The most toxic thing any of my fictional boyfriends did was raise my standards.

You’re laying on top of Bakugou as the night passes on. It’s late, too late, past his old man bedtime, but Bakugou stays with you. Holds you tight on top of him, warm hands caressing your sides, mouth pecking at your hairline whenever you laugh at whatever’s on tv. It’s a peaceful moment, domestic and soft, and he’s willing to silently admit that he never wants it to end. But of course, you disturb the silence.

“How come we’ve never talked about having kids? Or marriage?” You ask him, cheek smushed against his own as you both watch the colorful images flash by on tv. He arched a blond brow though, breath caught in his throat. How could you drop a bomb like that so casually? Talk about these kinds of things that have been known to cause arguments and force breakups within other’s relationships? He has to realize though, that you’re not others.

“What about it?” Bakugou grunts, softly pulling you away by your nape so that he can look at you. The colors from the screen paint your face pretty, your soft downturned smile, the cheekiness in your eyes, the way your pointer finger traces the hard contours of his face. He thinks that if you asked him to set the world aflame, he’d do it without question.

“Do you want marriage? Kids? Would you ever want to live a domestic life with me, Katsuki?” You whisper, cupping his cheek to bring him into a kiss. He hums against your lips, thinking, stealing a few more kisses before he answers.

“I’ve wanted marriage since the day I met you.” He replies honestly, fingers rubbing soothing circles into your hips. You snort though, smiling, as you briefly hide your face in his neck.

“God, you’re so fucking obsessed with me.” You snicker, chortling loudly though when he can’t help but run his fingers over your more ticklish areas. He relents when you concede though, and you pull back to look at him again.

“I’ve wanted kids since I could remember. Maybe I pictured a little girl with blond hair and red eyes once or twice, though.” You grin with a roll of your eyes and a shrug. Bakugou watches you though, thinks about the stereotypical picket white fence, the big rock on your finger, a couple brats and maybe even a pet running around your front yard. He realizes he likes the image, the domesticity of it, and nods to himself as he brings you in for another kiss.

“How about I get you both? A nice ring and our own little demon spawn. How’s that sound?” Bakugou asks against your lips, pulling back to watch you frown and bat softly at his chest.

“Katsuki, don’t call our unborn baby that!” You pout, letting him pull you back in for another sweet kiss.

“Whattt? With me as their father, I’m sure they’ll be little evil shits.”

“With you as their father, I’m sure they’ll be amazingly talented, beautiful, kind hearted children. The best we could ask for.” You interject, pecking him with every compliment before tacking on, “I also play a part in their best-ness, if that wasn’t clear.”

Katsuki laughs at that, full hearted and loud, his Adam’s apple bobbing from the booming sound. It warms you, as you laugh with him and rub softly at his chest. You both fall into silence as you stare at each other, smiling like two idiots, both unknowing about the ring that sits in his pockets and the baby that rests in your belly.

“you’re cute, y’know.” katsuki mumbles against your lips.

you’re both laying in bed, on top of the covers at 2pm in the afternoon. you both had today off so you’re using it in your favourite way possible. making out with your boyfriend while talking about nothing.

you’ve got a leg over his hips and an arm hanging off his shoulder, completely attached. he’s got a large palm on your lower back, slowly drifting further and further to squish your ass.

his face is almost out of focus because he’s so close, smelling sweet and fresh from the shower with his usual blonde spikes pushed back to expose his forehead. a forehead you’ve laid many, many kisses on.

katsuki is blinking at you slowly, chest softly rising as he keeps trying to pull you even closer to him. he wants to absorb you into him, the same way you want to climb on him.

obsessed probably isn’t even the word for you both. lost within each other in the tiny confines of your bedroom, somehow it feels like you have the whole world when he’s with you.

you kiss the compliment off his lips, sucking on his bottom lip before letting go with a pop, “i know i am. it’s nice to hear you say though.”

katsuki grins, nudging his nose against yours and you can smell his minty breath. you rest your hand over his stubbled cheek, brushing a hand over it as he slots his lips with yours.

he takes his time with you, so much tongue as drinks everything you give him. he sucks on your tongue and massages it after with his own. a hand sneaks in your underwear and you moan loudly as he squeezes, your leg around his waist pulling him even closer.

when he finally pulls away he grunts like if it was anyone else you would have thought you offended him.

“what?” you smile, caging your arms around his neck to pull yourself even closer.

katsuki sighs, then grunts again, sliding his arms around your waist to lay on his back and bring you with him.

you lay on top of him as he looks up at you. his eyebrows are furrowed and eyes narrow as he whispers in a groan, “you’re makin’ me hard.”

you giggle, in love with how you’ve both got to the point of being outright with each other. you peck his lips, a peck he’s slow to return as you’re already looking at him once he pouts his lips back.

“let’s do something about it then?”

i have so many gripes about people potray this man i could rewrite martin luthers 95 fucking theses

. i don’t even know where i would start but i think one of my most frustrating takes on his character is how often he’s potrayed as emotionally unintelligent and incapable of understanding other peoples feelings. 

here’s the thing, i think largely what it comes down to when it comes to this is how bakugo is written. horikoshi insists on his development but because he isn’t the main character of the story - we largely miss on his internal dialogue and the ability to understand him. we don’t know how he changes or becomes better in many cases where we should. it was similar with sasuke with the majority of shippuden where there was no clear understanding of how a characters internal state reflected on his action for long periods of time. 

depsite bakugo being such a large part of class-1a and how important he is to the story, we rarely ever get explicit moments where we get to see how he’s changed internally. he’s most definitely changed, now at a point where he openly works with his classmates and becomes something of a leader. and we get rare moments of self-reflection - like during the scene during the provisional license arc where he tells a kid that he shouldn’t look down on others. 

bakugo is, above all else, eager to improve. the mischaracterization largely stems from the fact that people believe his actions reflect his internal map. that his behavior stems from how he feels. 

when really - bakugo full well understands his actions and their consequences. he’s not working through his ability to understand others, he’s working through how to get his actions to reflect his emotions. there’s a lot of misalignment there.

and there are so many moments  in the anime that reflect that bakugo is capable of understanding others. for example, during the rescue arc of the provisional exam - he recognizes that the couple isn’t severely injured but yells at them to save themselves. his internal registry did not link up to his external action. that’s the issue he’s working through. 

and that is precisely why bakugo didn’t side with the league of villains during the kamino ward incident. his actions of being aggressive, loud, and mean do not reflect his internal values. he is a hero through and through. 

when bakugo falls in love - he is also fighting this same behavior. the inability to be vulnerable and do what he means. fighting his own damaged ego. 

but he is aware. he’s emotionally intelligent and picks up on things so damn quickly. but people act like he’s completely incapable of showing his affection but that’s what his development is literally centered around!! 

that’s a lot of what my gripe falls around i guess. how many people write bakugou as emotionally inept when he is genuinely so self-aware and aware of the people in his surroundings and how much he shows that. even kaminari defended him and people will still write him as unable to show love. 

like with everything else - he can and will do it. but he will do it in a way that he can stomach and that might not be easy to understand first.
