thinking about post-break up jegulus with a regulus that gets de-aged to a time where he had the biggest, most embarrassing crush on james and he pined after him like no one’s business and how little regulus who is still a little bit soft and kind and hopeful has to find out that not only did he get james but that he somehow lost him too and then he has to deal with being pissed off at his older self because he doesn’t understand or recognise that person and he cannot fathom ever choosing to let james go meanwhile james has to deal with having to be kind to the boy who broke his heart because it’s not little regulus’s fault. he doesn’t know. he isn’t older regulus. so he swallows his hurt and his pain so that he can be there for him and in the time he spends with little regulus he starts understanding older regulus a lot better because little regulus doesn’t have his guard up in the same way older regulus does. and while all of this is happening regulus is also clinging to sirius in a way he hasn’t for so long and sirius spends all his time trying not to cry or not to hope because this is the regulus he remembers, the one he likes, the one that was his. he’d forgotten what it used to be like, to love and be loved by regulus. and now he got it back. a miracle. a gift. but one that was secretly a ticking time bomb, always meant to end disastrously. always meant to be ripped from him again.
