PAIRING... nishimura riki x gn!reader | GENRE... secret-enemies-to-lovers, secret relationship! au, graduation! au, fluff, humor | WC... 0.5k | “yeah well, you already know that i’m not most people.”

the bouquet in your hands, the cap on your head, the emotional chatter surrounding you, it all feels too good to be true. indeed, it’s surreal, having made it this far and being where you are now- diploma and achievements all safely stored away (to be admired at plenty more later, you’re sure).
but if only, if only there was one thing- no, one person- that would appear before you like magic and make this day even better than before.
and as if the world decided to be kind to you, even if it was just for today, said person on your mind reveals himself in your line of sight. you think he sees you at the same moment you see him, a flicker of recognition in both your eyes.
you clutch the bouquet in your hands a little tighter while your body stands there, unmoving.
niki strolls over to you nonchalantly, putting up an act as if he almost didn’t want to approach you (but you obviously knew the truth).
the teasing smile on his face, the glint in his eyes, you can’t help but return the favor with a raised eyebrow.
“so you didn’t fail chemistry, after all.”
you shake your head in half-amusement and half-exasperation. “you know, most people would say a simple, congratulations.”
niki leans closer to whisper in your ear, “yeah well, you already know that i’m not most people.”
but the way you shiver involuntarily and avoid eye contact at the proximity, he can’t help but forget where exactly (and what position) you two are in.
perhaps that’s why he, without even thinking much about it, lays a sweet and simple (as you basically requested) kiss on your perfect lips. in front of everyone- might as well have been the whole world to see.
you stare at him, utterly dumbfounded. niki thinks a hush falls over the surrounding area, witnesses with absolute dropped jaws and parents giving confused stares.
there’s no way… -they’re probably thinking-
you and nishimura riki?
“idiot,” you hiss for only him to hear, “last time i checked, we’re still in public!”
niki only then realizes his mistake, and lets out a curse while you internally freak out. he pushes your side playfully, although to you it feels more or less like a punch in the gut.
“h-haha, surprise! i got you good there, didn’t i… y/n?”
you sigh, “just… just no, riki. it’s too late now considering all the people taking photos of us- and will you stop holding onto my hand?!” you practically growl at him by the end in frustration, only then raising up your intertwined hands as proof.
he blinks, cocking his head slightly to question the strange occurrence. niki didn’t even realize he had grabbed your hand while in a panic to fix the situation.
“is it too late to say happy graduation?” niki scratches the back of his neck and you squint, trying your hardest to ignore the stares and (not so quiet) whispers coming from quite literally everyone around you.
“idiot- it doesn’t change the fact that everyone knows we’re dating now.” you say that and yet you can’t prevent the smile arising on your face, probably because niki still hasn’t let go of your hand. and you know he won’t, not when you suppose your forbidden secret is out.
“well, at least they know i actually don’t hate your guts? and you don’t hate mine?“
“not helping.”

a/n ▸ am and always will be a black hair niki enthusiast- esp for the new comeback and you can't convince me he looks better in any other color !?)#@';./.'/.

⊱ ━━━━.⋅ εïз ⋅.━━━━ ⊰

You were fairly a good student. You didn't do much outside of school but volunteer stuff, and that's probably how you ended up here in the first place. At the gym at 6:00 on a Friday, watching the team you helped coach, score each time from the other team. You had been ripping and running all day. You were tired, hungry, dehydrated and felt like you smelt like the bottom of Shrek's ass.
Your eyes were bouncing all over the court, landing on your brother Lee Heeseung, captain of the basketball team. Since you could remember, he was always teaching you something about basketball. At a young age you came to love it. It was something you both held dear to your hearts and something you bonded over. You would've joined if your school had a girls basketball team, but no one was interested. Accompanying your brother on the courts were his closest and best friends, some you came to adore and know.
Others... not so much.
They were Jake Sim. His longest friend. Park Sunghoon. Typically, the quietest one. Park Jongseong. But people called him Jay. And Nishimura Riki. But he went by the name Ni-ki. He was by far the most annoying. Maybe it's because he was the closest to your age. Or maybe it was the way that he didn't listen to anything you said, no matter what it was. You could hand him a water bottle in the hot sun, and he wouldn't take it.
That happened. Literally last weekend.
Each time it was the same thing. He wouldn’t comply with you, he’s always knock you down during practice, though you weren’t scared to try and do it back, though his height advantage beat you sometimes.
You tried to keep your cool. For your sake.
Regardless, you always tried to be nice to him, over and over. Chance after chance. But your patience was running thin. During the remainder of the first half of the game, you continued to watch, seeing the score for your team go up. The crowd cheering with each dribble of the ball down the court, Jake shooting and scoring a point. Soon the buzzer buzzed, and the first half of the game was over. You finally took the chance to sit down, taking a small seat until Heeseung came over and you smiled, a wave of happiness coming over you as you seen your brother.
"Hey." He spoke to you out of breath, his heart lips showing his full smile as you handed him a cold washcloth. "Hey." You replied back, watching him. The male mumbled a small thank you and you waited for him to finish before continuing to speak. "You did amazing out there. It was like watching Lebron James" you joked, and he rolled his eyes, nudging your shoulder. "Lying is bad, you'll get lie bumps." he said, sticking out his tongue at you.
You grinned and replied back. "Must be why your taste buds are visible. The two of you laughed before spotting Jake, his hands resting above his head. "Hey, Y/n" he spoke, your name rolling off his tongue, followed by his Australian accent. "Mind rounding up a couple water bottles for us Seven?" he asked, and you nodded. Knowing Jungwon and Nicholas were going to be put in the next game. "Of course, I'll be right back." You said, excusing yourself from the conversation you were having before making your way to concessions.
The line was full, and you had approximately 18 minutes to make it back with water bottles for the seven. While standing in line you couldn't help but notice Ni-ki walking from out the double doors, you crossed your fingers hoping he wouldn't bother you. To your luck, he didn't.
That was a first.
Waiting what felt like hours but had only been a couple of seconds, you felt a slightly taller presence behind you, their hands wrapped around your body as you slightly tensed. "Guess who~?" they sung out and you laughed. It was your best friend, Sunoo. The two of you met in Middle school when he was in 8th grade, two grades higher than you back when you met. The two of you instantly clicked.
"I didn't expect you to be here, I thought you went on that date?" you asked, and he moved his hands, pouting his perfect lips. "They cancelled, but hey, it's their loss." he spoke, and you nodded, agreeing with him.
"What are you in the concession line for?" The male asked, the two of you in your own little world, ignoring the hustle of the outside world, anyone but you two. "I'm getting water for everyone on the team, though I'm annoyed none of them brought their own water bottles." You groaned, leaning your head back slightly. "Or maybe they did and just want to make your life harder." Sunoo grinned and wiggled his eyebrows.
You rolled your eyes as it was finally your turn to place your order. "Yes, May I please have 8 water bottles?" you say as the small child that was helping rounded up your total. Sunoo leaned over and whispered to you. "I thought you only needed Seven?" "Well, I want one too" you frowned.
After a small call over from the child, another lady helped them calculate the total, the little kid speaking. "That will be $16 ma'am, cash or card?" he asked, "Cash" you responded, feeling around in your pocket, patting your jacket *and* pants pocket, but not being able to find it nowhere. You leaned over to Sunoo, whispering slightly. "Do you by chance have $17 dollars? I'll pay you back, I promise you" said as he shook his head. "No, I only have 5, the ticket lady took my money" he frowned.
You couldn't even deal with the mountain of embarrassment that came over your body at the moment, your cheeks flushing red. Hell, your whole face. Until you saw a hand reaching across, and a $20 bill being handed to the small boy that started to count the change. You and Sunoo both looked over to see Ni-ki, his hair slightly sticking to his face, his side profile causing you to stare with a slight smirk on his face. You were slightly mesmerized by the males looks. He definitely wasn't the worst looking person you'd ever seen. If only his attitude towards you wasn't such a dickhead thing. Who knows, maybe the two of you would actually be friends. Sunoo and you collected the water while Ni-ki collected his change.
--
The three of you stepped out of line. "Uh, thanks..." you said, holding the cold-water bottles, before feeling Ni-ki take one from your hands. "Well, you were looking a little embarrassed in the line..." he said, sucking in air through his teeth. "I wouldn't have wanted to be you" he laughed, turning around. "I'll take my $17 in any form of payment" he said before turning around and walking back through the black double doors. Your eyebrows furrowed as you watch Sunoo roll his eyes. "Gosh, I don't know how you have the strength to deal with him. He's so sarcastic."
"To be fair, so are you" you laughed, and Sunoo rolls his eyes playfully. "Yeah, but I'm better" he joked, and you shook your head. "Okay, let's get these to the boys" you said, leading Sunoo to the boys, making their way over to you, thanking you for the water and smiling. "About time." Heeseung joked as you rolled your eyes and sat down.
Oh, weren't you ready to go home.
--
Once the second quarter of the game started you were back in your mode, making sure to keep look for any fouls. The people that were playing the game now was Nicholas, Jungwon, Jake, Sunghoon and Ni-ki. The quote-on-quote best players on the team.
Your eyes kept flickering towards Ni-ki. Trying hard to look away but the male was so captivating even though he boiled your blood with the things he said. As the crowd cheered, your eyes jumped to the score board. 42 ( — ) 24. Heeseung was on the 3-point line, dribbling the ball as he tossed the ball to Ni-ki who threw it back to Heeseung after distracting a couple of the opposing teammates that were near him at the time. Your brother shot the basketball, from the line. It goes in with a... *SWISH*.
The people on the crowd stood up, stomping and shouting, the cheerleaders performing and waiving their pompoms. The band performing. Total chaos in the school's gymnasium. A big smile on your face as you watched your brother get showered in the love he deserved.
You ran towards him, wrapping your arms around him, giving him a big hug. Feeling a sense of pride for your brother, for him to be doing something he truly enjoyed and getting credit for it along with the rest of the team. You couldn’t help but feel a sense of happiness. All those long weekends of practice and after school practice came in handy. The score flashing 45 ( — ) 24.
--
“Hey, can you get a ride from Ni-ki? I’m not going straight home and everyone else already left. I already asked him, and he said yes.” Heeseung spoke as you frowned. “I really don’t want to; you know me and him don’t get alone. I can’t promise you I’ll be nice.” You crossed your arms as you put your book-bag strap over your shoulder, after uncrossing your arms.
“Oh, come on, try and be nice? I will be home later but I’m sure you’re ready to just go home. It’s only like a 15-minute drive, you will be okay.” Heeseung spoke, leaning and pressing a soft kiss to your head. “Don’t wait up for me.” He spoke. “WASNT. planning on it” you said slightly annoyed, but you couldn’t even be mad at him. You sighed, searching the halls, calling out the male's name gently, getting louder with each call.
“Ni-ki!” You shouted, groaning as you looked around, screaming and raising your hand to hit the male once he popped out from the corner, grabbing your hand as he laughed. His hand holding your wrist, gripping it tightly. “God-! You scared the shit out of me!” You whine and gently took your wrist from his hand. The male let it go and laughed a little. “Yeah, sorry about that... not” he laughed, and you rolled your eyes. “You’re annoying. Take me home.” The attitude evident in your voice as he rolled his eyes at it, standing there for a second, his gaze burning a whole into you.
You took a deep breath before looking at the male and hummed. “Please...” you said, biting your tongue. You didn’t want to stall anymore, you just wanted to go home and that was it. Needing a hot shower, something to eat and relax yourself on your bed since it was the afternoon. “Yes, I can.” He finally spoke, him glancing at you before he started walking to the back of the school, the parking lot where every student with a car parked. It was quiet except for the two of your footsteps, the sound of the door opening as he held it out for you, a soft “thank you” escapes your lips as the two of you made it quietly to the male's car.
Not knowing whether it would be rude of not to sit in the back seat, you got into the passenger side of the male's car, placing your book bag on the floorboard in-front of you, buckling up your seatbelt.
Ni-ki did the same and started the car, turning on the radio as he drove off. The first bit of the car ride was a little awkward. You didn’t move much, causing you to get a slight stiff in your neck since you were looking out your window. Something came over you that made you ask the question.
“Why are you always such an asshole to me?” You didn’t know why you had the urge to say it right now out of all times, I mean you could have just easily did it at school when you didn’t have to see him that much, but you asked him in his car. “An asshole to you?” He answered your question with a question. Leaning back in his seat as he turned his head to look at you, his eyes roaming your body.
“Yeah, an asshole to me.” You replied firmly. “I’m not an asshole to you.” He answered, causing you to scoff. “Ni-ki, don’t play stupid with me. You know what I’m talking about. Ever since I started being the assistant you have gave me nothing but trouble. I want to know why, what have I done to you?” You asked, now starting to wonder what truly could be behind the male's mind. Ni-ki started driving, the car ride being silent. Filled with the awkward silence and the soft tunes of the radio. The time flew by. To you it seemed like it’s been at least an hour. But the 15 minutes was coming to a stop.
“I don’t know, I just think you’re fun to mess with.” He spoke, but you weren’t buying it. “Can I ask you a question?” Ni-ki asked, pulling up in front of your house, parking in the driveway, in the spot Heeseung normally parked in, but since he wasn’t home. Ni-ki used it. “What’s that?” You ask, slightly curious at the question you were about it to be asked.
“Do you and Sunoo date?” He asked, not looking at you, his eyes staring straight forward as he bit his bottom lip gently, putting the car into park.
Nothing could have prepared you for that question. You widened your eyes slightly at it. “What- no- Sunoo is my best friend. Why would you even ask that? What business is it to you?” You asked, - shocked - your lips slightly agape. “Good.” Is all he said.
“Good??!” You repeated and he finally looked at you, his eyes flickering around your face, clearly noticing your slightly distraught but concerned look.
What happened to the Ni-ki I know? The one that makes me want to ring my brain out. Why was he acting like this?
The male licked his lips and gently placed his hand on your cheek, biting his bottom lip as you felt your heart began to race. “Wh-what are you doing?” You question before feeling his soft and plush lips against yours. Your eyes closing as you let yourself melt into the kiss. it was like something snapped inside of you. After all these times, the feelings you couldn’t deny rushed into your body, butterflies fluttering with each sound both of your lips made smacking together.
Your body was turned, facing his as you ran your hands through his hair, his hands placed on your hips, slightly rubbing the skin there. His tongue poked at your bottom lip as you opened your mouth, allowing the males tongue to explore the inside of your mouth.
The two of you pulled away the only thing connecting you two was a single strand of spit that was soon gone, heavy pants playing loudly over the man that was speaking on the radio. “What was that..?” You questioned, licking your lips as your eye fluttered to look at him.
A soft smirk appeared on his lips. “Me saying that I’ll pick you up tomorrow, that we should actually get to know each other better.” Ni-ki smiled and placed his hand on your cheek, his thumb caressing the skin of your cheek.
“Can I see about that..?” You slightly blushed and he nodded. Taking his hand, you gently intertwined your fingers and placed a soft kiss on the back of his hand, getting out of the car and grabbing your backpack. “See you..” you said before he waved and returned it with a smile. “See you.” Once you were clear out of the way of the car, Ni-ki pulled off and made his way out of the neighborhood, you stood still for a second, sighing as you watched his car disappear. You touched your lips which were now a little swollen and a bit tingling from the kiss that still lingered on your mind.
Gosh, what did you do.
After you finally showered, feeling the freshest that you could, you sat down in your bed, hearing a bunch of iPhone dings coming from your notifications. It was a group chat filled with the basketball team, excluding your brother. A new one.
Y/N kisses Ni-ki. [ the bet. ]
Ni-ki: [ *sent 2 attatchments, picture & video* ]
Jake: I knew it was going to happen.
Nicho: Ha! Called it. Pay up.
Jungwon: SOOOO not fair. I thought it’d be at least 2 months.
Sunghoon: damn, I owe Sunoo $70
Jay: 💀
You widen your eyes. Was that what that was? Were you just a bet. To see how long it would be until you kissed someone apart of the basketball team. Your best friend even participating in it. You felt disgusting. Your head pounding after you left the group chat, tears welding into your eyes. Your head pounding.
“Fucking Nishimura. My biggest headache.”

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL WAS ALWAYS THE WORST.
Even in university, you hated the first day back to school. The only thing you were thankful for was that for once in your life, you didn’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn like you did back in high school. Your first day of university consisted of snoozing a couple of alarms, practically swallowing your entire breakfast (a banana) in five minutes, and almost locking yourself out of your apartment without your keys.
It was the first day and you were already tired of classes. Pretty early on you were able to decide what your least favorite class was—organic chemistry.
Even the thought of it made shivers run down your spine. Just why did it have to be so stupidly hard? At this point, you didn’t have the time or energy to struggle through another class. You like to think that you suffered enough in school, worked your butt off to get accepted to college and now that you made it, you had to go through it all over again?
Organic chemistry was your least favorite class by far, and you usually sat in the back of the lecture hall because you were too lazy to walk more to a closer seat. You didn’t pay much attention to others, most of your focus was just on absorbing the material and getting in and out as fast as you could from that place.
But about a month into adjusting into your “exciting” college life, you’re sitting in said dreaded class and minding your own business. Your precious and hardworking hand was scribbling notes mindlessly as the professor lectured on and on.
Until you hear a commotion from your left where the door was. You suppose that was what happened when you sat as close to the exit as possible so that every sound from outside was audible to you. A quiet groan enters your ears and this time you break your focus to glance to the side. A disgruntled boy was huddled by the entrance, crouched down and crawling on the floor below the desks. Was he- was he trying to avoid getting caught late?
He must’ve noticed you eyes on him because soon enough, you make eye contact. Awkwardly, you turn back to face the front. Just as you get back into the groove of the lesson, a whisper from the side distracts you. Your eyebrow twitches. It happens again and you huff, whipping your head around. You were the only one who sat in the furthest row, so it only could have been directed towards you.
He glances up at you desperately, “Can I sit next to you?” He mouths. You only shrug before your attention is back on the professor once again. Quietly, he shuffles into the spot next to you and you wonder why he asked for your permission and why he chose to sit indeed in the seat right next to you.
Sneaking a closer peek, you wonder if you’ve seen him around campus before or if he was in another class of yours that you just didn’t pay enough attention to notice him. Only because there was something strangely familiar about him- something you couldn’t place your finger on.

It takes about another week before you figure out the identity of the mysterious boy. After that day, you got up without a word as soon as the professor finished his lecture and headed out. You didn’t bother talking to the guy, figuring it was a one time occurrence that he chose to sit next to you. But the next day, and the next day after that, he slips in the seat next to you silently.
Your eyes widen but you look away before he can catch your eyes on him again. Questioning thoughts run through your head, but you shake them away as you pull out your notes. Why hadn’t you seen him in your class before? And why did he choose to sit next to you again?
But when your professor starts class you soon forget about the him and focus on your work again. The only time you stop writing is when you hear a soft snore coming from your left.
At first, you ignore it.
It’s quiet enough so that the people in the row below you can’t hear it. But you can. Eyebrow twitching in annoyance, you glance to your right to see the guy obviously passed out, cheek pressed on his arm and mouth hanging slightly open. At the unexpected view you almost laugh but instead brush it off as a cough. You wonder if you should wake him up, but he seems so relaxed in his sleep that you can’t bother to wake him up.
Or at least until class is over. For the first time, you aren’t the first one to leave class. Taking your time while packing up all your stuff, your gaze constantly flicks back and forth towards the sleeping figure. Is he ever going to wake up?
Well, it didn’t seem likely so you took matters into your own hands. You gently shake his shoulder a couple times before he groans and sits up. The poor guy looks dazed, blearily staring at his surroundings before his eyes fall on you.
You grip your bag tighter, “I think you passed out somewhere in the middle of the lecture.”
His eyebrows furrow, “Aw shoot, really?”
He shakes his head to fix his hair. You bite your lip, nodding.
“Yeah. Hard.”
Clearing your throat, you tentatively speak up again, “Do… do you want my notes? I don’t really mind that much.”
He gladly accepts and you take out your phone. “I’ll send them to you. What’s your number?”
As soon as those words leave your mouth, you pause. “Wait, it’s not like that-“
He laughs and your heart stops. No way, it sounded so similar to someone that you used to know, someone you used to-
“Don’t worry,” he smiles, “I get it.”
Something was so strangely familiar about him, you felt like the answer was just out of your hands.
“O-oh, uh, alright..”
Why in the world were you stuttering?
You freeze as he offers his phone to you. And with his next words change everything.
“I’m Park Sunghoon. And you?”
It takes a moment before your mouth drops open. The familiar smile, echoing laugh, it all made sense.
“Park Sunghoon? Sunghoon?!”
He cocks his head in confusion and a foreign feeling washes over you.
“It’s me-y/n y/l/n,” you state in shock, “Do you remember me?”

You actually couldn’t believe it. After all these years, you met once again. Park Sunghoon, your childhood friend from over 7 years ago. You two weren’t the closest, but you still hung out in the same friend group and enjoyed each other’s company regardless.
You could say you genuinely enjoyed hanging out with him, even when he was the popular guy in your class. Girls would surround him daily but you didn’t really care. Park Sunghoon was cool to you as an nine year old and that was all that mattered.
Seeing him again, after so many years, was so strange. Puberty definitely hit him, and you could say with confidence (and a bit of jealousy), it only did him good. That’s probably why you couldn’t recognize him at first, and that it had been so many years since you thought about him. Yet he still kept that familiar charm- beaming eyes and handsome smile.
Your friend group split when you guys all went to different high schools, losing contact, but you were happy that Sunghoon still managed to grow up well. That he managed to make it to college and even be in the same class as you (not including the fact that he was late and snuck in… or that he fell asleep in the middle of the lecture).
After reuniting, you agreed to meet up at a nearby cafe to catch up. It was so strange to reconnect with someone you never expected to see again in your life. Sunghoon was just as pleasant as he was back then, not like the other annoying boys in your class. You figured that’s why you got along so well with him to this day.
And because you now had someone to struggle alongside with in organic chem.
Walking out of the store, you sigh in content.
“I still can’t believe you were the one to sit next to me without even knowing it.”
Sunghoon nods, “it must’ve been fate.”
You roll your eyes, nudging his side. “You believe in all that stuff?” He shrugs with a small chuckle.
“I don’t know but it makes me wonder if any of our other friends go here too.”
Humming in agreement, you reply with, “That would be so cool, but what makes you think we could search the entire campus for one of our old friends?”
Sunghoon pretends to do the calculations and you huff. “I barely have friends, it’s kinda sad how you’re like the first person I’ve talked to at this university.”
“Yeah? Well, me too. I’m glad you’re the one I got to reconnect with.”
Your eyes widen as you laugh awkwardly. His sudden words really caught you off guard.
“S-same here.”

Okay, so maybe university wasn’t so bad. Neither was organic chemistry, now that you had a friend to study and stress with. Sunghoon was like a beam of light- your savior- but not in a creepy idolistic way. He was the one that always made you laugh after a hard day, scolded you for sleeping so late, and showed up to your dorm with two heavy bags of snacks to get you both through the night before tests.
Sunghoon lets out a groan as he plops down in the seat next to you. He begins to hum a random tune so you shoot him a look. He glances curiously back at you, “What?”
“We need to focus, Sunghoon,” you remind with a warning tone, “unless you want to fail the next exam too.”
He sighs, shifting around to find a comfortably position. You can feel his movements brush against your side since he left essentially no space between the two of you. The warmth emanating from him weirdly comforts you.
“Let’s take a break,” he whines. You check the time, realizing that it indeed has been four hours since you started studying.
“We never had to do this in elementary school,” he grumbles again and you shake your head in exasperation.
“Did you forget we’re adults now?”
He suddenly sits up and you turn to him expectantly. There’s a sudden change in his expression, more of a childish gleam appears in his eyes.
“But that doesn’t mean we can’t have snack breaks too.”
Your eyebrows furrow in confusion, and seemingly out of nowhere Sunghoon pulls out two ice cream bars.
Your mouth drops open.
“How long have you had those and how have they not melted?”
Sunghoon shrugs with a glint in his eyes, handing one to you that you accept with a grateful thanks.
The familiar plastic crinkles in your hand as you smile in wonder. “No way- this was my favorite ice cream when I was like seven.” You glance at Sunghoon, joy quite visible on your face.
“You remember?”
He snorts, avoiding your gaze, “Yeah. Kinda hard to when you were obsessed and ate it practically everyday.“
You proceeded to protest- who could eat ice cream everyday? That called for diabetes, cavities, and probably a whole lot of other health problems you didn’t have the time to deal with. Sunghoon then tells you to shut up and eat your ice cream.
You do, silence filling the air for a couple minutes as you both snacked on the cold, delicious treat. Each bite brought back more and more memories, and you could confirm that it was still your favorite.
Eyeing the treat with a satisfied hum, your gaze is only torn away when you hear Sunghoon let out a laugh.
“What’s so funny?”
Instead of answering, he slowly reaches over to wipe the corner of your mouth with his thumb. You freeze, eyes blinking a little too fast and often to be considered normal.
When he pulls away, acting as if nothing just happened, you turn your head to the side.
It was usually like that.
You’re not sure when Sunghoon got this flirty or whatever- whether it was something he learned in high school or if he was always like that growing up and you were too young and dumb to notice (although you preferred the latter because imagining Sunghoon acting all nice to other girls left a disgruntled feeling in your stomach), you were certainly surprised the first he acted that way.
You really shouldn’t have been shocked though, even at a young age he was the popular guy in school and you were just the average student. Even now, you could see how popular he was. It wasn’t just because of his looks either, Sunghoon just had that personality. He captured everyone’s attention whenever he entered the room and all the mom’s hearts as well with his manners and charisma.
You must’ve gotten too lost in your thoughts because you feel a finger poking your cheek.
“Is the ice cream that good?”
You scoff while swatting his hand away from your face. “Yeah, focus on your own instead of looking at mine.”
You gesture to his own ice cream melting, quite literally about to drip onto his hand. He lets out a surprised noise, reaching to lick it before it dripped onto him, and you burst out in laughter.

But at some point, you don’t think you can brush it off. You can’t say that Sunghoon is naturally so friendly and flirty to everyone, because he’s not.
As you noted before, Sunghoon was just as popular as he was when he was young, which meant he attracted a lot of people (read: girls).
But he wasn’t as nice to them as he was to you, usually if someone approached him he would respond politely and carotid out the conversation until needed- and then turn back to you.
Others followed him around, and he followed you around. Even from the beginning he sat next to you in the dining hall without a second thought.
And when you inquired him, Sunghoon just shrugged nonchalantly and made some dumb excuse that he didn’t have anyone else to sit with. Clearly a lie- who knew how shameless Sunghoon could be by lying straight to your face?
“You’re the only person I know here.”
Okay, maybe not a complete lie. But then again, you knew plenty of people were willing to get to know him and be his friend, and plenty more that wanted to be more than just a friend to him.
You were dumbstruck at how so many strangers could walk up to Sunghoon and act like they were besties. Even more at how casually he would reply while you stood off to the side like a fool because you didn’t make any effort to socialize and instead spent time just trying to adjust and survive college.
Plus you soon came to the realization that you really only had Sunghoon. And you could only hope that he depended on and needed you as much as you needed and depended on him.
Getting through the first quarter of the school year together, most people saw how you and Sunghoon were essentially glued to each others side. (More like Sunghoon was stuck to yours, but same nevertheless).
Perhaps they talked and gossiped, and perhaps you tried to convince yourself you didn’t care when you really did. Sunghoon didn’t seem phased at all, probably since he was used to it. But for you, it was different.
How could you not feel a little self conscious when such a bright and popular student like Sunghoon only hung out with your everyday average student like you?
It made you question why he continued to stay by your side- with a plain, ordinary human like you.
But when he still chooses to sit next to you everyday chirping a bright good morning at you, steals your pencils and erasers constantly, and randomly sends you pictures of memes he thought were funny, you feel reassured and dumb for feeling that way.
Either way, you spent like 80% of your time with him. That meant all his “flirty moves” were bound to reach a limit. A little too much to the point you can’t ignore it and brush it off.
Always opening doors and pulling out chairs for you?
He’s always been polite and well mannered.
Offering you his jacket and getting upset when you reject it?
So maybe he’s just the sulky type.
But ordering a drink with two straws and expecting you two to share it without even asking?
That crossed a line.
I mean, who was willing to share a medium sprite at McDonald’s? (Not you, that’s who).
You’re scared to think there may even be a possibility that Sunghoon likes you.
And when one day he does his daily ‘good morning’ and you excitedly tell him you didn’t fail your exam, he smiles.
But it was a little too breathtaking, to the poor you feel like you’re stuck in time, like you could stare at him for hours.
Yeah, you’re scared you might like him too.

The more time you spend with Sunghoon, the more down bad you realize you are.
You saved a seat for him at lunch today without even thinking about it since he said he was going to be running late. Your mind was already wandering off to what dish he was going to order and what food he was going to steal from your plate as well.
You realized, your feelings had been that way for a long time. You liked Sunghoon since when you first met all those years ago, regardless if you wanted to admit it or not. You saved a seat for him at the lunch table just like you did when you were kids, only now it was years later and you were college students at university.
“Hey,” Sunghoon seeming comes out of nowhere to awaken you from your daze, “thanks for waiting for me.”
You blink, “Oh. Yeah. Of course.”
As you eat, you suppress the urge to offer your food to him as you watch him eat hungrily. What happened? You were supposed to be the one that protested when he took your food. But when he does it this time, a chopstick sneakily approaching your plate, you don’t seem to mind as much.
When you both finish, Sunghoon letting out a satisfied sigh of fullness and you making fun of him for it, you both leave campus together.
Sunghoon easily takes your hand in his as you stroll down the sidewalk.
Oh, that too.
You weren’t sure when it happened, but it was so natural you accepted it a little too naturally. So maybe you did look like a couple. Just maybe.
At some point, you let go of his hand and he shoots you a look. You shake your head, amused. “Go home, hoon. You don’t have to walk me all the way back to my dorm.”
He protests but you raise a hand and wait for him to finish. “You need to get some rest, especially since you skipped breakfast.”
“What? How did you know?”
You cross your arms, “I always know. Now go home and get some rest. I can survive on my own. But text me when you get back, okay?”
His eyes widen like he’s surprised. “Okay. But I’m still coming over later so we can watch the new season of spy x family. I’ll bring the snacks,” he adds with a wink before walking off and you wave, unable to hide the fond smile on your face.
The way he treats you so special, you wonder if he likes you as much as you like him. It must be obvious, can he tell that you like him?
And if you do like each other, then what?

It becomes a normal thing—he kisses your forehead, he calls you over and you both fall asleep in his bed watching anime together—he does everything a boyfriend would do.
He invites you to come over for dinner during the holiday vacation with his family. You almost rejected but at the sheer pleading look on his face, you can’t say no.
You’re nervous. You’re meeting Sunghoon’s family. You’ve heard and seen them a little when you were kids, but that was so long ago. Sunghoon reaches over to squeeze your hand as you wait outside his parents house.
His sister opens the door. Her eyes widen.
“Sunghoon! And…”
You both immediately unfreeze.
“This is y/n, don’t you remember her from elementary school?” He lets go of your hand to gesture quickly. You’re still in awe at seeing his sister all grown up to do anything. She frowns before her eyes light up.
“No freaking way, the y/n that you had-“
He almost lunges forward, yelling something along the lines of “shutupshutupshutup“ and awkwardly laughing as you stand there.
Meeting the rest of his family went a little smoother. Honestly, everything went too well. You got along great with his parents and even warmed up to his sister albeit the rocky introduction earlier.
Everything was great. Except one thing.
Sunghoon only introduced you by your name. No friend, classmate, or another g-word that you preferred not to think about.
His parents didn’t question it. But his sister did. She definitely gave a look of “what’s going on between you two?” and even worse was that you didn’t have an answer.
It made you uneasy, but you decide to focus on spending a nice dinner with his family instead of dwelling on other pressing matters like your relationship with Sunghoon. At least, for the moment.
You’ve been ignoring it for a while and it’s gotten tiring. When Sunghoon walks you home that night, he noticed your unusual quietness.
“How was the dinner? Was something wrong with the food?” He has such a concerned gaze that you almost feel guilty.
Confrontation was one of your weaknesses. Yet you couldn’t keep going on like this, back and forth in a mental game of tug of war- he likes you, he likes you not.
So you can’t help the words that spill out of your mouth.
“You like me.”
He stops in his tracks. You exhale before continuing, “And you have to know that I like you.”
Sunghoon clears his throat, sheepishly scratching the back of his head. “Uh, yes?”
You frown at his response. “That’s it? We just like each other?”
He avoids your gaze and you think this Jamie the first time you’ve seen him act shy.
“Do you want more? I didn’t want to move too fast-“
You raise your arms exasperated- more at the situation itself than him. Your shoes scuff the ground as your voice softly echoes through the night air.
“I dunno? It’s obvious, it’s more than just liking between us. So what is it?”
You knew your feelings were more than that. it was much much more than that.
“Now, what?” You whisper. Taken aback, the silence only lasts for another minute or so before he bursts out laughing
“I mean, I thought we were together already. Wasn’t that obvious? Wasn’t my longterm crush on you obvious? That fact that I spent so much with you and take you to see my family, you didn’t catch on…”
You stutter, gasping for air like a fish out of water. “It really wasn’t,” you mutter under your breath.
He huffs, half amused and half relieved. “You’re right, it’s more than just like. I really like you, is that better? There’s another l word that I won’t say yet but you know, just putting it out there.”
He avoids your gaze at that and confident surges through you after you process the sudden turn of events. You step closer with newfound confidence, looking up at sunghoon from under your lashes and feeling your breaths mix.
“Then... Are we not going to kiss?” You murmur hesitantly once you feel the loud thumping of your heart.
For some reason, your mind flashes back to the time you first saw Sunghoon in class, crawling on the floor like an idiot. But technically, he was your idiot now. Who knew taking organic chemistry would lead to this?
“Says who?” Sunghoon smirks while leaning in.

TODAY’S THE FIRST DAY YOU REALIZE THAT IT’S FALL.
The temperature’s cold out but you don’t think you mind it, in fact. The chillyness in the air actually reassures you of autumn’s presence- that the times were finally changing and you weren’t stuck in summer. You only grabbed a light jacket before going out but looking back, you regret it. Maybe you should’ve gotten thicker padding, you frown.
For a while now, you’ve been walking around your neighborhood to clear your head and get some exercise in. After a long year of work, work, and work, you recognized that you barely went outside and needed to, as people said now, “touch some grass.”
You took the same route every day, going a couple blocks before turning back. After a hectic year, you finally got a well deserved break. Appreciating the peaceful breeze and easy of the trees allowed you to take a step back and reflect.
Occasionally, you would see the same few people either walking their dogs or just taking a nice stroll, just like you.
At least for the first five minutes, everything is how it always is. The same dog behind the fence barks at you every time you pass by and even the pretty fountain that lights up around Christmas season.
You breathe out into the fresh air, tucking your hands into your pockets. Your phone suddenly rings and you frown, squinting down at the phone screen. Taking a seat at a nearby bench to sort it out, you soon realize its just some spam. You huff and turn it off.
Stuffing your phone back into your pocket, you only then realize the presence sitting at the other end of the bench. You peek a glance and your heart stops.
The familiar posture, the familiar face-
it all comes back.
He must notice your gaze because he proceeds to meet your eyes. The shock on your face probably mirrors his.
“Y/n?”
You can barely stumble out a, “Jungwon?”
The two of you sit there unmoving, staring at the other from the other side of the bench.
“What are you doing here?” he gets out first, rubbing his face nervously. You look away, unsure if you could handle eye contact with him.
“I’ve been walking this route for a while now. I, I didn’t know you did too.”
He softens, “Yeah, I started recently. Sometimes I take Maeumi with me.”
There’s a brief pause before he shakes his head, “Sorry.”
“There’s nothing to be sorry for…“ you fall silent. You once thought the awkwardness would kill you, but strangely enough, you don’t feel that way now.
Instead, your brain threatens to take you back- all the memories overwhelm you. And you have no idea if you want it to or not.

Spring.
The first time you met Jungwon, the sun was shining outside and you were half asleep while studying in the library. Perhaps you were snoring a little bit- Jungwon claims it was quite loud- and being the nice guy he was, he went over to shake your shoulder.
And perhaps you didn’t mind being woken up abruptly- if it was by a boy as cute as the one that you opened your eyes to. You shoot up and he stifles a chuckle at your reaction.
“Sorry to wake you, but I think you were snoring a little bit.”
A bit, huh? You look away furiously in embarrassment and Jungwon allows himself a grin.
“Thank you, uh…”
He coughs, “Jungwon.”
You shoot him a friendly albeit flustered smile. “Thanks, Jungwon.”
You didn’t expect to see him the next day, or the day after that. You noted how studious he was, always with his nose stuck in a book or scribbling something down in his notebook furiously. Still, you would find a seat a couple of tables away to get comfortable.
Obviously, studying took too much energy out of you and you would need a break. And (unknowingly), your eyes would drift to him.
It just became a habit, to study the boy. You didn’t realize it back then, but he had definitely noticed. Regardless of that fact, maybe Jungwon also enjoyed staring at you (in a non-creepy way he hoped).
He picked up on the way you furrowed your eyebrows while reading something presumably difficult, or how you brushed your hair out of your face when you were frustrated. Even the times you smiled triumphantly and he supposes then that you got another question right.
All those things, he thinks he liked it. No, he knew he liked it.
Of course, it was just so that you continued to see him at the library. Your little hobby of “watching” Jungwon had to have been discovered at some point.
The one day you look over and find that jungwon’s already staring at you, your pencil falls out of your hand and onto the floor.
He cocks his head and quickly, like you were trying to escape the situation (and you were indeed), you duck under the table to retrieve it.
Only to bang your head on the table while getting back up.
Letting out a silent cry of pain, a pair of shoes come into your sight. Cautiously, you glance up.
What did you expect- of course it was Jungwon who came over.
He graced you with a dashing yet amused expression, unspoken words written all over his face. You open your mouth but nothing comes out. It’s only then that Jungwon realizes he never got your name that other day.
Even though he’s seen you multiple times, you’ve almost become a part of his routine. Yet at this point, he still has no clue who you are.
“Are you alright?” He has the softest concerned look and you wish you weren’t as clumsy as you were.
“Y-yeah, I’m fine. Sorry if I disturbed you.”
Whether you’re apologizing for bumping your head or getting caught straight up staring at him, you wish you knew. Even then, Jungwon seems surprised and he quickly shakes his head.
“No, no. you didn’t. Maybe I should be the one apologizing,” he sheepishly scratches his neck. You can’t help but let out a little laugh and he stops, confused.
The whole situation was a bit funny. You two were strangers, apologizing for the littlest of things while pretending as if you didn’t spend the last week watching the other instead of studying.
Learning each other’s habits and quirks that even your own mother didn’t know- only out of mere curiosity, though. Or at least that’s what you figured.
You didn’t expect him to sit at your table soon after.
Talking to him was natural- laughing and joking and certainly, stressing together. So was asking for each other’s numbers, which was labeled for “convenience” purposes.
The fluttering in your chest, warmth spreading through your body, that came normally too.
Were you waiting for him to ask you out? Sure. Were you afraid to ask him out first? Of course.
You really didn’t have to wait too long. You might’ve teased at it for too long, and held back from asking him yourself due to fear. What if Jungwon was just being nice?
Although the shared snacks, blush on his cheeks, and heartfelt notes he left in the library for you that were all stored in a special part of your heart said otherwise.

“Fine,” you cross your arms playfully. “Then how do you do it?”
As Jungwon explains the answer, you pay more close attention to his face while he speaks rather than actually finding out the answer. His eyebrows were furrowed and gaze sharp as he went through step by step.
You nod, although your mind is plagued by thoughts radically different from what you should really be focusing on.
“-hello? Are you listening?”
You perk up, “Hm? Yes, what? Me?”
Jungwon chuckles, and you can’t seem to tear your gaze away from his prominent dimples. He sighs, pouting.
“I was working this problem so hard for you and here you are being all distracted.”
You cough, “You were the one distracting me,” you mumble. He holds a hand to his ear, acting confused.
“Wha-? What did you say?”
You push his arm playfully and Jungwon laughs. His hand rests a few inches away from yours, and you suppress the urge to move closer to him.
“Nothing! I said nothing.” To distract yourself you tap your phone and stare at the illuminated screen. Looking at the time and the windows outside, you grimace.
“It’s late,” you turn to Jungwon, “Do you want to go home? We can always continue next time.”
He nods, beginning to close your books. Turns out, Jungwon was indeed a genius as you observed before. When he saw you struggling, his eyes lit up as he offered to help. You greatly appreciated it, offering snacks in return.
And it’s not like he was bad at teaching, you were just easily distracted. Distracted by him, that was. You couldn’t help it.
“Do you have a ride?” He asks casually while putting stuff in his bag.
“Nope. I’ll just walk. It’s not far,” you reassure him.
“Then I’ll walk you home,” he grins and you pretend to act shocked. “What manners!” you exaggerate and he plays along, giggling in agreement.
On the walk back with your books in hand and Jungwon by your side, your shoes kick the soft petals on the sidewalk. “It really feels like spring now.”
“I agree,” he replies softly. As the space between you two lessens, you feel the warmth lingering from his fingertips. Glancing down, you find your hands just barely grazing each other’s.
Jungwon must notice your action, because without another word he swiftly grabs your hand, interlocking your fingers. The pace of your heart picks up, face revealing your bashful expression.
In between Jungwon’s shy gaze and the dim shine of the streetlights, you feel your heart bloom a bit more.

Summer.
The sound of knocking causes your body to jolt up. After spending the last hour panicking over what to wear and worrying about basically everything that didn’t matter, you didn’t realize what time it was.
“Coming!”
You grab your bag off the couch and rush to open the door. Excitement spreads through your body at the thought of seeing Jungwon, your beloved who you hadn’t seen in a while due to work. Because of the lack of contact, he planned a special date out for the two of you.
You’re greeted by Jungwon’s smiling face before suddenly you’re brought into his embrace. His scent surrounds you, filling all your senses.
“Hi,” your voice is muffled.
You can feel the sensation of him laughing and it causes a smile to grow on your face too.
“Hi. You look gorgeous.”
You pulls back so you can see his beaming face once more. “You don’t look too bad yourself,” you cock your head, offering a grin.
“Ready?” He offers an arm and you take it gladly.
“Of course.”
Jungwon takes you around the city, echoes of your shared laughter filling the atmosphere. The sun greeted you brightly, filling you with its warm rays. It was truly the happiest day you had in a while, all spent with him.
When you tug Jungwon’s shirt so that he stumbles closer, eyes widening, it doesn’t take long for him to get the memo.
He connects the distance between you.
Jungwon invites you to his place that warm summer night, hair falling into his eyes as he moves to unlock the door. Out of habit you brush his bangs off his face, softly laughing when his ears turn red.
“Just be prepared when you see Maeumi- he might go a little crazy.”
You nod, nerves jittery. You don’t how many times Jungwon went on a rant about his dog, the affection that sparkled in his eyes was like no other, and here you were about to meet said object of his desires.
-as much as you wished it was you, you don’t think you were quite on Maeumi’s level yet.
Jungwon grabs your hand, leading you in as you hear the scampering paws of his dog. Your heart melts at the sight of Maeumi approaching you and you instantly understand why it seemed like Jungwon was utterly obsessed with his dog.
You fall to your knees, cooing and showering Maeumi with as much love as possible.
“Hey,” Jungwon jokes while scratching his head, “Save some for me.”

It was too hot to go out. It was too hot to do anything. It was too hot, period.
You groan, pushing Jungwon off you in the midst of his complaints. You shoot him a glare, rolling over to capture as much of the cool surface of the couch as possible.
It was summer, indeed. The a/c was on yet you felt like your body temperature was way over the normal average. You feel the sweat collect on your neck, letting out a sigh.
Jungwon didn’t make it any better, wanting to be near you at all times even when the temperature made you want to jump into the nearest body of water.
As much as he protested, you couldn’t handle the heat. The Netflix series he put on tv for both of you to watch was soon forgotten, the distraction of the heat made it impossible to focus.
“How are you not affected at all?” You mutter at Jungwon who was eyeing you with a displeased look based on the fact that you pushed him away.
“My love for you withstands all the seasons,” he extends his arms out wide cheesily while your nose scrunches. His arms fall to his side with a thud as he sighs.
“You’re right. It’s way too hot.”
Still, his hand trails it’s way to yours. You can’t suppress the smile on the face. Not once did you expect Jungwon to be this clingy, and you weren’t complaining.
“What time do you have to go back?” You ask.
He groans, “In like an hour.”
You unconsciously pout, thinking about how your time together will be cut short. It was a mutual thing- you both understood that the other was busy. You each had your own priorities and that was okay.
Time spent together was just a gift.
“What about ice cream?” He suggests, head perking up.
“You know me too well.”

Autumn.
You run into his embrace, gladly inhaling his comforting scent.
“It feels like I haven’t seen you in forever,” Jungwon murmurs, voice muffled by the way his face buries into your body.
“I know. I’m sorry.” You almost feel tears prick the corner of your eyes- it really felt like the last time you saw Jungwon was over a year ago.
After school and work picked up again, your schedules never matched up. In your current stages, life was so busy- it was almost like the world was trying to keep you two apart. And that meant your time with Jungwon was limited.
“I missed you.” If anything you squeeze him tighter, never wanting to let go. Phone calls and texts weren’t enough. Nothing was enough, except for being in his presence, being able to reach out and touch his cute dimples.
And that’s exactly what you do.
He stands still, amused as you fondly poke his cheek. His hand comes up to cover your own, rubbing comfortable circles into your skin.
“How did you do on your exam today?”
Your eyes lower to the ground. You spent so much time working. So much time and effort out into your studies, away from Jungwon, and it barely paid off.
“I… I didn’t do how I wanted, to be honest.”
His grip tightens as he apologizes. “Hey, I know how hard you worked, y/n. I know you’re capable of so much more. One score doesn’t mean anything, alright?”
“But… that means I have to work a lot harder, Jungwonie…” You gaze at him with sorrowful eyes. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry that I’m-“
He stops you with a finger to your lips. “Don’t apologize. Just because we can’t see each other in person doesn’t mean we aren’t together. You know I’m always with you, right? I’m always cheering you and supporting you.”
You nod, unable to wipe the guilty frown off your face as you hug your boyfriend again.
“Don’t worry, baby. Things will work out. You’ll be fine. I love you, don’t forget that.”
“Yeah. I love you too.”
But that tiny insignificant fear began to bloom inside you, would you be able to make it work?
You really, really hoped you could.

Unread texts light up your phone as you continue typing. You rub your temples in exhaustion before deciding to take a break.
Just a ten minute nap- you’ll allow yourself that much.
Grabbing your phone to set an alarm, you see the messages sent by Jungwon.
You frown, didn’t you already tell him that you were busy?
Exasperation runs through you for a split second before it fades away to remorse. How could you let your stress get to your head? To ever make you feel irritated by your caring boyfriend?
You tried to call him earlier and he didn’t answer. It also happened three days ago, except he was the one that called and you couldn’t answer. Most of your messages now were short ones either telling the other good morning or night and not to skip meals.
As much as you missed him, you didn’t have the luxury to mourn your loss time with him and Maeumi. Your school was at the top of your priorities, and it always was. You couldn’t afford to stop now. You and Jungwon both worked hard in your respective ways.
There was no way you could give up, and neither could he. If that meant sacrificing parts of your life, you would do it.
Turning off the lights and getting settled, you decide on a reply while lying down. You keep clicking the backspace button, huffing.
Why couldn’t you find something to say?
Eventually, the chat is left open and unanswered in your hands as you yawn, unable to prevent your eyes from closing and falling into a dreamless slumber without realizing it.
Jungwon notices that you’ve seen his text, and yet you’ve sent no response. He doesn’t even remember the last time he’s seen your face. He doesn’t remember when you both stopped putting in an effort to see each other.

Winter.
You finely found a date to meet up. To talk. The look on your face when you finally see him, it takes a lot for you to not break down.
The expression painted on his face, you somehow knew it was the same on yours. The same thoughts running through your head. What happened to us? Why to us?
You both knew it was coming. But how, when, everything in itself-
it was never clear.
When you first met Jungwon, everything was easy. You had no clue when life started getting in the way, and why you chose that over your relationship with him.
Perhaps there were too many underlying reasons. Why you had no time to even think about being with him, having a future with him. Perhaps that was when you knew it was the end.
A painful end with the painful throbbing of your heart. The snapping shut of a book. The curtains falling to the ground with a thud.

Autumn.
You were the happiest with him and the saddest when you were no longer together.
In this moment, facing Jungwon after months- has it been a year yet?- have gone by, you can’t find yourself able to remember even one of the several reasons why you broke up.
Things didn’t work out, yet you can’t help but wonder what it would be like if you were still together.
But it’s only a slight wander away. A single thought because you took the time to heal. It was a painful healing process that allowed you to learn and grow a lot. You feel okay seeing Jungwon, thinking about Jungwon. Honestly, it was good enough that you were able to love him.
You loved Jungwon and even though the situation changed, your feelings didn’t. Jungwon must feel the same, you can tell by the way he looks at you. Just like he’s used to holding all the memories and emotions and keeping them from bursting out.
All of it in a blink of an eye.
“Jungwon…” you start off softly, and he shakes his head.
“It’s alright. You don’t have to say anything.”
Possibly that was your mistake back then. Not speaking up for the one you loved.
“No,” you state firmly. “I want to.”
His eyes widen but he doesn’t protest.
“You don’t have to respond,” you exhale shakily, “But I just wanted to say I missed you and I’m glad I got to see you today.”
You unconsciously rub your sweaty palms against each other, self conscious about if you’ve just made a mistake or not.
He takes a deep breath and holds out a hand. You glance down, bewildered. Jungwon makes the effort to lighten up the atmosphere, giving you that same heartfelt smile.
“I’m Jungwon… and I’m also very glad that you’re the one I bumped into today.”
When did the space between you two on the bench get so small?
You beam while letting out a short chuckle, and reach out to shake his hand.
Your book was closed, but that didn’t mean another one couldn’t begin. One with a pretty good ending, that’s all you needed.

📁 SHH SECRET RELATIONSHIP - PSH

YOU NEVER THOUGHT YOU'D FIND YOURSELF IN THIS SITUATION, let alone with someone like sunghoon. after all, he was your sworn enemy—or so everyone thought. in public, the two of you couldn’t stand each other. insults flew, glares were exchanged, and everyone knew you were at war. but behind closed doors, it was a different story.
you sneak into the empty classroom, the one that’s always deserted after hours. your heart races as you check the hallway, making sure no one followed you. it’s risky, but the thrill is half the fun.
“you're late,” a familiar voice drawls from the shadows, and you turn to see sunghoon leaning against a desk, his arms crossed, a smirk playing on his lips.
“and you're as annoying as ever,” you retort, but your tone lacks any real bite.
he steps closer, and suddenly, you forget how to breathe. it’s ridiculous how easily he can do that to you. he cups your face with his hands, his touch surprisingly gentle for someone who spent the whole day throwing snide remarks your way.
“i missed you,” he murmurs, his eyes softening as they meet yours.
“missed you too,” you whisper back, the confession barely audible, but you know he hears it. he always does.
the world outside that room fades away as he leans in, his lips brushing against yours in a soft, sweet kiss. it’s slow, unhurried, as if you have all the time in the world. in these moments, it’s hard to remember why you’re supposed to hate him.
he pulls back just enough to rest his forehead against yours, his breath warm against your skin. “why do we even bother pretending we don’t like each other?” he asks, his voice tinged with amusement.
you sigh, threading your fingers through his hair. “because it’s fun,” you reply with a grin. “and because if people knew, they’d never let us live it down.”
he laughs, and it’s a sound you’ve grown to love. it’s rare to hear him laugh so freely, without the walls he puts up around everyone else. you’re glad you get to be the one to see this side of him.
“you’re impossible, you know that?” he teases, pressing a quick kiss to your nose.
“takes one to know one,” you shoot back, sticking your tongue out at him playfully.
his eyes sparkle with mischief as he pulls you closer, his arms wrapping around your waist. “you’re lucky you’re cute,” he murmurs against your lips before kissing you again, this time deeper, more passionate.
your hands find their way to the collar of his shirt, tugging him closer as you lose yourself in the kiss. every touch, every caress, feels like a secret only the two of you share.
“we should get going,” you say reluctantly when you finally pull away, reality creeping back in. “someone’s bound to notice if we’re gone too long.”
sunghoon groans, resting his chin on top of your head. “yeah, yeah, but can’t we stay just a little longer?”
you chuckle, giving him one last peck on the lips before stepping out of his embrace. “later,” you promise, reaching for his hand and giving it a squeeze. “meet me here tomorrow?”
he grins, that familiar cocky smile that makes your heart skip a beat. “wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
with one last glance, you slip out of the classroom, already missing his warmth. as you walk down the hallway, you prepare to slip back into your role, ready for the glares and the insults.
