Pokémon sprites for final fantasy 7 characters

Hello everyone! For this post I would like to share the pokemon sprites I dedicated to the characters of final fantasy 7!

The bases used here are official Pokémon sprites from 7 and 8 generation, modified using the almighty glorious Paint, old hobby of mine when Pokémon spriting was going strong, back in the day of Pokémon white/black.

The list unluckily is incomplete, there are some characters that are difficult to translate into Pokémons for me. I hope I will find the revelation soon u.u

SO! here is what I have done until now

Cloud: Lucario shiny, because colours, bipedalism, being the front face of the fourth generation... it just reminds me of Cloud, idea supported by the dual type fighting/steel that suit Cloud very well.

Sephiroth: Mewtwo, because...oh man, experiments, derivative dna from an ancient creature, a pregnant mother, lost diaries found in old mansions (Pokémon mansion/Shinra mansion), scientists, sad childhood, manipulative tactics used to lure the protagonists in certain places, psychic powers, famous ilms, being one of the front faces of the first generation, leave me be boring for once.

The fact is that Sephiroth may be represented by an amalgama of mewtwo, Mmewtwo y (hair) and Mmewtwo x (body type). Divide these three aspects, and you get the perferct version of Sephiroth's remnants, Kadaj (mewtwo), Loz (Mmewtwo x) and Yazoo /Mmewtwo y).

...It would be incredible to see a fighting type having the upper hand over a psychic type.

aerith (+ aerith singer): lilligant. I connected each other because of the golden lily, symbol of reunion in final fantasy re-project. Besides, hisui lilligant kicks ass, even that aspect is perfect for aerith-for the next time.

Who knows, one day I will also dedicate shaymin for aerith, because shaymin flower, albeit being pink, has 6 petals and represents gratitude. another good fit for aerith.

Tifa: forgive me for I'm sinning, but... Mega Lopunny, because...same outfit, basically, and Normal/fighting type, a good combo for her. I promised myself two things: to do this sprite in 8 gen style, and to dedicate Tifa a Minotaur whenever such a Pokémon will become canon in the franchise. I will leave you saying that Paldean Tauros is also very good for her.

Barret: Magmortar, because cannon arms and fire type that suits him. also, Magmortar is a Yin-Yang Pokémon, a kind of Pokémon that is always paired with another one for many reasons, including stats, symbols, lore, etc. This means, Dyne may or may not be an electivire (this doesn't mean that Marlene is an elekid, though: it depends on the mother)

Caith Sith: It should have been a meowth and a snorlax, but I ended up doing Caith as it is XD Oh well, mowth is a bipedal cat based on money and good fortune -pay day-, and it's one of the unofficial mascots of the Pokémon franchise (I mean, the Legend Himself, our glorious Team Rocket cat). Besides, Snorlaxes are as cuddly as a giant moogle, so here we are ;3

...Reeve is a black and white Persian, but it would be fun to make him a complete different cat, lemme know in the comments

Yuffie: Greninja, because ninja, because good fit, because of the existence of ash's Greninja, who is a particular Pokémon who uses a water shuriken, the same weapon of Yuffie. Materias in this case trascend space and time to always be with her.

Vincent (Rebirth, dirge,): and here we are, my sin of too many Vincent sprites, one for every form he has.

Zoroark is the only Pokémon I can use Vincent who has his shape-sfhifting (albeit illusory) powers, his color palette, resemblance with the spiky hair of Rebirth. Zoroark is also One of the front faces of the 5th generation generation, together with Lucario for the 4t hand Mewtwo for the first. With these three Pokémon I created an imperfect triangle Psychic-Fighting-Dark:

Psychic > fighting: Sephiroth having a huge power over Cloud

Fighting > Dark: Literally it happens in Rebirth, but also

Dark immune to psychic: Vincent being immune to Sephiroth manipulation tactics. To be truly honest, this never happened, but who knows, maybe we will discover something for the next game.

Galian (Og): Still Zoroark but with horns. Being an old sprite, I should make another one with another Pokémon. Next time, probably.

Death Gigas: Electivire, because electric type, red eyes and body type.

...The fact that there is a Magmortar in this list IS casual, but it can create interesting connections between characters if wish it for.

Hellmasker: Darkrai. One word: nightmares. Nightmares are both the central theme of Darkrai, the pitch-black Pokémon who induces his victims into an endless dreams, tortured by nightmares, and one of the core themes of Vincent himself back in the og, expressed by Hellmasker's move "Nightmare", who induces a lot of status effects to his victims, including, you guessed it, sleep. (let's not talk about the fact that both decided to isolate themselves in places far from other living beings in order not to hurt them and both are associated with a Pokémon and a person who have in common the Crescent moon as a symbol. There's...there's a lot to talk about)

Chaos (og): Giratina. Indisputed Guardian of the Distortion World, who has...an eerie resemblance to Nero's kingdom of darkness in Dirge of Cerberus. Giratina represents antimatter and the gaseous form of materia, but...let's be honest, he's also the Devil of the Pokémon Mithology, especially if paired with the creation god arceus.

So, themes and colors and distorted dimensions not bound by space and time.

Chaos (Dirge): Yveltal. Change of design > change of Pokémon, but also, I can't decide what is better for Chaos because even Yveltal is a great candidate for him. Yveltal represents death and destruction in the Pokémon world, famous for absorbing the life force of living beings (Nero's...soul consumption, basically) when it's dying in order to cocoon and awaken one day once more.

For Chaos I basically can't decide between the Devil Pokémon and the Destruction Pokémon, so for now I will use both. Who knows if Re-3 will give me an answer

Galian Beast (Rebirth)

a white zoroark with black hair. I don't have much to say, just to say that I miss only a black hisui Zoroark to complete the circle for the ever crisis world.

From the list I miss only Nanaki and Cid:

Nanaki is an arcanine because it's the most resembling Pokémon to him, despite the charmender's tail. I will update this list as soon as I make Nanaki.

Cid...oh man, after all these years I still haven't decided a fitting Pokémon for him, it maddens me. Let me know what do you think would suit him best, but I will also make a survey in the future. I'm curious to know what the fanbase thinks about the perfect Pokémon match for Cid.
