Didn’t have time to draw anything new that would fit with the day 1 prompt, but I still wanted to show my favorite ship some love with a few of my old fan arts! The masquerade one I did in 2019, the Mew Ichigo and Ryou in black is from 2016 (the background was added in 2018), and it was a redraw of one I did back in 2010. Feel free to share my original post, but please don’t repost as your own.

I swear this version of Seiji fell out of one of my fan fictions, and I love him to pieces! 😍 I’m so hoping this isn’t the only episode he’s in!
These two make me smile! 🥰

When he smiles at me like that, I can’t help but smile, too!
We didn’t get Ichigo and Ryou’s scene from chapter 3 in episode 2,

but look what’s in the preview for episode 4!

I knew they wouldn’t leave it out! Hopefully they keep the rest of the scene intact with the manga (aside from it taking place at a different time).
One scene we did get in episode 2 was this:

This is one of my favorite scenes in the manga (I would love to be called an ultimate weapon 😆), and hopefully since it was included, it means they’ll have the follow up scene that takes place in chapter 14:

Assuming this season ends with the Tokyo Tower battle, we should get to see this before the season is over, because this happens right before the moth hatches. I’m hoping they don’t drop the ball, and that this is included because it just adds so much more depth to Ryou’s character, and to his relationship with Ichigo.

TOKYO MEW MEW NEW (2022)

Anime vs. Manga — IchiRyou ♡
😂🤣

DO NOT TOUCH!! C’mon join my stream, PM me please

It’s finally here! Tokyo Mew Mew New! Ok, it’s been out for a week now, but I needed some time for my brain to digest all that happened in the first episode 😅 (and to rewatch the episode 3 times just because). My initial feelings? I loved it! Tokyo Mew Mew is like a drug to me, I could watch it all day every day and never get sick of it, and this adaptation was no exception. I loved the callbacks to the old anime in the OP and ending, I loved the comical facial expressions, I loved the passion the voice actors gave, I loved the music (kind of gave me Sailor Moon Crystal vibes), I loved the animation, and (of course) I loved every second that included my boy Ryou! ☺️ Now I didn’t just love it for the nostalgia (although I did have legit tears of happiness in my eyes the whole time because it just reminded me of happier days), I also liked a lot of the changes they made as well.
First of all, I really like that they made Ichigo a high school student. This being Japan’s school system, that means she’s at least 15; something about Ichigo being 12/13 in the original just really bothered me, and I found it odd that so many fans were upset that 4kids upped their ages (of all things to be mad about 😆), and now we see that even the creator was ok with the ages going up (because all the changes were made or approved by Ikumi). It just makes more sense for Ichigo to be in high school and have the relationship she has with Aoyama; it gets way too intense for a 12/13 year old.
Speaking of Ichigo and Aoyama’s relationship, I love how they’ve changed it! In the manga, and even the old anime, Ichigo seemed to be just another fan girl who just got lucky with catching Aoyama’s attention; she was kind of shallow in the beginning and didn’t seem to care too much about Aoyama’s actual interests, she just wanted him to smile at her. This newer Ichigo is way better; she’s not caught up in Aoyama’s popularity (she didn’t even know who he was), when he does catch her attention, she’s genuinely interested in getting to know him as a person and not just a pretty face, and then on their date, she admits she knows very little about animals and conservation, but she’s willing to learn more, and has a meaningful debate with Aoyama about the subject. This is a great start for them that creates a good foundation for their relationship.
In a strange way, it also kind of puts the “other love interest” on an even playing ground. Ichigo has only really known Aoyama for a week or so longer than Ryou Shirogane, so the development of their relationship is pretty much on the same level. It leaves the story wide open to expand that even further, and maybe we’ll see some wavering on Ichigo’s part? (Of course, I know they’re not going to change the canon couple, but that doesn’t mean we won’t get to see Ryou’s feelings more clearly and feel all the feels when he’s rejected 😭). There’s little doubt in my mind that they won’t leave out the triangle; they have Ichigo and Ryou (almost) kissing in the ending for crying out loud. Hopefully they’ll do my boy justice!
So far they’re off to a good start in that regard. Some of the bigger changes I liked in this new version was the changes they made to Ryou and Minto. While I love Ryou whole heartedly, he does some questionable things in the manga that make you want to cringe or just slap him. One of those questionable behaviors is his blasé take on stalking Ichigo; in this new rendition, Minto has taken over that trait (granted, it is probably at Ryou’s request, but at least he is no longer the one staring at her from (behind) a tree). Minto being a Mew Mew first I also really like. In the Manga she is very passionate about being a superhero (a trait they kind of let go of, unfortunately, in the old anime), so her being the first just makes that part of her all the more prominent; and it showcases her and Ryou’s snarky friendship (which I’m sensing is going to be one of my new favorite things about this adaptation), that was just kind of in the background in the manga, and easily missed if you weren’t paying close attention (and it was pretty much cut out of the old anime).
All in all, I liked a lot of the changes they made, but were there changes I didn’t like? Sure, there’s a few. I’m not a fan of Moe’s new design (nitpicky, I know, I just miss her old look). I’m also a little bummed we didn’t get to see Ichigo and the other girls defend Retasu from her bullies, but I guess there’s probably a reason they left that out. Finally, while I do find it hilarious that Keiichiro came to pick up Ichigo in a pink semi truck, I miss the red car (it just made him look so much cooler!).
KYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can hear the ryou fans screaming XD

So Tokyo Mew Mew New is finally out! I’m working on my thoughts on the first episode, and will maybe post it tomorrow, but first I had a random thought about tomorrow’s new episode. It’s been said that it will focus on Mew Lettuce’s introduction, so naturally, I turned my attention to that particular chapter in the manga, and was reminding that a certain hilarious scene also takes place in said chapter:

Now, I don’t see why they would cut this scene, they included it in the old anime, granted, it was in a filler, two episodes after we meet Retasu, but they included it none the less. Or was it less? There’s something else that happens in this scene in the manga that the older anime left out:

Ichigo makes Ryou a snack, and look at his smile! ☺️ It’s such a cute bonding moment between the two of them, and I hope it gets included in this new adaptation (and if it’s in episode two, even better!).

I’m hoping they make the love triangle a little more prominent this time around; I know there’s no way she’s going to end up with Ryou (they’re not going to change the canon couple), but I still want to feel all the feels of rooting for Ryou! 😭
He’s better than I could have hoped for ❤️ Although, I do kind of miss the old coloring for his eyes (that teal blue was to die for).

RYO SHIROGANE in EPISODE 1 of TOKYO MEW MEW NEW

ICHIRYO ↗ first meeting

You have been chosen to become a brave hero who will defend the Earth!
Definitely one of the highlights in this first episode! 😆 I love the Ichigo and Minto banter, and Ryou just smacking his head in frustration 🤣

my favorite scene of the episode

Another hypothetical question:
What if... the outer senshis had rescued Princess Serenity just in time during the Moon Kingdom attack? (of course they were disobey Queen Serenity's order)
It’s been a while since I read the third arc of the manga and since I watched season 3 of Crystal, so my memory might be a little rough on this, but I’m pretty sure the fall of the moon kingdom was the first time Saturn had been awakened and used to reset everything, meaning the other outer senshi didn’t know what would actually happen when Saturn was awoken (correct me if I’m wrong, my memory could be failing me). Now, for this hypothetical scenario to work, the outer senshi would have to have prior knowledge of what would happen when Saturn awoke, and that would be their reason for intervening (to keep Saturn dormant). Whether or not they would succeed would depend on if they were able to reach Earth in time to prevent Endymion’s death; if Endymion dies, Serenity is going to find a way to kill herself, no question about that, and if Serenity dies, the Queen is going to awaken Saturn to reset everything. Now, the game changer would be if Pluto was in on it, or if it was just Uranus and Neptune; Uranus and Neptune on their own I do not think would succeed, however, if they had Pluto, they would be able to travel to the exact moment in time they need to save Endymion, and if anything unexpected happened, Pluto could stop time (granted, she would die, but that would be a small price in comparison to the whole solar system being destroyed). I don’t feel like Uranus and Neptune would be punished though, because the Queen loves her daughter more than anything (obviously, if she’s willing to awaken Saturn just so the princess can be reborn again), I feel like she would forgive their disobedience if it ended up saving the princess.
Now, we do find out in the final arc that it was really Galaxia, who had been taken over by Chaos, that was responsible for Metalia attacking the moon kingdom (and literally every other villain Sailor Moon had to fight), so even if the outer senshi were able to stop the destruction of the moon kingdom in that instant, I think it would have been short-lived, because Galaxia was coming for the Silver Crystal no matter what. At some point, Saturn was going to have to reset everything, or Queen Serenity, or Princess Serenity (whoever was the true wielder or the Silver Crystal at that time), would have to become strong enough to defeat Galaxia and Chaos.
What if… Ryô Shirogane IS actually the Blue Knight instead of Masaya Aoyama in the entire time?
Interesting way to phrase a question; do you mean, do I think that’s true or that the new anime will have this twist, or is this hypothetical? No, it’s not true, and I don’t think the new anime will deviate that far from the original story. Now if this is just a hypothetical, daydreaming scenario, I’ll humor you and entertain this thought for a moment.
Ryou as the Blue Knight would be interesting. Especially if he was like Deep Blue’s brother or something, and came to Earth specifically to find people with the right DNA who could stop Deep Blue. Just like with any society, I’m sure there were “non believers,” and Ryou could have been the one leading the charge against Deep Blue. It would make Aoyama’s character a little harder to decide if he is good or evil; like does he have his own personality and thoughts, or is he entirely controlled by Deep Blue? That could either be interesting for his character or it could just create more Aoyama haters. It would also make Ryou’s character and intentions a little more ambiguous too; is he actually doing this for the good of his people or the people of Earth, or does he just have a personal vendetta against Deep Blue and is willing to use whoever he can in order to kill Deep Blue? (Man, I might have write myself a personal fanfic just to see where all this goes XD). Ryou being the Blue Knight would also make the blond hair make sense; I never understood why Aoyama would suddenly have blond hair as the Blue Knight, when Deep Blue has black hair (unless they were trying to make the distinction between “good” and “evil” using hair color, but that seems a little twisted XD). I think it would also put the shipping war on even ground; if Ryou were the “good” alien, and Aoyama were the “bad” alien, then it might be harder for Ichigo to choose, and we might have seen a little more wavering in her decision (Quiche is just a bad option all the way around, so we’re not even going to include him in this discussion). I’ve gotta say, I like anything that will land Ryou on top in the shipping war lol. Now of course, if Ryou were the Blue Knight, we’d have to change his entire back story; we could keep some elements, like Deep Blue could have been responsible for the death of Ryou’s parents, but his parents wouldn’t have been human in this scenario. And then there’s Keiichiro, and how would he fit into all this, and how does he even know Ryou if Ryou is an alien? (Maybe I will write this out, once I figure out all these little details). Aoyama’s backstory wouldn’t really have to change, he would just not be the one saving Ichigo all the time, and of course, everyone else’s backstory’s would stay the same, except Keiichiro (and I’m going to have to think on that one, because he deserves a well fleshed out back story)… Well I wrote way more here than I intended to. Thanks for the fanfic prompt, that I will write for myself and then not share with anyone XD I now have entertainment for the next few months (or just a new source of stress, as writing can go sometimes lol).

I think I speak for the whole TMM community when I say it’s been really hard to smile today. Mia Ikumi created a whole world and characters that I have adored for about 18 years now. Not only that, but it was the first manga series I got my brother to read, and sparked a common interest between us that depend our friendship; he sadly passed away in November, so now losing the creator of the series that brought my brother and I so close together hits me hard. I pray you are resting in peace with my brother, Ikumi-San. You will be dearly missed by so many.
