quite WeeVer as it is a missed connection between the two of them. But what a compelling missed connection it is. I love all the interactions between Veronica and Weevil. I love the air of mystery and unstated things throughout the fic. Sowell has also written a couple other of my (non-WeeVer) favourites. So good.

Just Remember Me When You’re Good To Go by vixleonard (T)

This is a canon-compliant look at WeeVer in S1. It’s bittersweet but oh-so-good. I love how it shines some light on how Eli understands Veronica. Again, something I always look for in my fic is a good Weevil voice, which is hard to find in my opinion. This fic delivers.

A Quinceanera Story by ExistentialMalaises (M)

I’m pretty picky with stories that dive into Eli’s family because I find there are few authors who can do it well. This one is done well. I love getting to see inside Eli’s head and find that he’s not always as confident as he tries to make himself seem. I feel like it’s a bit of a different take on an M-rated scene—it might not work for you, but I personally love it.

Goodbye, Neptune by igrockspock (E)

Igrockspock has some great Weevil fic as well, but this WeeVer one is also notable. The kiss they finally share is just perfect. The ending is bittersweet, but somehow perfect too.

Conspiracy to commit by Querulousgawks (T)

A wonderful little AU that shows us the beginnings of a Veronica/Eli relationship. I adore the rhythm of Querlousgawks’ fic. They’ve written a couple other of my favourite fics as well. This fic is impressive because it tells a whole AU story in 1k words. It’s impressive and so well-done.

Kristen Bell on the Final Season of 'The Good Place' and That Shocking 'Veronica Mars' Ending

Kristen Bell talked about how why NBC's 'The Good Place' is coming to an end, that shocking 'Veronica Mars' ending, 'Frozen 2' and more.

Also, the one thing that I struggled with was why people were so upset when she turned down Logan’s proposal. Humbly, I’m so happy being married with two kids. I love the white picket fence that I’ve got. But I’m Voltaire about the fact that’s not right for everyone. I may not agree with what you say, but I’ll fight to death for your right to say it. Not everyone wants to have kids. Not everyone wants to get married. Veronica does not want to get married, right now. She is not ready, and that is her choice. And I didn’t love that people were like, “Why can’t she just marry Logan?” Well, because she doesn’t need a man to fix all her problems. She hasn’t had good examples of marriage. She’s not ready to commit. The true test of feminism is whether or not you’re gonna agree with her, or whether or not you think she should have something different because society states she should. So, it was interesting to me to see so many people upset about that because I thought we had distanced ourselves from John Cusack with the boombox outside our window being right for everyone. It’s not a love story that’s wrapped in a perfect bow. It’s okay for Veronica to have complex feelings about marriage because she’s being honest with herself.

I’ve avoided posting or discussing articles by cast/ crew which which I don’t agree, because everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. But I feel this statement is a deliberate PR misdirect ploy, meant to reframe the backlash as ‘fans being silly’, and KB keeps repeating it in every interview. So, to refute:

1) No fan I know is mad that Veronica turned down Logan’s proposal initially. Pretty much everyone thinks the choice was in character. Veronica’s first line in her first scene, season 1, was something along the lines of ‘I’m never getting married’ and she stated it as an absolute.

2) Veronica DID want to get married and commit in the end, though. You know how I know? Because she did get married. To Logan. By her own choice. In a scene which KB presumably remembers, because she filmed it.

3) How is it distancing the show from ‘John Cusack with the boombox outside our window’ to promote the new season’s theme song with…John Cusack Rob outside KB’s window? This season’s promotional material was 100% tropes she claims they eschew. Which makes their PR a beyond-cynical bait-and-switch con, designed to trick fans into watching something sure to upset them.

The talking point in this interview is a straw man argument, formulated to make the speaker seem more rational and progressive than her opponent. The real reason fans are mad is because the male co-lead was fridged to re-traumatize our heroine–the writers think V’s only interesting when she suffers. And that viewpoint is not feminist or progressive at all.
