Last day of Ichigo x Ryou weekend, Swaying Hearts! I did a little redraw of some panels from chapter 14

Everybody shut up I just realized that this “kiss” may NOT have actually happened.

We never actually SEE their lips touch, they just come really close and then Ichigo turns into a cat. “Don’t do that, jerk!” is too vague to rely on for confirmation. Why does this matter? Well, in the manga Ichigo doesn’t need to kiss anyone to turn into a cat.

Ryou explains it here when he teases her, she will turn into a cat regardless as long as her emotions run high. This is slightly different from the anime, because Ichigo actually does turn into a cat whenever kissed. So when the scene happens in the anime, though not explicitly shown it is implied that he did kiss her.

This actually gives me more peace of mind, because it really shows how Ryou respects her boundaries and autonomy more than anyone else. He teases her, but as shown in volume 4 he wouldn’t just steal a kiss from her unless he knows she returns his feelings, even under the pretense of it being “just an experiment”. 

Ichigo was actually the one that seemed more like she wanted to kiss him, and was annoyed he wasn’t serious about it 🥴

Forgive the cringey writing, it is an old fanfic of mine, but it was the only one I had that was still within the original storyline (for the most part) that only involved Ichigo and Ryou, and I didn’t have time to write anything new for this weekend. 😅 The original version of this was slightly longer (I cut some parts out), and I used the English names, but I changed them for the purpose of posting it here (forgive me if I missed a name change). So without further adieu, enjoy my crappy fanfic!

Ryou? What is he doing here? Ichigo’s thoughts were hazing, but she could still recognize who was in front of her.

“Ichigo, are you okay?” Ryou asked urgently, reaching for her hand. Ichigo’s vision began to blur.

“Shirogane?” She sighed, swaying on her feet. She began to feel as if she were moving. In her blurred vision, she saw Ryou moving closer to her, reaching for her back. The world went black.

“Don’t worry; I’m here to protect you.” Who was that? The Blue Knight, Ichigo’s mind automatically answered its own question.

But it sounds like someone else I know, her mind argued. She heard another sound: a door shutting and somebody walking closer.

But who? Her mind was trying to make her concede.

I don’t know….

Someone sighed next to her; she felt something cool on the skin of her forehead, then her cheek. Light leaked into her dark dream; a shadow loomed over her.

“Shirogane,” she whispered out loud.

“Ichigo,” he breathed several inches from her face; it felt warm against her skin. “I was beginning to worry you wouldn’t wake up.” He smiled faintly, a look of concern in his soft blue eyes. Ichigo felt her face heat up; she was blushing. She looked away from his face to examine the room and to stop her blushing. The room was dark, the only light source was from the cracks in the blue curtains; in the small light, the room was practically empty, save for a desk in the corner.

“You’re in my room,” Ryou told her; he had noticed that her eyes were wandering. She had already guessed where she was; she had stumbled into Ryou’s room a few months ago when Keiichiro had suggested that she ask him for advice. Momentarily, her mind was distracted; trying to remember what she had needed advice about, then she remembered the really important question that needed to be asked.

“What happened?” She turned her eyes back to his face; he still looked as if he were afraid she would die at any moment.

“You passed out,” he answered softly.

“No, I meant before that.” Ryou hesitated, debating whether or not he wanted to answer the question.

“Well, from what the others have told me and what little I saw,” he paused, staring intently at Ichigo’s face, “That ‘Blue Knight,’ or whatever he calls himself, pretty much took care of Quiche. The girls showed up about the same time Quiche’s reinforcements did. Bu-Ling said you were the one to get rid of them…” his voice trailed off, waiting for Ichigo to reinforce this statement; Bu-Ling was known for making up crazy stories.

“I think I remember that…” Now that she thought about it, the event came back to the surface of her memory. She could see those alien whack-jobs running for it, the girls running closer to her, the Blue Knight leaning down to whisper softly in her ear…

“Anyway, that Blue Knight guy was leaving when I showed up. That’s when you passed out.”

“He left before you showed up,” Ichigo realized out loud.

“Uh, yeah, I guess he did…” Ryou looked slightly uncomfortable now; he leaned back in his chair, folding his arms across his chest, shifting his eyes away from Ichigo. Why was this detail important? Ichigo wondered to herself. Why did it matter that Ryou wasn’t there when the Blue Knight was, that he happened to show up right after the Blue Knight had left?

“I will always protect you,” the Blue Knight’s voice echoed in Ichigo’s thoughts. Now she remembered why that voice sounded familiar. Ryou’s eyes had made their way back to Ichigo’s face by now, a look of anxiousness in them. He couldn’t be, she thought to herself. She stared deeper into his eyes; it was the longest she’d ever looked into Ryou’s eyes. Or could he be the Blue Knight?

“I should probably take you home,” he interrupted her thoughts. “Your parents are probably wondering where you are, seeing how you were too sick to go anywhere.” Ichigo remained silent, determined not to lose her train of thought, though she probably should go home… Focus! She told herself. She needed to confront him about this now. She opened her mouth, but no words came out. She closed it and tried again: nothing. Ryou had stood up, expecting Ichigo to sit up. When she didn’t, concern colored his face again.

“Are you alright?” He sat on the edge of the bed, touching her forehead with his cool hand. “Hmm, maybe I should just tell your parents where you are, but leave you here; you don’t look like you should be moved right now.”

“Why were you there?” Ichigo blurted out as Ryou had reached for his phone. He looked a little caught off guard by this question. Most likely, he doesn’t want to answer it, she thought to herself. Once again Ryou hesitated before he answered, looking down to avoid Ichigo’s stare.

“I… I was coming to visit you,” he admitted sheepishly, looking up through his lashes, a blush spreading across his cheekbones. Ichigo had not expected that answer. Why would Ryou want to visit her while she was sick? He didn’t care that much. Did he? The answer was written all across Ryou’s face: yes, yes he did care that much. Ichigo felt something warm spread throughout her body. Ryou cares about me, she marveled. But why was she excited about this? She tried to stop the warm feeling from spreading any farther; she didn’t care if Ryou liked her, she didn’t need him to like her. Looking at Ryou’s face though, she felt that she wanted him to like her. But why? Ryou’s blush got even darker as he waited for Ichigo to respond. What could she say to that though?

“Why were you coming to visit me?” Maybe if he clarified, then this mess would be cleared up. Ryou looked away, not wanting to answer the question. Then it must be true, Ichigo realized, he does have hidden feelings.

“I should call your parents,” Ryou stood and walked hastily toward the door; if he was out of the room, he wouldn’t have to answer her questions. Ichigo stared at the door as it shut behind Ryou. Great, she thought, now what do I do? I don’t want to hurt his feelings, but I obviously can’t return the feelings; at least, not with Masaya around… What? She rejected the thought. No, I can’t return the feelings ever, because there are no feelings, even if Masaya wasn’t around. She heaved a deep sigh. This was going to complicate things… a lot.

The look on Ryou’s face! 😆 Whose fault is it that Ryou is lacking in people skills, Keiichiro?

I’m just going to flood my feed with Ichigo and Ryou, ok? Ok!
