A rant about exercise

Females tend to have strong lower bodies and males tend to have strong upper bodies. That's the way our bodies are built. Our bones are shaped that way.

If you want to do full-body tasks well, you have to exercise your whole body equally. For someone like me, that means push-ups. They're not difficult; though I have to force myself to continue, I am healthy and capable.

I ran across a male someone recently that I watched do an Aikido technique with the footwork completely wrong. I called him on it, and he groaned as if to say, 'silly girl' and attempted to throw me without using his lower body at all. I humored him and moved.

Now, I am not a very large person. It wouldn't be hard for him to  pick me up and toss me away, and yet when he had to throw me he cheated to make it less difficult. This is the rough equivalent, to me, of sissy push-ups. I have to work my whole body in Aikido, and I understand that I'll have to do some difficult things for me. Why doesn't he?

If you want to pull off this whole "strong" thing, don't cut corners for the express purpose of sloth. It makes no sense.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to do at least ten twenty more reps of proper push-ups.

Guitar

So after geeking out with everyone I could find over the Puppets/Weeks/Bustello show on Tuesday, I realized how much I love music for someone that can't play it. Also, my sister said that our pagan, homeschooled, queer upbringing was too weird to not start a band. There's space in my room for a guitar, and I have a rudimentary understanding of string instruments. I talked to my mom about it, and it looks like I could be learning guitar soon. I could be terrible, but really don't care. Wish me luck.

Note: I'm not doing this for the girls. If I wanted that, I would have joined a school's theater group already.  My moral standards are too ridiculously high.
