i just saw a tiktok video captioned "how it went when my autistic brother watched my 11 moth old" and it was like. a regular adult dude playing with a baby of crawling age. it was cute. had the caption been anything else you'd have NOT know the guy was autistic. yet everyone in the comments was being so fucking odd "oh i love how he referred to babies as people" "this makes me want to cry <3" "two pure souls in a video" ect. like you people would rather die than be normal about autistic people huh

listen i NEED to know your thoughts on rhaenyra as a mother. there has to be SOME tension and strife between her and her kids.

i mean, how laenor “died,” how quickly she remarried, the rumors around their birth, no way they’re all one big happy family.

there was no way for her to win. she loved all of those children so much and set them up for complete and total doom. this is an indictment of the society she lives in that requires people to balance the emotional bond with their child with their dynastic obligations as creating perfect heirs.

as heir, she has to have children, that’s not a choice. which to me is why she picked harwin, because at least she got to choose SOMETHING. so in contrast to alicent who i think really struggles to love her children because they were products of her husband’s rape and then also her father’s pawns from birth so they were never really hers, rhaenyra is very attached to her children because the illegitimacy makes them nothing BUT hers.

So rhaenyra has these three bastard children. and the unfortunate reality of the bastard rumors is that they don’t just hit rhaenyra, people go after her kids with them. but she does not prepare them for this and it’s BECAUSE she wants to protect them. not telling them the truth means and they just can’t prepare or try and do anything politically to get around it. plus getting lied to as a child like that just demolishes all trust between you and a parent. she takes them away to dragonstone to protect them from the rumors, which just isolates them from making any friends and allies as kids (what if luke had known some of the four storms and been friends instead of running into a houseful of strangers?) and further doesn’t prepare them to confront the reality they have to live in as clearly illegitimate kids.

there’s a war coming. rhaenyra knows this, but she wants to protect her kids. but there’s a WAR coming, and they don’t know how to fight!!! or do politics beyond their sudden introduction at the end!!! and she doesn’t teach them valyrian for some reason (not sure why, she’s a native speaker and it would’ve done a lot for the bastard thing) when they’re the heirs! her instinct to protect them also literally dooms them it’s just love eclipsing duty all over again
