to say reo was terrified would be an understatement.

he had checked his phone in the middle of practice casually, planning to ask how your day was going, when he saw it. the notification that caused his eyes to widen and his heart to drop, fingers tightening around his phone.

a notification from his bank, informing him that the card he had given you almost years ago had been used.

of course, you using it was the purpose of you having it, but reo practically had to force you to accept it. you have never used it once since you had acquired it, no matter how much reo begged you to, and you only laughed dismissively one time when he asked you why you never used it, telling him that having it was even too much.

so despite how reo would have loved to be delighted at you finally spending his money, he knew something was up. his stomach twisted as he opened your chat, hesitantly typing out a few messages yet erasing every single one before pressing send, chewing on his bottom lip anxiously.

nagi, who sat beside him, peered into his screen. “what’s up with you?”

“[y/n] used their card.”

“woah.” nagi blinked. “are they dying?”

“why would you say that?” reo cried out, the hold on his phone tightening. nagi yawned, taking another look at reo’s home screen when he went to double-check the bank notification, his eyes landing on his wallpaper, a picture of the three of you, before moving check the amount taken.

“that’s… not much.”

“makes it even more nerve wracking,” reo leaned over, his elbow digging into his head as he massaged his temples, truely distressed. “they could easily afford that, why would they buy it? nagi, i think i’m going to pass out.”

“that would be such a hassle for me— hey, don’t give me that look, i’m your treasure, reo.”

“i’ll shove you inside a treasure box.” reo mumbled, then quickly shoved his phone towards nagi, who furrowed his eyebrows just the slightest in confusion. reo waved his hands around vaguely. “call them!”

nagi decided not to question what to even say, blankly pressing your contact name. after the second ring, nagi glanced up blankly, frowning. “they’re dead. that’s such a pain, i liked playing games with them—“

“stop saying they’re dead,” reo mumbled, staring blankly ahead before he covered his face in dread. “oh my god, are they? i should have appreciated them when i—“

“glad to know you both have my funeral covered.” your voice rang out bluntly, turning both boys towards the on-speaker phone. nagi’s lips twitched up just the slightest, and reo’s eyes widened in horror. “perks of having a rich boyfriend, i guess. is this because i used the card?”

“what? no!” reo laughed, tone painfully strained. nagi ignored the urge to roll his eyes as he yawned.

“yeah, freaked him out.”

“treasure box, nagi,” the hier hissed quietly. you sighed from the other line.

“it’s not like i wanted to use it,” you stated. “i mixed it up with mine and only realized after paying. i already sent you the money back, though, so you should be getting the—“

“what?” reo shut speaker, pressing the phone against his ear immediately with a frown. “why would you do that? i told you to buy everything with it, [y/n], and you pay me back the price of a coffee?”

“reo, darling—“

“don’t darling me!” he scolded. “i’m going to send you back this money, and if you try to send it back again, i will not kiss you a week for every attempt.”

“low.”

“i can go lower.” he stated bluntly. “don’t pay me back and spend my money more.”

“fuck no.”

“[y/n]!”

(the following argument proceeded to last for about twenty minutes, before he unfortunately won by threatening your biting-him-randomly privileges.)

And in this one too, Mahito leaves the tower and it crumbles behind him, but he can still remember? In this one, he carries the memento with him, not unlike Chihiro and her charmed hair-tie, but it's framed in this kind way - 'You're not supposed to remember, and you must forget, but you can carry it with you for a while yet' and this gentleness absolutely fucking ruins me.
