“I think Fabien Baron was the art director, and I love this. I have this, actually, still, in my archives. I love this Gaultier collection. In fact, I looked at a picture of myself that someone sent me yesterday. I love everything about this show, the Indian show. I loved all the facial makeup, the rings in the nose, the ring attached to the ears, from the nose to the ear. It was a brilliant show. I taught Bridget [Hall] how to walk once, many years ago. She’s a great girl.”

The eyes have it.

"Soca" stands for "Soul and Calypso."
Jab Jabs are big in St. Vincent and Grenada and so "Jab Jab soca" is big there and has a different beat to soca on other islands.
Some other good examples of soca:

@ninjaruski it’s like calypso for young people? there’s a reason its called soca but i totally forget i just know that the “ca” is for calypso.
so it’s the kind of music that you play around carnival season basically…
It’s pretty local to the Caribbean which I personally like.
here are some good examples of soca songs that are recent too:
Gyal Wuk
Vagabond
Saltfish
**For the record, it’s a common known dialect thing amongst the islands that Saltfish is a reference to p*ssy. I *think* that became a thing in music from Might Sparrow who is an old calpysonian from the #OldDays.
Another thing in that last song is JabJab. Jab = diab = diable = the devil. Basically it’s a part of carnival lore that the enslaved people came up with to mock white people. JabJab references slaves that fell into vats of sugar cane and died and then rose from the dead covered in black tar.
I think you would be endlessly fascinated by Caribbean culture tbh if you came down here. If you ever get bored with academia join the peace corps lol.
