Broke: Acknowledging that a character who is an objectively terrible person is also a complex and intentionally well thought out individual with different levels of nuance you can empathize with in some ways while not in others is immediately “woobifying” or “poor little meow meowifying” them.

Woke: “This character is a bad person” and “this character is still a person” are two statements that can, should and do coexist and admitting that they exhibit nuance and depth and are more than just their bad actions doesn’t immediately excuse or condone their bad actions or mean that you’re ignoring or trying to soften the canonical version of the character.

Bespoke: That’s the whole point, that’s always been the point, to be made to empathize with horrible people so you can understand that they can be anyone, that bad people can be likeable, can be interesting, can be human, are human, and it’s scary to think about all the ways they’re just like you and all the ways they’re just like everything you hate, forcing the use of critical skills in media analysis, forcing a confrontation of the duality of man.

Whatever Level is Above Bespoke: But sometimes, yeah, sure, maybe they are a poor little meow meow, what are you gonna do, get a lawyer

I'm sorry OP, but that (not Tim) is exactly what I thought it was

Junior What Got You Smiling Like That?

Junior what got you smiling like that? 🤡

We need more Joker Junior fanart because I said so, no I don’t care that it isn’t canon, I love him. Partially inspired by a reverse robins fic I read a few days back and I haven’t stopped thinking about.

Thank you for answering! And so soon too! I'll definitely take that into consideration and actually went to check on my qued stuff to see about the tags, fortunately it was used once otherwise, seems to be the lack of spacing (#marveltransformers and #Mtf[insert issue number]). Though I probably should change that before hand? I was mostly thinking ease of going through chronologically as I plan to look at other Transformers comics when I finish Marvel's stuff.

Hm, maybe switch the issue to title, I like having it there cause idk it just clicks for my mind?

Greetings : ) I wanted to ask a question about how you run a blog kinda, mostly queing. I have a side blog I made to talk about transformers comics & post about the issues & all that. But Im not sure what the right amount of qued post would be. 2x a day seem like it takes a while to get through 1 issue, but 3x seems like a lot. I only found you recently so I dont know first hand how you do it & thought Id ask, pls and thank you!

it depends on the format, really! on tkp i originally went through four archie sonic issues a day, but this ended up being way too much for me to handle. upon coming back from hiatus i changed it to one issue a day 3-5 times a week, with usually about 10-15 queued posts per issue going up in the late afternoon afternoon/early evening EST. that number of posts really isn't a big deal to most people on here. the post limit is 250 posts a day, and at the site's peak people would genuinely hit that all the time lol

i generally try not to go over 15 posts per issue not out of fear of spam, but rather just because at that point i'm showing the vast majority of the comic, and that kinda starts to blur the line between criticism/commentary and just hosting a pirated copy of the comic on tumblr. (piracy is preservation for a series like archie sonic, so i have zero moral qualms about that. i just don't need another big corporation sending me a cease and desist through tumblr lmao. one is enough for a lifetime)

oh, and as a rule of thumb, i'd be careful about spamming tags people use with comic panels and stuff. people tend not to like seeing too much of that in their tracked tags. i basically never use general sonic tags on tkp - like, i'm not tagging every issue as #Archie Sonic or every single panel with knuckles in it as #Knuckles so as to not clog up those searches for other people. but using them from time to time just to try and get more eyes on your blog can't hurt, especially early on

*airoehead = I HAVE a solution to this, you have to write down site:tumblr.com/post “ “*

Personal mostly, but thought i’d share. I also hid most of the reblogs since all I cared about was the quoted line above.

I love how the search function on this site is absolute garbage. I can look up a post word for word and I will NEVER find it

As I go through making this family tree of the gods, a diagram with name&1st godhood and sheet with various info bits, I wonder how the parent gods godhood effect the children gods godhood. In some cases you can see how one god is related to another due to similarities in godhood’s, but in others its harder. Ares for example you would purely chalk up to Hera’s anger, but if you know Ares is also the god of Civil Order and Zeus Law & Order - then there is a to-to connection.

In any-case it makes me wonder... what if we take two random gods and put them together? What would we get? Back to Ares, put him with Aphrodite and we get heavy to him or heavy to her or Harmonia which is a mix of both. But what if we put Ares with like Hermes, what then? They got godhood's in common(Ares with Brigands/Banditry and Hermes with Thievery) so would the theoretical child be a god(dess) purely of a mix of those? Or a lenient toward Ares or Hermes?

(Curious about your thoughts @odiko-ptino)

https://www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-ancient-greek-sculptures-small-penises

“Rewind to the ancient Greek world of around 400 BC, and you’ll find that large, erect penises were not considered desirable, nor were they a sign of power or strength[...]  Lustful, depraved satyrs, in particular, were rendered with very large, erect genitals, sometimes almost as tall as their torsos. According to mythology, these creatures were part-man, part-animal, and totally lacked restraint—a quality reviled by Greek high society. ‘Big penises were vulgar and outside the cultural norm, something sported by the barbarians of the world’ [...]  ‘the penis was never a badge or virility or manliness in ancient Greece as it was in other cultures,” Chrystal writes. “Potency came from the intellect needed to power man’s responsibility”

“First, as art historian Ellen Oredsson notes in discussing penis size in classical sculptures, ‘they’re flaccid. If you compare their size to most flaccid male penises, they are actually not significantly smaller than real-life penises tend to be.’ (Oredsson, 2016)[...] ‘There is the contrast between the small, non-erect penises of ideal men (heroes, gods, nude athletes etc.) and the over-size, erect penises of Satyrs (mythic half-goat-men, who are drunkards and wildly lustful) and various non-ideal men. Decrepit, elderly men, for instance, often have large penises.’ (Goldhill, 2016)

Ares Borghese

The Ares Borghese is a Roman marble statue of the imperial era (1st or 2nd century AD).

It is identifiable as Ares by the helmet and by the ankle ring given to him by his lover Aphrodite. This statue possibly preserves some features of an original work in bronze, now lost, of the 5th century BC.

The cult and representation of Ares are very rare in the ancient Greek world, especially in sculpture. It has been thought that this statue may be derived from one by Alcamenes, an Athenian sculptor who, according to Pausanias, made a statue of Ares that was erected on the Athenian agora.

The internet can be your best friend. ; >

Regarding comics with Ares... what kind *have* you read. I've mainly focused on the revamped version of him since hes more of a.. antihero I guess? At the moment I'm rereading some like Contest of Champions(2015).

I’ve actually never really read Ares in mainstream comics before! I’ve seen a handful of panels with him in them, and he’s always the same Dumb Violent Asshole so I pass.

I did wonder, in the age of Google, if DC might update his concept since anyone can now go to Wikipedia and see that Ares was the father of the Amazons… but from what I heard of the Wonder Woman movie, they dropped the ball again. That’s why I was so thrilled to see this McElroy-Marvel entry!

I haven’t seen Ares in many non-mainstream comics either, except George O’Connor and @a-gnosis.

I’d be happy with an antihero portrayal of Ares, but I’m having a hard time finding even ambiguously positive portrayals at all outside of this tiny corner of Tumblr. I’d love a rec list if you have one!

DC: When he appears it is brief. Ares mainly only appears when Wonder Woman is around, as far as I know, as such he is most prominent in her comics. I can not say much for the New Earth comics, but in regards to Prime Earth, there are two ways of it. The earlier one is where Ares is chained under Themyscira because he went mad and in his words “finds peace”. But ends up… “reborn” bond and blue eyed. He tries to be good but doesn’t know how and kinda slips into being the bad guy.

 These comics are:

Wonder Woman Reborn Volume 5 = #12, 14, 15, 21, 23, 45, and 58-62.

Wonder Woman Reborn Volume 1 = #1(Flashback)

The Older one, about 2012, he is generally a good guy except 0 and the last ones(kind of, hes not bad per say in the last ones but more like WW becomes God of War since Ares temporarily dies and he want his powers back so he battles her, not much beyond that):

Wonder Woman The New 52 Volume 4 = #0(Bad Guy), 4, 9, 13, 14, 16-20, 22, 23, 34, 46, 49-52

Marvel: More Prominent. He actually plays a bigger role in most comics he’s in. In the much older ones, he’s not a good guy but it is the Hercules comics so *shrugs*. In the later comics Ares tires of being despised because of his warmongering ways and hides on Earth and raises a son named Alexander. He eventually battles again when Alex is threatened by some foreign Gods. He and Alex return to America as Ares want Alex to have a mortal upbringing, but Iron Man and Ms Marvel force him to sign up to become part of the new Avengers team. It later becomes the Dark Avengers and Ares stays believing he is still continuing the Avengers work. He ends up dying, but is reborn by the Chaos King, Dies again but is taken from the Elysan Field by the Grandmaster for a champion battle.

My memory isn’t all that good so I am mainly showing the comics dealing with this:

Ares = #1-5

Mighty Avengers = #1-9, 10(Behind the scenes), 11, 13, 14

Secret Invasion = #8(Small)

Dark Avengers = #1-12, 15

Siege = #2(Dies)

Contest of Champions = #2-10

Overall I prefer Marvel in this one although you might find interest with Wonder Woman New 52. Although Since I do not care for Wonder Woman I only read the bits with Ares in them, PS he looks like an old man. This list is from the Wiki sites for the respective company and when it came to Marvel I follow the history section in it, but there are more comics. I believe I read them, but my memory sucks, I do play on re-reading them and may come back to you. PS With Marvel I mainly put ones where is is at least a Semi- Good Guy. Actually in the Alien Quadrilogy DVD they were given the scientific name  Internecivus raptus which wiki says “Murderous Thief”. In the Alien Omnibus Comics they were called Linguafoeda acheronsis which according to the wiki means “foul tongue from Acheron”. In the AVP Wiki they mention that they Predators call them  Kiande amedha or “Hard Meat”.

The fact that “Xenomorph” just means an alien life form and isn’t very descriptive of the Alien from Alien(s) in particular gets brought up quite a bit, so I wish the fandom picked up on their nickname the Judge Dredd crossover - Incubus. Really gets across the demonic, sexual element, and could pass as a genus name.

This person really shouldn’t project. I loved the movie, and more lifeboats may have made the situation worse. I point to Titanic: 20 years later with James Cameron

While The Film Portrays Third Class Passengers As Being Deliberately Kept Below Deck, The Actual Details

While the film portrays third class passengers as being deliberately kept below deck, the actual details tell a different story. The gates were locked the night of the sinking but they were only locked because of segregation policies, not because passengers traveling third class were viewed as lesser beings by White Star Line crew. There were, in fact, emergency exit routes for third class persons. The problem was that many passengers weren’t aware of the severity of the situation they were in until the final hour was upon them and rational thinking was replaced by panic. Even still, many third class passengers made it to the boat decks but by that time almost all the lifeboats had been lowered.
